Strawberry

Black Tea by Adagio Teas

Historians believe that the name ‘strawberry’ comes from an Old English tradition of placing straw on the ground around this fruit, preventing slugs and other insects from enjoying a free lunch. Once you try the delicious Strawberry Tea, you’re sure to see why they were so protective. Combining the succulent taste of sweet strawberries with bright Ceylon black tea, this is a treat you’ll keep for yourself!

I’m seeing little bits of leaves (strawberry leaves?) mixed in with this tea, but nothing that I could readily identify as pieces of strawberry. I was worried when, as I was steeping the tea I mostly smelled the Ceylon base, not anything I’d call strawberry. As it turns out, I was right to be worried. The tea is okay, but the strawberry flavors are quite weak and I really have to look for them in each sip to find them.

A lowered steeping time and a bit of milk to smooth out the taste of the Ceylon base still don’t really help develop the strawberry flavour all that much. This still mostly tastes like a typical Ceylon black tea with a bit strawberry at the end of each sip.

Ahhhh! Here’s my Black Flavored Tea for the day! I’m typing as I taste. As soon as you open the tin the Dried Strawberry Scent fills my nose and my work cubicle. What a lovely scent! It pretty much stays true thru steeping. I made sure I didn’t oversteep as suggested by more than one of our follow steepsters! It’s not a very strong black tea taste it’s more of a medium strength. The Strawberry addition is very nice. It blends well and I like it. I must say my favorite part of this tea is the aroma. I will certainly be sipping this again tho…thumbs up!

I just finished up my last of this – it was very nice. I could really taste the strawberry perfectly.

Just finishing up a cup of this now…it’s been a while since I have tried it and it’s still quite nice. I only have enough for one more cup tho…sigh…

Let another day of tea Begin!!!! Starting things off with this one! And it’s good! Getting low tho!

A little bitter today…not sure why…but not overly so it’s still pretty good.

Started with this flavored black today and it was great but I think I am more in the white and green mood for today…

This is another one of those teas that will draw you in by the aroma. It’s lovely. This is only my 2nd attempt but I have decided that I do like it very much.

This is the first time I’ve tried one of Adagio’s standard flavoured black teas. Initially, they seem fairly impressive. The dry leaves smell very strongly of strawberry, and I can see pieces of fruit among the black tea base. Closer inspection of the ingredients list reveals that the fruit pieces are actually raspberry, but I probably wouldn’t have known. They smell right, and that’s what counts. What they’ll ultimately contribute to the flavour remains to be seen.

I brewed this tea a little bit longer than the recommended time – more like 4 minutes than 3. It still smells wonderfully of strawberries, although there’s an underlying “green” scent I can’t quite identify. This carries through to the flavour, too, but I don’t mind it as it’s quite fresh and complements the creaminess of the strawberry pretty well.

I’m actually pretty pleased with the taste of this tea. Before this, I’d only tried Adagio’s holiday flavoured blacks, and I wasn’t universially impressed. This one is strawberry all right, and it comes through pretty well. The base tea isn’t too strong or astringent. It’s all just fine. I have a couple more of these in my stash, so I’m interested to try those as well now. Overall, a good experience. A pleasant afternoon quaffing tea.

Sample time. Some fruits are meant to be eaten with cream. This is one, and so I brew it with cream and sugar :) The smell is really grabbing at my nose. Tasty and smooth. The strawberry doesn’t overpower the tea at all and it actually blends wonderfully.

Strawberries are an interesting flavor. Either you get it really right and it turns out delicious or you get it wrong and it is a disaster. I love the actual fruit, so I am very particular when it comes to flavoring.

I had tried this tea a few years ago, and I had the vague memory that I enjoyed it, so in my Adagio order of the moment, in went Strawberry. The dry tea doesn’t smell like strawberries at all to me. It smelled sweet and hinted of generic berry. It wasn’t a bad smell, but definitely a miss in terms of strawberry flavor!

As I have mentioned before (in my other reviews), Adagio’s black tea base tends to be a bit bitter if brewed for any longer than 3 minutes. I am now very careful to brew 2.5 minutes or 3 minutes at the very most. So, I used 2 teaspoons in 16oz of water and brewed away. The water developed a dark caramel color rather quickly and then transitioned to dark brown/maroon. The smell I was getting from the brew was still not strawberry. I could smell tea, sweetness (sugary smelling), and a bit of generic berry (leaning towards a “berry punch” smell). Not thrilling.

