This one’s great! My new favourite mate, besides Chocolate Rocket, but who knows…I haven’t tried the other new chocolate-y one yet.
Hot, this basically tastes like orange juice, although it lacks something very particular to orange juice…some of the acidity, maybe? I think the other fruits sweeten it a bit. Underneath that you can taste the mate, but it blends well; although a bit of a bitter roasted flavour comes out as it cools to room temperature, so definitely drink it hotter.
Or maybe colder? I only got 10g of this, which makes about three gourds, so I haven’t iced it yet; but I imagine it’s going to be amazing iced. I’m definitely going back for a tin of this to have in the mornings with toast and eggs!
Oh yes, and I also got the little ceramic gourd and teeny bombilla DAVIDsTEA is selling right now. I’ve seen traditional ones for sale before, and never got them; mainly because I didn’t trust myself to care for them properly, and because the bombillas were severely marked up.
Then I saw this guy in DT: http://www.davidstea.com/ceramic-mate-gourd
And I thought, naw, I totally have to do this cutesy-wutesy easy version. I love it! The only complaint I have is about how the ceramic gives off heat, which makes it very hard to hold until it cools down. But it’s very easy to clean, and the teal silicone attachment holds the bombilla perfectly in place so it doesn’t go all over the place. The bombilla works fine, too; I left the mate to swirl around in the gourd, and the bombilla sucks up all the liquid without getting clogged.
Since I am internally six years old, I delight in now being able to drink tea through a straw. So naturally, I started experimenting with said straw. (Which I’m also going to have to buy replacements for, because I just know I will use this thing until it breaks.)
Back when all the stuff at my local Teaopia was 75% off, I picked up this thing which looks like a plastic coffee cup to-go lid with a removable infuser attached to the bottom. The infuser isn’t large, and is mostly kind of useless, but I discovered yesterday that the lid part fits PERFECTLY on (what else?) a Perfect Mug. And the bombilla? Fits neatly through the little drinking hole in the lid.
So I’ve now discovered a way to drink hot tea in a cup with a lid and a straw. I don’t think it gets more Westernized/Western bastardized than that.

Special thanks to SoftRevolution for this one!
I really like that David’s used Green Rooibos here. The trio of lemony-goodness and the ratio they used of each was lovely! Not too over-powering. It’s soothing and comforting. This is lemony but not puckery and not really sour. It’s sweet and slightly creamy in the middle of the sip – more specifically.
This is really lovely!
After a weekend of camping, eating junk food, and not drinking any good teas, I look forward to drinking good tea again! I thought mint would be a good choice to settle my junk food stomach.
This tea dry really reminds me of mouthwash. Steeped, it isn’t as much as toothpaste or mouthwash, but still a little bit. Otherwise, it is sweet, minty goodness. I really like mint as a flavour, so for me, this is a great bedtime tea.
Maybe try mixing with peppermint.
Preparation
I finished another sample of this today. I decided to finish this one today because my hubby and I have a movie night planned tonight. We picked a movie up from the library and we’re hoping to have a relaxing night for a change, rather than the hectic days we’ve been having lately.
As for the tea, it’s one of those blends that I gravitate towards in the Spring and Summer. It’s light, sweet and lovely, and it occasionally reminds me of caramel corn. I enjoy it, but it’s not a tea that I need to keep stocked in my cupboard year round. This is nice as an occasional treat so I plan to pick up another sample of this in the future, possibly next Spring/Summer if I can wait that long. I’m trying not to buy much tea these days and use what I have instead, as we’re gearing up for our upcoming move into our reno’d home. Less than a month to go, 22 days to be exact…I’m getting excited!
It’s been a while since I’ve had this tea. I believe it was one of the first teas I had ever tried from Davids Tea, back when I started with Steepster about 9 or 10 months ago. I’m impressed that I still like it almost the same as when I first tried it. It’s one of those teas that I don’t see myself drinking on a regular basis, but is thoroughly enjoyed when I have it on the rare occasion.
As I described in my previous log for this tea, hot, the smell and taste is like caramel corn, but as it cools there is a slight tartness that comes to the forefront that personally, I could do without.
It’s a unique tea, but not worth getting more than a sample size at a time. The taste is a fun novelty (or noveltea, if you’re like me and you laugh at cheesy puns). It’s certainly not a classic everyday option for me – that would be like watching the same movie every night.
I wondered about this one and chose not to purchase. Looks like it’s a good thing! Maybe I’ll get a cup to go when I’m there to make up my own mind but so far you’ve been pretty bang on
@Nxtdoor – awww..that’s nice to hear. Everyone has different tea tastes, but maybe yours and mine are similar? :) This tea is sample worthy for sure, it’s fairly unique. It’s a tea that I like on occasion, but not one I’d love everyday. When you try it, I hope you like it…or possibly even love it. Cheers!
Delicious! Tastes like caramel-corn. As a hot beverage I liked this one instantly. With a little coaxing, paired with the heavenly aroma, and the pure curiosity of a tea called “movie night”, I convinced my husband to take a few sips of this one – and even he (who is very much a non tea drinker)said that it was good. I also tried this one cold, and although it was still quite good, I prefer it as a hot beverage as the sweetness seems to blend more smoothly with the flavor when it’s hot. So good I give it 2 thumbs up!
Finally moved into my new place! But I’m coming down with a cold. It’s in the very early stage so my senses are still sharp enough to review this.
Ever since I was a young child, almond has been my favourite nut, so I just had to get this. The dry leaf smells like almond extract! The lapacho bark doesn’t seem to have any scent, or if it does, it has no chance against the almond. I would also like to point out that it’s genius to pair apricot kernels with almond to kick up that bitter almond flavour.
The taste is very bang on too. I haven’t had anything with amaretto in ever but this definitely conjures up memories of almond biscotti and Blueberry Tea (the cocktail). By far the most almondy tea I’ve ever tasted in my life. And the level of bitterness is perfect.
If you feel like a non-alcoholic drink that resembles alcohol, this could do the trick. I just wonder though, seeing that apricot kernels and lapacho bark can both be toxic if an excess amount is ingested, I wonder how much of this tea one could drink without noticing any side effects.
Preparation
Meh. I’m trying to think of something awesomely clever to say about this one, but all that’s coming to mind is…meh. I just got my steeper in the mail, and this was one of the samples that came with it. It’s not bad, it just doesn’t strike me as all that great either. It’s green tea and jasmine, nothing extraordinary here.
Amanda THANK YOU!!!!
This is Watermelon, BUT, MORE than JUST Watermelon!
I can taste Watermelon, first, but then I can taste the apple and honeydew, too, and a little strawberry, AND even a bit of carrot.
This is really wonderful flavor-wise…just want I was hoping for! And NO Hibiscus! YAY!!!
YUMMERS!
I would say…why not just do a plan watermelon straight-up but I have done pure watermelon juice before and it does need a little extra sumpin’-sumpin’ and I think they GOT IT right at David’s! Nice job!
Amanda sent me some of this! Thanks so much! I have been wanting to try it for a while!
It smells a little like Birthday Cake, I suppose.
The post-infusion liquor is very murky green-grey-brown and texture-E.
The flavor is sweet from not only the rooibos(s) but the sprinkles and probably even the ice cream bits…which also makes this creamy. It’s not as cake-E per say but moreso reminiscent of the frosting.
Regardless – it’s tasty!
