270 Tasting Notes
2021 Advent Calendar Day 8
Kind of knew that I might not like this one. Cucumber is not meant to be in teas. It wasn’t a tea I dumped out but it’s definitely not on my buy again list. But if you like Cucumber infusions, it probably is one you might like
Flavors: Cucumber

I wasn’t sure what to make of the ingredient list this morning and my first sip was a dubious one. A few sips in, I definitely decided it was a favorite. I don’t care for hot spices much and I worried that the chili pepper would be too much for me. However, they were very understated and I felt it worked well with chocolate and strawberries. I will say, this is the first chocolate flavored tea I’ve enjoyed.
Flavors: Chocolate, Clove, Ginger, Strawberry

I really enjoyed this one. I liked the flavor combination of almonds, pistachios, and cranberries. I don’t detect the rose petals at all, which is good as I don’t usually care for rose teas.
Flavors: Almond, Cranberry, Marzipan

This was a light, bright tea. Definite citrus and lemongrass flavor and scent. I didn’t detect any mango which was a tad disappointing. I enjoyed this one though.
Flavors: Citrusy, Lemongrass

I generally worry about how any bready type food is going to translate in a tea. This tea was tasty and I wish I hadn’t taken it in my travel mug to work so I could have focused on the flavors. In between writing reports, I seem to recall hazelnut, chocolate, and a hint of banana. Maybe it was the name leading me there but it triggered memories of Paris in 2001. Paris crepes are so much better than Mall Food Court Crepes.
Tea was tasty. Would get this one again.
Flavors: Chocolate, Hazelnut

I loved the scent of the leaves but I didn’t find that the pre steeping apple and cinnamon smells carried over into the tea. My cup tasted more like a basic Chamomile which was disappointing after my excitement from the opening sniff test.
Not a bad tea but I wanted more apple and cinnamon.
Flavors: Chamomile

I’ve been wanting to try BrutaliTeas for a while and when I saw there was an advent calendar, I ordered as soon as I could. The calendar is a clear box with tiny samples inside. They list the teas on the back alphabetically and when you take out the sample your tea name is revealed.
Day One is a new blend The Toffman Prophecies. I’m not sure that I’ve had a Pu Erh Tea in the past but I will say I will definitely try again. This tea has a strong woody taste and is very smooth.
Good start to advent/December craziness.
Flavors: Wood
Preparation
This was my first time trying Gen Mai Cha due to a tea fairy earlier this year. The toastiness of the rice was an interesting flavor and delightful scent to experience. The green tea itself was bland, but the roasted rice flavor made the tea enjoyable. The sampler was enough for 2 mugs of tea, so I tried it on different days about mid day.
Flavors: Rice, Toasted, Toasted Rice
Preparation
I’ve been drinking this one for the last two weeks. My first cup I did not care for it. I had my last cup today and I’ll say, it’s improved but probably still not one I would purchase again.
The leaves are neat to look at with bright colored berries mixed in. This probably should have been a sign to me that it might be a bit to sweet for my tastes. There is a strong berry taste with a very very very small hint of smoke if I concentrate hard.
Flavors: Berries, Blackberry
