From The Devotea

A rich Assam black tea that you will want to drink everyday. This IS Assam to us. At Devotea HQ, we drink this a lot!

Estate: Halmari
Region: Assam, India
Class: GTGFBOP1
Flush: 2nd Flush 2013
Our Category: Special Assam

Why we selected this tea: First class Assam taste. Makes a mockery out of the poorly-flavoured Assam teabags that pop up on supermarket shelves. This is a classic for the true black tea fan. Incredibly special, but won’t scare the plain tea drinkers in your circle.

Making a pot (start with our method and adjust to suit your taste): 1 teaspoon of tea per 125ml of water. Use boiling water and steep for three minutes.

A lovely Assam tea that I served to my friend Willem, the Bass player. He’s a big guy, a little gruff looking if you don’t know him, but once you do know him you’ll find that he is a teddy bear, AND an excellent musician! He’s been playing jazz most of his life, & is amazing. Of course, he also studied classical, & although bass IS his instrument, he occasionally pulls out a cello, a Bass Ukulele (who knew there was such a thing?), & can also play a few other things. He plays all over town with pretty much everyone that plays jazz in St. Louis, & although we don’t get to play together much, we’ve both agreed we want to book more gigs together. His wife gave me a big hug the first time we played a gig & whispered in my ear, “Don’t tell Willem I told you, but it’s always been his fantasy to play jazz in a trio with a harpist”.

Yet another dream to come true! Now we need someone on percussion.

mrmopar

I volunteer KS he is a drummer.

Robert Godden

I am also a bass player. There are a lot of us around.

K S

No, no, KS plays guitar. Not well but I play.

Sil knows I’m experimenting with unflavoured teas, so she’s been super helpful sending me tons of teas to experiment with. Thank you! :D (219)

This was a nice assam – slightly malty, with a little bit of tobacco – but oh, so smooth. I didn’t even need to add milk or anything to it! I need to drink a few more of my loose samples down, and then it’s time to dive into my Lord Petersham bag!

this was a lovely assam from the devotea! There is no bitterness to this..just a smooth cup of really nice black tea. It makes me want to try even more of the black teas from the devotea, so i’m lucky that terri sent me a few others to try! ):

Sami Kelsh

Ooh, nom. I love a really nice Assam!

Sil

it won’t replace some of my other favourites but i’d rotate it in to my cupboard from time to time :)

Robert Godden

Thanks for the review, Yes, that one is nice and gentle. I really believe the Mokabari East, the other Assam we carry, is even better! I do like my Assams quite robust.
