Tension Tamer

Herbal Tea by Celestial Seasonings

“This comforting blend begins with eleuthero, an Asian herb popular for centuries because of the sense of calm and well being it imparts. We’ve added cooling peppermint, spicy ginger and tangy lemons to create a remarkably uplifting herbal blend. Bring harmony to your hectic day with a cup of this flavorful and restorative tea.” — Charlie Baden, Celestial Seasonings Blendmaster Since 1975.

Ingredients: Eleuthero, peppermint, cinnamon, ginger, chamomile, West Indian lemongrass, licorice, catnip, tilia flowers, natural lemon flavor with other natural flavors (contains soy lecithin), hops and Vitamins B6 and B12.

Hello Steepster, I am back for a bit, haven’t been drinking much tea lately, trying to avoid the caffeine. I got this at Whole Foods along with a bevy of vitamins and some green juice. It’s been years since I have had this blend but I like it, the peppermint is not too strong and the other herbs make this a nice relaxing tisane. Tonight I go to meditation, hope all are having a nice weekend.

Tea of the evening – drinking out of my new mug that just arrived today:

Hope everyone is doing well out there!!!

Tea of the evening here, I am hoping this nice herbal will help me to relax and go to sleep. Good night, all!

I actually really enjoy this. Like others have said, there are a lot of competing flavors in here and the only thing that I can really pick out as dominant is the lemon flavoring. It is a strange concoction and the flavor is unlike anything else, but I do find it to be very pleasant and relaxing. I understand the mentions of medicinal flavor as it is lemony, slightly minty, and it coats your throat a little bit going down. Overall, I can’t quite explain why I like this stuff so much. I admit that it’s strange, but I love it. As a side note, I also definitely notice a slight cognitive enhancement when I sometimes sip on a 36 ounce jug of this stuff iced throughout the day. It provides an energy boost, but at the same time relaxes…this is definitely due to the eleuthero (which I also recommend as a great herbal supplement) and B-vitamins. Overall, I really like this stuff. Definitely my favorite bagged tea.

This is my go-to upset stomach tea and wow do I have an upset stomach today. Unfortunately it wasn’t as effective as it usually is, but it did help a bit. I can’t say that I would ever drink this tea for the taste, and it didn’t help that I over-steeped it so it was extra strong today but I kind of had to force myself to drink it. Usually it’s much easier on the taste buds.

Lemongrass, mint, chamomile, ginger, and – who knew! – catnip! Agreat relaxing blend. I love this at work, but I also love drinking it when I have a cold. It’s comforting. Maybe I will start offering it to my clients!

This tea just does it for me – I am not sure if it is placebo or an herb that actually works, but this tea mellows me out very well as I drink it. And the flavor – mmmmmmm!!!! I think I am in the minority (as most other Steepsters tend to think this is too medicinally flavored), but I really enjoy the many different herbal flavors Tension Tamer provides – especially the catnip and licorice. I can drink this one bag at a time if I need to, but in order for me to get the full flavor I love, I usually steep two teabags with a bit of honey. Perfection.

I can see how many would not drink this tea for the flavor. It’s not fruity, creamy, buttery, or spicy, really. I think it’s herb-y. If you’re used to drinking teas that remind you of some other flavor, or if you’re not that into Ricola-flavored teas, I wouldn’t try this unless it’s at a friend’s house and you don’t have to worry about money wasted on a box of tea you won’t drink. I happen to like it. Could be my offbeat taste buds, though.

The Taste: Neutral. Can’t decide whether I like it or dislike it… but I definitely neither hate it, nor love it. Since I have plenty of wonderful-tasting teas, I would not drink this for the (slightly medicinal) flavor. So, with that in mind, why do I LOVE this tea?

The Effects: This stuff really does tame tension, if you’re willing to use 2-3 teabags. Trust me, the effects are REAL. (And by “Real,” I mean “Don’t drive a car after 3+ cups of Tension Tamer.”) In my mind, Tension Tamer Tea is a good herbal medicine, not just a mere beverage.

The Verdict: This tea is great when you need to relax. The experience of drinking warm herbal tea is rather soothing, especially if you add honey and/or lemon juice to improve the taste. Add in the medicinal effects, and you’ve got a great remedy for today’s stressful world.

Backlogging – shared a pot of this with the boy last night. Put me right to sleep, as it always does. Him, not so much. But he was amused by the dragon on the box, and said it tastes pretty good.

Weird concoction of floral and grassy flavors with a hint of mint. Somewhat of an identity crisis, but manages to hold it’s own.

It’s like drinking a cup of weird — but a nice kind of weird. I love the artwork on the box. One day I hope Celestial Seasonings could add Prozac to the mix. It would make taking my antidepressants a lot more fun.

i love this blend, it’s mostly mellow but had a small but high note to it that makes me smile

This was my father’s tea of choice when I was growing up. Now that I work a nine-to-five myself, I can see the appeal. A very bright and surprisingly complex blend, definitely one of Celestial Seasoning’s better offerings. Definitely a relaxing cup to enjoy after work.

I broke out in hives last week – something that I believe is triggered by stress. Tea in general has a very relaxing affect on me, so I can’t say one way or another if this tea does this moreso than others. However, 3 days later, and 3 cups later, the hives are fading. I can say that the taste in general is quite pleasing. The anise is subtle, overpowered by the cinnamon to balance out the flavor. There is something about the aftertaste of anise that I don’t like and that subtracts points for me – but the smell of this tea is totally amazing. It’s awesome for that late night tea, naturally caffeine free. I’ll be keeping this one around, but can only drink it sparingly due to the anise aftertaste.

Another old school one for me. (and yes it was the box art that conned me into this one).
But it is a good tea, and as I recall quite lemoney to me.
And despite this being something that tastes of highschool nostalgia to me, I am
actually pining for a cup at the moment….b/c if I thought that time frame of my life
was tension-filled. Well, lets just say it needs mega taming now.

I recently discovered this tea and it’s one of my favorites at the moment. Definitely has a unique combination of flavors, but it’s soothing and I’m a big fan.

I also own this tea. I wasnt sure whether or not I liked it at first. It does have a strong hint of either ginger or whatever it is. However…when i have one of those days, that is the tea i turn to. I bought it so i certainly am gonna drink it:) I also add agave to it. Actually if i ever add anything to my teas its either honey or agave. I try not to use sugar. I recommend agave. Its sweeter than sugar so u dont need a lot! Anyways…ill keep the tea. It could be psychological but i actually think it calms me down on a crazy day! :)

Tension Tamer is a favorite for my mother and me, and in my opinion, it is one of the best herb teas available from Celestial Seasonings. While bagged teas are never quite as good as the full leaf alternative, they are more widely available.

I have experimented quite a bit with this tea. It is good as a hot tea, as well as iced. I have also brewed iced tea mixing this with the Republic of Tea’s Mint Fields Herb Tea. It makes an excellent summer tea: light and refreshing!

Ginger is overpowering in this tea, at least I think it is ginger… so ginger haters beware! I didn’t notice it provide any help to cope with stress, it’s just isn’t potent enough for that.
