A friend of mine gave me a sample a couple of years back…then subsequently bought it for me as a gift and since then I got another bag. I think milk oolong will be a permanent cupboard item. This is the only milk oolong I have tried so I haven’t rated it. If I were to rate it according to how much i like it; it would probably get at least 90 :) . It’s a very nice creamy vanilla-y oolong.

Tasted my new batch of this last evening. First impression a little smokey…but not quite as fragrant as the last batch I bought (a couple of years ago) but flavour is still very nice! Leaves unfurled to full huge leaves. Mmm a darker oolong to go with the greener ones I got as gifts from family going on trips to China / HK :)

I went to the Aroma Tea House to pick up my “Monkey Picked” Tieguanyin and got treated to an awesome tea tasting there with this Wu Yi Rock Tea! I have had a sample of this type of tea from a friend before and mentioned that I was interested in getting some to try. She made the tea ’’Gongfu" style in a gaiwan? I think (forgive my lack of tea knowledge—I am still learning!) We (another customer and I) tasted three steepings of the tea! I walked out with 100g of each tea! Thank goodness another customer was waiting otherwise I might of ended up with more teas!!
This Wu Yi Rock tea has a lovely roasted, smokey flavour and aroma.

I’ve been drinking all sorts of different teas today. I am a little under the weather so I have been trying to keep up my fluid intake to help clear some of the congestion. Anyways I have been trying anything with coconut in it lately and this was a flavour that I decided to get a tin of. I had a couple of cups of this in the morning with honey and a bit of milk :)

I love many different types of oolongs. This was the favourite of the three types I had bought from this tea shop in Vancouver a while back. The shop was recommended to me by a coworker who told me the owners that run this shop have a great selection of Chinese type teas and are very knowledgable and fair. The lady there spent a good half hour explaining the different teas to my friend and I (two tea novices) and helped us select some teas based on what we said we liked or wanted to try. I have just finished the last of this last night so I think a visit to this store is in order!

Ok I have had this tea a few times now and like some others find the tea weak. The cinnamon seems to be the only thing I am tasting, so I added some black tea leaves to the mix and I like it better:) Is it just me or are some of DT tea blends weak on the “tea” tasting part of the brew?

I agree that some of DT blends are lacking in tea strength. I was disappointed with this tea also.

I bought the large mug specifically for Rooibos teas or herbals where you can leave the leaves brewing for an extended period of time. I love that the filter strains the Rooibos when I am drinking it. I have never had any problem with the rooibos passing through the filter. I have tried brewing the tea the alternate way (by putting it in the filter and tipping it upside down after the required cooling period) and have gotten occasional leaks. I contacted the company and they have been very helpful with hints etc and even offered to send me a new seal! I am still not sold on the inverting method of brewing the tea in this mug—by the time the hot water cools to the point that i can invert it my black tea doesn’t seem to brew nicely; however it is great for brewing my rooibos. I use the mug everyday!

Hmm where are the white silver needles? Anyways I have brewed a cup as is a few days ago, and although the tea wasn’t bad; it was fruity, caramelly-honey, coconutty mix of flavours, I wanted more white tea! So today I added a bit of silver needles white tea I happened to have on hand from a tiny Chinese tea shop here in Vancouver called Aroma tea house. This tea is a good fruity sweet tea probably because of the mulberries. I liked the addition of more tea leaves better than when I had it straight. Although I like the tea…due to cost (for how much I like it), I will probably not add this to my regular stash of teas.

This was a tea flavour that was recommended to me by the owner of Tea Time. I got a sample of this from him when I went into the shop because I told him I was looking for different rooibos teas. I wasn’t sure if I would like it because I am not a fan of marzipan…but I like almond. I brewed the sample at home…he gave me a generous amount so all four of us in the family got to have a cup. The boys were asking for more the next day! I have had it a few times now and amazingly it smells exactly like marzipan! I definitely taste the almond in it. This one is going to be a keeper in our house!

I have been trying a bunch of different Rooibos’ in a quest to get more decaf teas to choose from. I’ve had this quite a few times now and I love the flavour and scent. It comes off as a floral pear flavour. Rooibos hasn’t been my favourite type of tea but with my new Libre tea mug I have been drinking a lot of this lately. Will have to try it iced once the weather gets hotter!

I am pretty new to trying different types of loose leaf teas. Growing up we only ever had Chinese restaurant tea or bagged orange pekoe. Later on I tried genmai cha at the Japanese restaurants and added that permanently to my tea cupboard.

So far, I like oolongs and black. Most often I drink straight teas but I do like some flavoured ones as long as they don’t taste fakey or chemically. I would like to try more greens, whites and more Rooibos’ as well as anything that doesn’t have caffeine in it to add to my cupboard.

An attempt at a rating system:
90-100 worthy of being permanently stocked in my cupboard
80-89 great tea would love to have in my tea cupboard but probably in smaller quantities
70-79 very nice tea but I don’t necessarily have to have it
60-69 will drink it but not choose to stock it
50-59 prefer not to drink it unless it is all I have
<50 total miss for my tastes
