270 Tasting Notes
Wow, it’s been a while since I’ve been on here. My cupboard is down to about 18 teas aside from a sachet sampler I got as a gift from a friend. I am hard-core sipping down because most of my teas were old and need new refills soon so… why not. Plus, I’m down-sizing and figuring out which are absolute staples since I may be moving in the next year or two. Since that is the case, I want to minimize the craziness despite life being chaotic lately. TLDR: Life is a mess, but at least the cupboard isn’t.
On to the tea… despite loving the smell of it, Hot Cinnamon Spice is not a tea that I gravitate towards very often. In the past, I didn’t like it very much and getting the chance to revisit it in a sample… its still a love hate relationship. I like the tea for the first few sips, but there’s a strange sweetness that creeps in that is almost nauseating and I can’t keep drinking it. Although, I did find that it is nice mixed in with espresso or as a latte sooo…. by itself I give it a 70, with an addition… 85?
Flavors: Cardamom, Cinnamon, Clove, Syrupy
Well, thought I would try this waiting to get my oil change this morning. Turns out that it wasn’t a good idea. Its not a pleasant sour like from hibiscus heavy blends, its… spoiled sour really. It’s a shame, I usually enjoy Bigelow’s teas.
Flavors: Acidic, Alcohol, Biting, Cinnamon, Soap, Sour
I really enjoy this tea, it’s fruity with a hit of syrup and marzipan. It’s light and sweet and refreshing. I think this will be a rebuy eventually… just have a sample for now.
Flavors: Cherry, Light, Marzipan, Strawberry, Syrupy
I… don’t like this. I’m considering composting or gifting because I don’t want to sip it down. It’s very chemically and I’m just… not interested.
Flavors: Chemical, Syrupy
I got a 4oz bag of this when I was in Albany in the spring. Most of their teas were only sold in 4oz bags in-store so I ended up with a ton of this. It’s not my favorite, I’m still stuck with about 3 oz of this so… it’s definitely a sip down for me. I’m working through what I have from TWK before I make an order because I love a few of their teas just.. not this one. The combination of coconut and almond tastes soapy? And not in a good way like rosy teas do if that makes sense?
Flavors: Alfalfa, Almond, Coconut, Paper, Soap
This blend is a new seasonal blend from Murchies and I have to say… its a bit different than I thought. That being said, I still enjoy it a lot! I was expecting a lot of coconut flavor like the coconut cream but the marzipan flavor really takes over on this one which surprised me a little given the coconut flavor in their other blends. A definite rebuy to stock up for after the holidays are over!
Flavors: Alcohol, Almond, Marzipan, Rum
NEW MURCHIES HALL ALERT!!! (also my cupboard is finally up to date as of 10/22/24)
I was a bit hesitant with this based on some notes I’d read but this to me smells and tastes just like eggnog. I really think that this would be great as a latte and even better sweetened! I really like this one… perhaps a new favorite caffeine free blend?
Flavors: Brown Sugar, Cream, Creamy, Eggnog, Honey, Milk, Rooibos, Spices, Vanilla
This blend is pretty good, I didn’t get much of anything flavor wise until I sweetened it. I found it best sweetened with milk but I don’t think I’m going to repurchase it again. This is going in the sipdown bin.
Found a tiny bit of this one in my work bag. I honestly don’t remember trying it but it looks like the old subscription packaging (I really miss it). I really liked this blend, the fennel is really nice. It’s best with a splash of milk in my humble opinion but I also liked it plain. Wish I had more than just one cups worth… will be looking for more.
I only drink this one as a guilty pleasure latte ha ha, otherwise it’s just too sweet for me.
I wonder what it is about it that makes it so sweet… artificial flavoring… idk. I do want to find more… spicy fall blends just not necessarily this one.
I feel the same way about Good Earth’s sweet and spicy cinnamon version—good stuff, but could stand to be toned down.
My son is cold steeping a lot of tea and uses a ton of this, so I just ordered a one pound bag for him while they are donating 20 per cent to the profits to build a school for tea workers children in Mozambique. It is too spicy for me, but I have lots of friends and family who love it!
Wow that is amazing @ashmanra! Are they doing that for all teas or just Hot Cinnamon Spice?
Just HCS, but it is their number one selling tea so I expect they will reach their goal quickly!
