drank Ancient Yellow Buds by Rishi Tea

OhmygoodnessGuessWhatIFound?!!?!!?!!

This… is the… BEST… unflavoured… unsweetened… tea I have ever experienced.
That’s right… I did not just taste it… I EXPERIENCED it.

Have you ever spread fresh honey from the farmer’s market onto freshly baked, still warm, French bread?
You’re salivating right? Good. That is the aroma of this tea. The aroma matches the taste. It’s glorious.

This is the very first yellow tea I have ever had… and I do believe it may become my new obsession, if any others even slightly compare to this.

I saw that Rishi has one other yellow tea right now, called Yellow Sprout. It’s next up on my “to-do” list. As for the Yellow Buds… I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM.

Well. If the prospect of trying this tea won’t give me motivation to get rid of this cold, I don’t know what else will.

LENA

I am now adding this to my “to buy” list. I want an experience tooooo! :) Sounds delish!

I ♥ NewYorkCiTEA

I’ve never had a yellow tea either. But I’d like to try one now.

Cofftea

Yellow tea is pretty much amazing.:)

Cofftea

Fava Tea Co. has 2 yellows. I wonder if they’re Rishi.

Samantha

I need to try this! I’m usually a black/flavored black drinker and I’m trying to find some lighter teas for the evening (and to educate myself). This sounds perfect.

drank Pu-erh Vanilla Mint by Rishi Tea

Oooooooh! Update from the last time I had this! So… I got the POUND of Pu-erh Vanilla Mint that I ordered! Mwahaha, I was so excited!
So to celebrate, last night I did as Rishi recommends, and I brewed it like a chai. Half milk, half water, and 2 tablespoons of tea per 12 ounces. It was very good (when you smell it you’re going to think of Andes Mints or Girl Scout Thin Mints!) but I, personally, prefer it just brewed with water. It creates SUCH a dark brew, but it’s not bitter at all, and it’s just… awesome. It’s awesome. You should try it. It’s awesome.

Have a great day!

TeaCast

I’m seriously slacking on the Pu-Erh tea drinking, I’ve had Rishi’s, but I don’t remember what kind, it was too long ago, I’m not even sure I have it. Good info Oh Cha!

LENA

but is it awesome? :)

takgoti

@LENA F. Good question. But did she say that THIS one was awesome? Maybe TeaCast is better off sticking with his possibly awesome possibly not-so-great pu-erh, because it sounds to me like Oh Cha didn’t care for this tea.

@Oh Cha A pound?! That’s dedication. This is totally going on my list.

Oh Cha!

Seriously! It’s so good! I have at least one cup of this a day! The pound is going quickly!! LOL

I’m working on recipe possibilities for this tea… I’m thing about trying to make it into some sort of ice cream topping… but with frozen yoghurt of course… because I’m a health nut!! Maybe… a twist on a grasshopper you know???

I’ll let you guys know how it goes!! :)

I like how it swells to like 500 times its original size after the first infusion. Hehehe… gets me every time. :)

I’m very picky about my black teas.
This is one of the best I’ve found!

TeaCast

Golden Needle is a black tea? The variety I had was white, perhaps they have it for both? Very interesting, and tasty!

Oh Cha!

Oh gosh yes, it’s a Black Tea. It’s absolutely fabulous. I think the best of Rishi’s black teas (not including the pu-erhs)… it’s hard to describe because many people are so familiar with a black tea that is bitter, almost coffee like, and that needs sweetening, or milk added to it.

This one, although admittedly pricey, is naturally so sweet and smooth!! I just can’t get enough of it!!!

Rishi’s Keemun Golden Buds are similar, and a close second. I looooooove loose black tea!

Best grocery store chai I’ve found.
…but I’m not much for grocery store tea these days.

Very good, but I was surprised to see the leaves and twigs in such small pieces. It was more powdery than I expected.
Liked it lots, but I’ve had better.

I was so surprised by how much I loved this tea!!

Great for the white tea lover, who wants a slightly different take on the usual. So good!

Profile

Bio

I’m a foodie. I’ve worked in tea professionally, and the obsession never left. I’ve also worked at a wine bar (with cheese, truffles & charcuterie) and a teahouse/restaurant (with excellent artisan pairing dishes) on the side.
So I’ve done a lot of tasting… and you’ll notice I bring up food pairing a lot!

I’m all about sharing recipes and recommendations, so please feel free to throw any of yours my way, and should you ask I’ll be happy to do the same. I’m also old school with my brewing methods – so if you have any questions of brewing or artisan teaware, feel free to ask.

Activities:
Drinking artisan tea, indulging in an entire bottle of wine, savouring microbrewed beer, making everything from scratch, putting cheese on/with everything like a true Wisconsinite, spending months’ worth of paychecks on Amazon, and flipping through and smelling the pages of books I surely won’t get to for another 8-10 years.