The taste was no better. I tasted only sweet black tea, and after I swallowed there was a bit of something trying to be strawberry lingering on my tongue. I did end up sweetening it with brown sugar, and it was muuuuch better that way. Drinkable, but I wouldn’t call it strawberry per se.

Drinkable, not re-orderable. I still have to try it iced, I will post when I get around to it.

As a side note, I do have memories of liking if a few years ago and I have shared this tea with non tea drinkers previously and they loved it. So if you think you would enjoy it, I will not try to persuade you away from trying it! : )

Nice aroma but (Bethanny is correct) the ceylon black base Adagio uses leaves something no not something ALOT to be desired. If they would just change the ceylon base their flavored blacks could be much more enjoyable. I won’t rate it yet since it seems some other reviews say 3 minutes instead of 4 minutes (I used 4 minutes) and see if that takes away the bitterness of the ceylon.

I sun brewed this tea yesterday and I’m having it with my lunch. I have to say I’m not surprised by this- it’s the typical flavored black Adagio tea that’s misses on many levels. The ceylon base is just never really a hit with me – it’s either too bitter or too overwhelming of the other flavors. The strawberry flavor in this tea tastes rather artificial and very jammy.

Who would have thought that mixing this with Ti Kuan Yin would be the perfect complement to the 2nd round of the NFL draft…steeped 2 times and both perfect. Hard to mess up Ti Kuan Yin, really….perfect base for ANYTHING

This is probably my favorite flavored black tea from Adagio. Most of their flavored blacks are kind of artificial tasting, with the smell being overwhelming in comparison to the rather weak taste. However, this is wonderful. The smell was divine and the taste was subtle without being weak. It actually tastes like real strawberries, too. I’ll add this to my list of things to re-order once my sample runs out.
Also, I’m drinking this with my new glass tumbler from Teavana. The leaves look gorgeous floating around!

I’m enjoying this iced. This was my last of the sample, though, and I’m quite sad to see it go.

It’s starting to get really hot here. I made this iced today and it was really good!

The strawberry taste is super subtle; the black tea takes center stage, and the strawberry leaves a lingering sweet aftertaste. I certainly wouldn’t have it any other way, since it IS tea, after all. If you add a little milk and sugar, this becomes a very yummy sweet tea.

I had set the timer for 4 minutes this time, and the tea probably got around 4 minutes and 30 seconds. I added more sugar than I had before, and just a slight touch of milk. The sugar seems to really bring out and brighten the strawberry flavor (I use a “raw” sugar with my tea). A nice finish after a home cooked meal by my significant other.

One of my favorite teas: Really good light strawberry aroma, good strawberry flavor that’s enhanced by the addition of milk (half-and-half even better) and a small bit of sugar (the tea is naturally a bit sweet; too much sugar and the tea will become cloying). Love it!

Strong strawberry scent and flavour, very nice! It has a very strong aroma and I find I like it better when I steep it gently, with nearly boiling water for about three minutes or so.

The strawberry flavor is just bold enough, and actually tastes like strawberry should.

Very tasty tea. I usually add sugar and milk. Comes out tasting divine. Usually my go-to black tea that I drink.

Though I normally like my flavored blacks to be more flavor and less tea, the mild strawberry flavor coming in at the end of this is pretty satisfying. Nothing special, but I was expecting a dessert tea and got a lovely afternoon blend instead. This might be great iced and I want to try that; I also want to try steeping it for less time, as some other reviewers have done.

Just got my first order from Adagio…..this is the best strawberry tea I have found so far

My first cup of this via an Adagio sample is brewed with a light scent and the full color of a ripe Strawberry. A subtle taste of the fruit that I absolutely love makes me think I’ll be buying more of this when the sample is up.

A bit “dry” on the palate. It still delivers a nice strawberry flavor to accent the black tea.

SO I just brewed up a cup of Strawberry. Only steeped for about 3.5 minutes and still cannot escape the bitter taste of this tea, which is sad because it smells so good. The water was almost boiling when i added the tea too it. Maybe i need to reduce the amount of tea i’m adding to the water or something. If anyone has any suggestions on reducing bitterness let me know. I love this tea, but the bitterness turns me off.
