Blue Moon

Black Tea by Red Leaf Tea

The Blue Moon Tea is a very rare tea from Europe that is made primarily of black tea with pieces of safflower, marigolds and blue mallow blossoms. The tea is characterized by a full-bodied flavor with a hint of sweetness from the Marigold. The safflower and the blue mallow blossoms contributed to the color of this fragrant tea.

Ingredients: Black tea, safflower, marigolds, blue mallow blossoms.

It’s an extraordinarily pretty tea shot through with ribbons of yellow, red, and blue petals. The tea smells sweet like berries. The liquor is reddish like good brandy (but not as dark as brandy). The taste is like sweet black tea flavored lightly with strawberries.

Last cup of the work day (a long one at that.) I find this an interesting and different tea. In the dry it is almost gorgeous with colored ribbons weaving in and out of the black leaves. The fragrance is quite fruity to my surprise, as I was expecting floral scent. I agree with other reviewers, apple does seem to be a major flavor but the black tea is there and other more subtle flavors. Some berry, maybe a touch of vanilla. It is very enjoyable and has held the full flavors through a cooling down (I got distracted during the first steep.)
The second cup won’t have time to cool as I am going to give it my full attention after this long day. A hearty thanks to QuiltGuppy for another new tea experience.

Ok, I will just say it. I love this tea. There. Done.
Berry, slightly floral, no perfume, rich golden color, and solid black tea.

Yummy. This is a pretty tasty black tea. Sweet and a faintly fruity flavour. I did enjoy it, but no one flavour really stood out to me.

This one wasn’t a home run for me. I was exhausted last night when I made a cup, and my only thought was “….well, it does taste kind of blue…”

I will definitely try it again, maybe I just missed something. But as it stands right now, this tea was just generic, nothing special, and not a rebuy for me.

Edit: Although I will forever get “Blue Moon of Kentucky” stuck in my head when this tea is mentioned, which is enough for me to keep it around!

Very unique tea. The only added flavorings are flower petals, but I invariably smell apples on both the leaves and the brew, and usually taste a hint a cream. Definitely something to sip and savor, no milk or sugar needed.

Just finished my tin of this, and I definitely need to buy some more. For one thing, it’s a black tea that is smooth and sweet enough to drink plain. It never even occurs to me to add milk or sugar after taking a sip. The character changes on me a little every time I drink it; usually I get apples, sometimes berries, but today I’m getting a very creamy vanilla flavor and something tart, like tropical fruit.

I generally get a second steep that is weaker but still very much worth drinking. At $2.18/oz (for the large tin) this might need to be a staple in my cupboard.

I really adore this tea. The dry leaves smell almost overpoweringly fruity, and are very pretty with the yellow, red, and blue flowers. The liqueur is a bright orange-gold, and smells more like apples than any other fruit. Actually, if you made hot apple cider and tossed a few strawberries or currants in the pot, I think this is how it would smell. The taste: a sweet, light, fruity black tea. But then I always get this deliciously creamy aftertaste, and that gets a bit stronger as it cools.

Must buy more. Someday. When I’m allowed to buy tea again :(
