Herbal tisane of the evening here, taking care of myself big time includes plenty of rest and relaxation!

You know, I think I like the regular Sleepytime better than this, the vanilla doesn’t do too much aside from providing this with a slightly strange aroma and off flavor. I have to say I am finding it kind of oooky.

Good night, all!

I’m reviewing this one for Mike the founder of ’It’s All About the Leaf’ tea blog (http://www.itsallabouttheleaf.com/).

I grew up drinking Celestial Seasonings teas and it was (and still is) a staple in my mom’s cupboard; but for some reason I never got around to trying this particular one even though ‘Sleepytime’ is one of the standard CS blends. For once CS seems to have made a herbal tea without hibiscus being involved (thankfully). Out of the box it smells quite herbal with a strong odor of mint. More in-depth sniffing revealed a sweet vanilla-y odor lurking in the background.

There’s not really a whole lot of vanilla that I can taste in the tea itself and I think that’s partially due to the fact that the mint and chamomile are such strong, aromatic herbs that they drown out any subtleties in this tea.

Backlogging. Sunday late at night.
My mom has a box of Sleepytime Vanilla from her many purchases from when she visited the Celestial Seasoning’s plant in Denver, CO while vacationing and visiting my sister Kath’s ex-fiance. This is not the first time I’ve had this herbal at her place. I like it pretty well for a non-caffeinated bagged herbal before bed. Better than plain Sleepytime, if my memory of it is correct. The vanilla mutes the flavors into a better mix.

So many swaps to work on! Yay! Can’t wait share the tea love. :)

Just like Sleepytime but a little more mellow. Nothing special but I do love my cup of “something with chamomile before bed”.

I think I might like the regular sleepytime better, but this is doing the trick tonight. I don’t buy a lot of boxed grocery store teas (yes, yes, call me a snob), but I like to keep a box of sleepytime tea in the house.

I really liked this tea, exactly for the reason that the vanilla muted the overwhelming flowery-ness of the original. I like fruity teas, but not really floral teas. And this was no longer overwhelmingly floral. It was just a nice mellow tea for sipping as I went to bed. Yum.

I have a confession. I consider myself an herbal tea fan. Yet, I hate chamomile.

And a lot of teas, especially ones designed to soothe and relax, like to focus on chamomile. So I used to convince myself (on those nights where I’ve had a horrible long day and want a nice, mellow cup of tea to help me relax) that maybe the chamomile won’t be so bad this time. So I brew, and I relax, and I sip. And then I go and calmly dump the cup out and wonder why it’s still on my shelf of tea. Blech.

This cycle continued until I found Sleepytime Vanilla. This is an herbal tea, designed to relax you. And it has chamomile in it. And I actually like it. The blend of mint and vanilla with the chamomile mellows the flavor, and enhances the brew. As you sip, you’re first hit by the mint and chamomile, pleasantly combined, then the vanilla shows up with a creamy aftertaste. The flavors play off each other, and remove whatever it is that consistently makes me go BLEA.

These days, when I’ve had a horrible long day and want to relax, this tea is the one that finds its way into my cup. I sip contentedly, and actually gain that relaxation I am so craving.

I’m making a huge mistake by drinking this at my desk today. I really love this tea, but work may not be the best place to drink it.

I saw this on the shelf at the store and thought why not. I had no idea of the positive outcome it would have for my husband and myself. My husband has had bone cancer since he was 24, yes 24 and he had had to rely on various medications to help him sleep. Well not anymore. He took one sip of MY tea and said “thanks”. I just made another cup. Every night since that first tasting my husband drinks the Sleepytime Vanilla tea to help him sleep solid sleep, instead of medications that would only give a couple of hours of sleep at a time. The body heals while you sleep and the wonderful blends of chamomile, lemon grass, vanilla, and other awesome flavors has changed my husbands life and mine. Thanks for the best tea I ever had thus far. We both swear by this tea as an awesome suppplement to sleep and we steep it by the pot.

I like Sleepytime tea, mainly for the memories of when I had it has a child. The idea of the mint flavor being calmed by an addition of vanilla sounded VERY appealing! The first few sips were quite good! Sweet vanilla with the traditional Sleepytime scent in the background. As I got through the cup, I started to get a strange almost rubber flavor? I’ll assume that it was the vanilla flavor mixing with the mint or chamomile. I might give this one another try to see if maybe it was just a bad cup. Thank you Brandy for a few of these bags to sample!

I had a stomach ache tonight and decided some chamomile tea would help. I’m coming around to this cup of tea. The flavor is still a little bit strange, but I like the smoothness. It’s almost “fluffy” — not in texture so much.. but just in presence. I also like how the vanilla calms the spearmint since I wasn’t crazy about that note in the original Sleepytime blend. So soothing, I may have a second cup tonight.

When Mom first brought this tea home, I thought “these flavour combinations can’t work.” Then I tried a mug, with a drizzle of honey. Oh, it works. (“It’s twue!”) It hasd a great smell, a lively colour and goes well with food or just by itself. A nice tea to drink while reading.

