1924 Tasting Notes

Advent Day 15

Another okay blend. Mostly getting cinnamon, not getting any apple. Slightly cakey.

Advent Day 14

Interesting to have this included in an advent, especially when S&V has so many festive blends. It’s fine. Not a huge fan of the fake chocolate flavor, but it’s not too egregious. I do like that it’s distinctly raspberry, rather than the usual chocolate/strawberry blend. The aftertaste is quite tart from the hibiscus. Slightly astringent.

Advent Day 13

I love white chocolate/peppermint flavored things at the holidays, so was really excited for this blend to come up. But, the dry leaf stinks like sour gym socks. Smells a bit better when it starts to steep, but still has this lingering sour stench. Yeahhhhh….this is a no. It’s just weirdly sour and footy.

Cameron B.

I remember this being horrible ha ha, not looking forward to it… XD

amandastory516

I just read your review- seems like we had similar thoughts! Not sure how white chocolate peppermint could go so wrong.

Dustin

Oh no! Sounds like it would be perfect for a Harry Potter Bertie Botts tea collection. Is it white chocolate peppermint or did you get stinky gym socks?

Advent Day 10

This reminds me quite a lot of Forever Nuts from DT. It has a similar pink hue, but the flavor is also vaguely similar. Cinnamon, cakey, candy fruit I guess.

Advent Day 11

Another blend that I wouldn’t have purchased for myself, but it was actually quite tasty. It’s really reading as Eggo waffles to me. Not getting any chocolate.

Dustin

Huh. Eggo tea could be potential for fun!

Advent Day 12

Nice to see a black tea! This is just okay, though. Super mild berry flavor. Black base is pretty mild.

Advent Day 9

Honestly I anticipated strongly disliking this, but it’s actually kind of nice? The walnut aroma is really intense, but softens a bit in the flavor. It really tastes like some kind of caramel walnut dessert bar.

Cameron B.

It’s been a while for me with this one, excited to revisit it!

ashmanra

I am out but I kept the tin because I plan to order a refill someday.

Advent Day 8

Meh. Didn’t get any chocolate out of this, I get a pretty strong artificial cream flavor (which is interesting since I only see strawberry flavor in the ingredients). The strawberry is pretty artificial.

Advent Day 6

Well….I always appreciate trying blends in advents that I wouldn’t purchase ordinarily. So, win on that from I guess?
This sure smells like bubblegum. Like Dubble Bubble.
Tastes foul. The combination of bubblegum flavor and hibiscus is really odd and off-putting.

Leafhopper

Yeah, bubblegum and tea don’t really seem like a good pairing.

Advent Day 7

Not a black currant fan (with the exception of Ribera). It generally has a cat pee quality that I just can’t get past. This falls into that category. Bleh.

Cameron B.

Ha ha I haven’t tried this one yet, but “cat pee” is not exactly encouraging… XD

amandastory516

lol. Maybe it’s like cilantro- some people love it and some people say it tastes like soap? I’ve always gotten cat pee from black currant, but I know a lot of people love it, so hopefully you like it too!

Dustin

LOL! There is a beer brewer in Austin who makes sours and every time I’ve tried them I got flavors of acetone and vomit. Enough people must be tasting it differently since they were able to stay in business.

Cameron B.

Ha ha I love sours, and I don’t know if you’re talking about Blue Owl or not, but they’re my fave! XD

Dustin

OMG, I am totally talking about Blue Owl! LOL! I haven’t had them in years because I was so grossed out by the flavors. Their taproom was in my neighborhood and I’d shudder every time I’d drive past. I’ve long been in love with Martin House Brewing sours in Fort Worth. They do such interesting flavors and pull them off so well. Muller HEB has a good selection of their beers.

Dustin

And thank you for perfectly illustrating my point, Cameron! :)

tea-sipper

I completely understand this about black currant flavoring. But IMO, S&V’s was usually the least offending of black currant flavoring, if that means anything. :)

tea-sipper

I love that so many of you grabbed S&V’s advent! But it also seems like they are including the teas that would be their least best-sellers, if that is a thing. And they have SO MANY teas, so that is a weird choice for them to make.

Dustin

I think advents are a big marketing opportunity that companies treat as an after thought. It is often given as a gift (or in my case to try a new company out) to people unfamiliar with their brand of teas. I’m baffled that they wouldn’t want to put their best selling or unique teas in them and show off to entice new customers. It blows my mind when they do repeats in advents too.

tea-sipper

YES exactly — advents should be treated more like samplers by these tea shops!

Cameron B.

I checked the list of teas before buying, and I think we may be past the boring ones ha ha. I remember there being a lot of holiday teas and even a couple of literary ones!
