99 Tasting Notes
I only have the one sachet of this tea. I bought the tin for a friend who loves Alice in wonderland. It was for a gift for her baby shower (I also got her a fancy hardcover copy of Alice & Through the Looking Glass.) She told me it tasted “lightly fruity, with a sweetness like angel food cake.” Since she loved it so much, she gave me a sachet to try.
I did NOT like this one at all! I don’t know what I did wrong but it smells like green beans. It even tasted like green beans. blagh. I think I’ve made it through five sips? The mug is staring at me, taunting. “Maybe I’ll taste delicious now Kara!!!” So I sip again and realize it lied. NOPE. Still green beans. weird is all I can say.
I used one sachet for 8oz
ETA: I love that green beans comes up underneath the flavor suggestions ;D
Flavors: Green Beans
Why do I like this so much?! It really does hit the spot for a sweet treat. For whatever reason I have been really craving this tea. I keep bringing it with me places, but then I always go “well it’s not really tea…” and reach for something else, when what I really want is this one. Am I crazy or what? wait… don’t answer that ;p
I’m interested to see how my relationship with this one goes. Will my interest fade out? Will it grow? Will I like this enough to restock? Who knows!
I was originally going to go for Harney & Sons Paris until I realized that I don’t have anymore!! D’: So I went for this TARDIS blend instead, which is perfect because it’s one of my favorites. Now since it is 2am here, it is officially Feb 22nd, which means I’m getting married today!!! Still waiting for the Doctor to take fiance and I both on adventures and crash the wedding later. There’s still time, right? Wibbly-wobbly….
Flavors: Berries, Caramel
I ordered a few of the SBT to try since the fiance (soon to be husband!!! OMG I’M GETTING MARRIED IN ONE DAY!!) and I both really like iced tea. There was a bit of an ordeal getting these. Our mail carrier didn’t deliver these because “no one was home” in order to receive the package. um, wait, we were home all day! We didn’t get the slip stating that the package wasn’t delivered though. I only found out because I checked the tracking knowing that it was supposed to arrive. ugh.
On to the tea though! I was really nervous to brew this up due to some of the “brewing mishap” reviews I’ve read regarding this tea series. I measured out the two quarts into my pitcher, and then transferred about 2 1/2 cups of that to a pot on the stove. Covering the pot I brought the water just to a boil, shut off the burner, added the bag of tea, and started my timer. Two minutes and 50 seconds later I fished out the bag, and poured the tea from the pot to my pitcher. Set in the fridge and wait until cold!
The dry tea had hints of a creaminess to it, but I wasn’t really getting anything else. Brewed up there is definitely a creamy vanilla scent going on. Taste-wise it’s an enjoyable base, smooth. I am just not getting coconut cream pie. I really really really wanted coconut cream pie. Added some home-made simple syrup to make it a sweet iced tea. Again really lovely, just not what I was expecting/hoping for.
ETA: Totally delish sweetened and with half and half! Still not getting a lot of coconut though. bummer!
Flavors: Cream, Vanilla
This was my after work tea. lol. What can I say? I like to make up two teas to go, one for the trip there, and one in my super insulated tumbler for the way home. I also picked up an iced tea (which was reeeaaaally sweet.) This one is reliable, even if it did kinda remind me of big red chewing gum today :/
Another travel tea for work today! Most of this I drank on my way to work, and I noticed more rooibos this time. Most likely because I am more familiar with the individual taste of rooibos. I feel like this might be good brewed a little stronger to make as a latte. Maybe it’s time to dust off the ol’ lab coat and play mad kitchen scientist (seeing how I’ve never made a latte in my life haha)
Not sure why, but I’m not really getting any chocolate from this. Which is really sad considering the name. I was hoping for DECADENT CHOCOLATE! lol. I you had just made me this tea and said, “try this!” I would have sipped and gone, “yum, it’s pretty good!” BUT it’s supposed to be chocolately deliciousness :( I got roasty coconut, which was lovely.
Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed this tea, it just didn’t pan out the way I expected.
I was hesitant to get this because there are three totally different types of tea (white, green, AND oolong!) but I was all “ooooh, slightly smokey vanilla? gimme!”
When I first opened the bag I was met with a very pleasant vanilla… but it was all lost :(
I don’t feel like I have the palette to describe what’s going on here in my cup, but it definitely has a more pronounced smokey flavor. Where’s the vanilla? soooooo, I added sugar, mwuahahaha. I like it better, but still, it’s no surprise this is at the back of my cupboard.
I think next time I will go for a shorter steep time, instead of the recommended 3minutes.
