Golden Monkey from Adagio Teas
95

I needed a strong cup of something to start the day, and this hit the spot!

Pumpkin Spice from Adagio Teas
40

I only have this tea because Adagio said you’d get 4 oz with an order. I made an order, and was surprised by the fun holiday-themed tin in came in. If only I liked the tea as much!

I’ve tried it straight, with sweetener, and with sugar and soymilk. I like it more the less stuff I add to it. It’s not very pumpkiny and it’s not very pumpkin pie spicy. It reminds me of vegan alternatives to regular foods. If you go in thinking it should taste like the original, you’ll be disappointed. If you go in thinking it’s something new, you might find something in it you like. When I drink this not expecting pumpkin spice, it’s okay. And that will get me through the tin.

Earl Grey Black Tea from Celestial Seasonings
55

I was so surprised that CS made an earl grey I had to try it! And then it was just what you’d expect.

Candy Apple from Adagio Teas
80

I got a sample bag of this in my most recent tea order. I wasn’t sure I’d like something so flavored, but then I loved it! The smell was great, the taste was fun, and I found myself wishing for more. Very clever, Adagio… very clever.

Chocolate Chai from Adagio Teas
70

I had a cup of this at a baby shower over the weekend. It was less chocolatey than I would have expected, given the name, but still quite good. I bet with creamer and sugar it’d be even better!

Chamomile Lemon Myrtle from Numi Organic Tea
31
Karigane from Mighty Leaf Tea
60

I finally got around to another cup of this, and this time brewed it strongly based on my last tasting note. This cuppa wasn’t watery, it was quite definitely a green tea with a slightly earthy taste. I liked it!

White Persian Melon from Golden Moon Tea
70

Another good cup. Fruity, no need for sweetener. A nice last cup for the afternoon before heading out into the hot.

Organic Breakfast Tea from Shangri-La Tea
85

Again, bought for the cold conference. This makes for a surprisingly good cup of black tea. I always have low hopes for bagged, but this is quite good. I’d recommend it if you’re traveling and don’t want to take all sorts of tea paraphernalia.

Decadent Coconut Chocolate Tea from Shangri-La Tea Co.
95

You guys! This is amazing tea. It’s bagged. It’s at the grocery. It’s still totally awesome. I was going to a conference where I knew it’d be cold all the time, and I knew they’d have hot water in one of the main rooms I’d be in, so I picked up a few bagged teas to take with me. This was an excellent choice. I think it’d probably be even better with sugar and milk. Decadent indeed.

Moroccan Mint from Golden Moon Tea
75

I’m kinda here you guys! Just not posting with the frequency with which I once did. I did manage to make a cup of this (with pictures!!) this morning, and it was pretty good. I typically don’t love Moraccan Mint teas, but this one was actually quite good for me. I added a bit of sugar in the raw, and the balance of tea and mint was good.

The 75 this gets? It turns out my rating system isn’t perfect for me. 100 is the perfect cuppa- the ones that will always be in my tea cupboard. It’s the “best in class” rating for each type of tea. It fails me because I’m not always going to have Moraccan Mint in my my cupboard, but if I did, it would be Golden Moon’s.

Lady Londonderry from Tealuxe

When it gets hot, I start craving this cup. So here we go!

Profile

Bio

a tea drinking geek librarian

I’ve been into tea, at some level, since college with a first tin of loose tea brought back by my parents from Oxford. My love of tea increased with a visit to Boston and a chance cup at Tealuxe. Since then I’ve only gotten more interested in tea and have developed more of an appreciation for it.

I went on a (near) tea fast in 2009 when I was pregnant, and am only now really reintroducing tea at the levels I was drinking it before. I’ve lost some of my tasting edge, but that just gives me an excuse to drink even more. :)

tea rating guide
(updated 12/2010)

100: a perfect cuppa. these are the teas I’ll keep in my cupboard and tend to be one per type of tea.

90-99: will definitely get more of this tea

80-89: likely to get more and perhaps it will become a favorite with time

70-79: very good, depending on my mood or the season

60-69: wouldn’t actively try to get this tea, but also wouldn’t avoid it in a tea shop or restaurant

50-59: run-of-the-mill tea for me

40-49: decent, would hit the spot in some moods, but probably wouldn’t purchase it for my cupboard

30-39: okay, will try again, maybe

20-29: meh. I’d try this tea again if no other were available

10-19: drinkable, but a forced cup

0-9: didn’t even finish the cup