I LOVE this tea! I just tried it for the first time and just steeped it for four minutes, added a teaspoon of honey and let it cool. It smells DELICIOUS, like soft vanilla (rather than harsh like vanilla extract) and I found once it had cooled a decent amount (about 10 minutes) I could taste all the flavors better.

Essentially, it just tastes like chamomile, but the hint of vanilla is there. It’s light, but not too light to where you can’t taste it. This is definitely a good tea to drink while curling up with a book, as someone said before. I’ll definitely be keeping it on hand from now on!

I keep drinking this at night and then forgetting to review it, so I’m backlogging a bit… I just moved to my own place and have started drinking tea at night again (not sure why I stopped, but I’ve been out of the habit for years, and I also generally hate herbal teas so it wasn’t a terrible loss overall). I realized that I barely had any non-caffeinated blends, so when I saw this at the store, I thought it would be a good candidate. I really don’t love the regular Sleepytime blend, so I was pretty skeptical about the vanilla version, but this is pretty awesome! The vanilla note hides the lemongrass and it’s a pretty pleasant blend. I don’t like to steep it too long or it gets a bit overpowering, but overall it’s a really nice before-bed cup of “tea”!

Smells like mint and vanilla. I taste the chamomile and mint equally, with the vanilla rounding it out and turning this into something delicious. And while you can taste the chamomile, this tea isn’t flowery at all. Definitely a good tea to have. And here’s hoping that it soothes me into dreamland (especially after the caffeine I’ve had today).

My last pot of the evening…so glad that my conference is in town this week!! It means I get to sleep in a smidge, and that I didn’t have to abandon Chloe (what, has nobody else named their Breville?), and can have delicious tea before I go to the morning sessions. Granted, I’ll probably not get to have any once I’m there, but at least I’ll have a few really good morning cups!!

Going to go to bed early tonight…big pot o’ this before I head that way. I have noticed I sleep better when I drink chamomile at night. This blend is pretty good…but I’ll probably be investing in a different one rather than pick it up again.

I’m still feeling a bit off, so I’ve brewed up a pot of this and will be heading to bed shortly to hopefully sleep off whatever bug I’ve caught. Breathing in the mint smell is very soothing, and I’m hoping the chamomile will help sleep come quick. I’ve got a busy week ahead of me, and I don’t want to be sick for it.

My last pot of this blend. It’s definitely grown on me since I first bought it. I’ll probably end up revisiting it in the future, but for now, I’ll try a few different things.

Ah, now that’s more like it! A big cup o’ chamomile to soothe me to sleep!

Just kind of bland. I’ve never had the original Sleepytime (I’m more of a Tension Tamer girl, myself), so I don’t know how this compares. The vanilla is very subtle; more of a creamy aftertaste than anything else.

I got this tea when I was at the grocery store on a whim. And I’m glad I did! A few months later I had problems getting a good night sleep due to stress at work. I drank this tea and I was able to sleep well to feel well rested the next day!

As for the taste, I get a hint to a good deal of vanilla. Which isn’t a bad thing. But overall the taste is very soothing and calming. Perfect if you plan to drink this tea to help you relax and/or sleep.

I like this quite a bit better than regular Sleepytime, the vanilla (for me) helps ease off that chamomile taste that I hate so much. I steep mine for an undecided amount of time that equals out to ‘whenever I get back to it’. I call it done when its a nice darkish honey color.

Not one of the ones I drink terribly often but there’s something really comforting about it to me.

Perfect tea for right before I go to bed. It calms and soothes the nerves without being overbearing :)

A pleasant enough alternative to the original Sleepytime of my childhood. Like many others have already mentioned, Sleepytime is like an old, well-loved security blanket. Sleepytime Vanilla makes me feel like somebody took my blanky, sloshed it around in some vanilla-flavored washing machine, and handed it back to me, swearing it was better now that it was all clean.

I didn’t find the vanilla scent off-putting, but it made me suspicious. Once I snuggled closer (and added a teaspoon of organic honey)… yeah, it’s my old blanky, but it doesn’t taste like it had been dragged through the spearmint field and left to bake in the sun in the same, familiar way. Is this a good thing? A bad thing?

Maybe I’ll just rub the satin edging between my fingers awhile longer and see if I can make friends with a new-ish blanky. Change isn’t always bad, but as soon as Mom isn’t looking, I’m gonna run off to the spearmint field.

This is super amazing. I love normal sleepytime, but this vanilla blend is scrumptious. :)

This one is not one of mine, but I’m adding it here anyway as I end up making this quite often for my husband. It’s pretty much exactly like the regular Sleepytime tea, only with a touch of vanilla. My husband likes them both equally. Strong scent of spearmint and chamomille, with the vanilla overtones. Not my cup of tea, but for the herbal tea drinker it’s a decent choice.

This is a perfect ending to a long day of class, meetings, and homework. It has a nice vanilla flavor that isn’t too overpowering, as well as a sweet aroma. I can pick up the notes of chamomile as well as the spearmint along with the vanilla flavor. It puts me in the perfect sleepytime mood!
