Love Tea #7

Black Fruit Blend by DAVIDsTEA

Get lucky

One sip of #7 and you’ll find yourself head over heels. Mysteriously changed. Magically happy. Walking on air. How does it work? Frankly, we don’t know. Our blender came up with it and then just ran off with the girl of his dreams. Maybe it’s the chocolate bits that lower your inhibitions. Or the seductive strawberries. Or the romantic rose petals. Either way, this black tea is seriously lucky.

Ingredients: Chinese black tea, dark chocolate (sugar, chocolate liquor, cocoa butter, soy lecithin and vanilla), freeze-dried strawberry, red rose petals, natural and artificial flavouring*.

Allergens: Dairy and soy

I really really love the smell of this tea. When you open it up it smells just like strawberries dipped in chocolate, yum, yum, yum! There is a slight hint of floral but really the strawberry and chocolate stand out.

After steeping the color of the liquor is lighter than I thought, it is still a nice amber color but on the lighter side.

First taste was not what I expected… all I could taste was the black tea… I really really wanted to taste the strawberries and chocolate but all I tasted was the black tea. Not that this is a bad thing just not what I was expecting.

After it cooled a bit I could taste just a hint of chocolate and strawberries and I could really smell the florals in it but I could not taste the floral notes at all. I am going to have to brew this a couple of times and see if can’t get the strawberries and chocolate to pop more.

Yum! This is definitely chocolate and strawberry. Sweet with a bit of black tea in the background. Thank you Lori for letting me try this.

This is not a bad tea but I do prefer Read my lips by david’s tea. I can taste mint, a hint of chocolate and possible some strawberries.

David’s has done it again! So on my third trip there this week I was disappointed to find out that they still hadn’t gotten in the Tea of the Month for January, Splash! However, incapable of leaving empty-handed I had to pick up a few more things (if I didn’t know I had a problem before, after this week, I can be sure…). I had LOVED the sample I’d previously gotten of this tea, and just knew I needed more ASAP. Where to start? It’s chocolately, it’s got just the right amount of fruity flavor to it. I definitely get the chocolate-covered strawberry analogy. It’s comfort in a cup. It was the perfect thing to bring with me to work on this very snowy day. David’s to the rescue once again!

I got this one as the valentine’s tea and chocolate tins from my husband.
I really liked this tea and have been drinking it on Sundays or as a special treat when I deserve one! lol
First, I taste the chocolate, and then the strawberries….chocolate covered strawberries. As I sip more into the cup, I get the floral taste of the rose petals.
My little tin is now all gone, I will be re-stocking this one!

Also a sample I got (but I end I might end up buying a 50g.)

This is supposed to be a chocolate tea? The strawberry flavor is so intense in this, very liquor-y. Under that strawberry swirl comes the little dark chocolate bite. The black tea and rose petals are just here to wrap it all together, methinks. Like a sweet gift.
If cute was a flavor I think it could be easily used to describe this tea. The name fits.

So I went to DavidsTea, yet again, and got some (too many) 10g sample bags of a bunch of teas I’ve been wanting to try. This just happened to be one of them.

First of all I despise fruit dipped in chocolate so I’m really not quite sure what possessed me to try this in the first place however, I am enjoying it as much as I would something I’d rather not have :P
I can taste everything here – chocolate, strawberry, and even a slight floral taste. For someone who enjoys chocolate and fruit this would be perfect because that’s exactly what it tastes like – strawberries dipped in chocolate. Bang on for what they were aiming for :)

I very much disliked this tea!!! I am really surprized to see that so many people really enojyed this tea. I’m not sure if i didmade this right but i have tried it 3 times now and each time i find it just as bad as the first sip. I’m new to this whole loose leaf tea and was surprized to dislike this tea so much.

This is one of my favorite latte teas. It reminds me a lot of chocolate rocket, but with strawberry instead. It tastes like an amazing chocolate covered strawberry, and only gets better with sweetener and milk. Great tea to add to your collection if you are starting off with flavoured teas.

This the very first tea I tasted from Davidstea and woahhh, this is insane. I didn’t remember how much I was craving for this tea. Especially with milk (there is not a lot of tea that I drink milk, but this one tastes like paradise ! )
I can drink it as a desert because the chocolate is really there (When I don’t yield to my mom’s apple pie or a big brownie, mhmmm) . The strawberry taste stands out more than chocolate , I think. Just smelling this tea makes me happy !
I felt like making it in my thermos this monday morning, after a too short spring break..

Anyway, it made my day. loveeeeeeee it!

This is probably the best chocolate tea scent I have ever smelled, not too rich, not too nutty. And the fruit and flowers compliment on each side.

But the taste is an extremely well balanced decadence of chocolatey goodness. And where the chocolate ends, the strawberry starts, making a beautifully romantic and sexy flavor. I like that the rose is not an overpowering taste, as it vies more to give a dark underlying tone.

But it is more the chocolate and strawberry that are prominent, making this a lovely tea that should be loved.

Third tea from David’s teas. They’ve all been hits so far, and this one continues the trend!

I’ve noticed that for me to enjoy a flavored tea, I must enjoy the underlying black tea. Some companies seem to use a bitter/low quality black in these blends, and I never enjoy them. Whatever David’s is using agrees with me – it tastes like tea, but it can handle the longer steeping time I think the other flavors need! I will certainly be ordering more of their flavored teas, as I have been quite disappointed in some other brands.

The dry leaves smell like a candle I have in my living room, which freaked me out and made me worry that the tea would be cloying. I steeped 5 minutes at boiling, and added my usual amount of milk and sugar (chocolate teas need creaminess to feel real to me!)

I’m not getting any rose to speak of, but the strawberry is there! I love fruit, but generally don’t like fruit teas (too tart) so I’m pleased at how true it feels. The chocolate comes across as more of a vanilla to me for some reason, but it is there. It’s lovely and light – I really enjoyed this cup, and wanted to immediately make another (but I’ve already promised “Read my lips” a go in my travel mug for rehearsal tonight… I love my mint teas when I sing!)

I’m interested in to try this again and see if I get a different mix depending on my scoops.

This time I made sure that I saw some rose teals in my infuser, as the last time I made this tea there was no rose in my cup. The result? Success! The rose takes away some of the sweetness of the chocolate/strawberry blend and takes the tea to another level. It’s still a bit like candy, but now it’s fancy candy! I like perfumed teas, so this is what I was looking for.

I drank this while I was teaching (piano) and my student had to stop playing to demand a bit of whatever smelled so lovely. This is a definite reorder for me – next time I will get the tin!

Its the first time I try this tea . The smell in the bag is definitely chocolate with a hint of strawberry. I can’t really find the floral smell of the roses but it’s ok. I expected a chocolate taste but really it taste like strawberry and fruity with dark chocolate in the background. I can’t find any rose in the taste too. There is some bitterness in the tea, maybe I should steep it less next time or add some milk to balance that.
Overall this tea is intense, sweet, romantic and girly .

This lazy sunday afternoon, trying to decide on which tea to have (my mom may be right, I seem to have quite a few to choose from – she thinks too many). Decided that I would give one of the 3 samplers from my last online order a go, and this is the one that one out. The aroma sorta reminded me of the Chocolate Rocket tea… but maybe berrier? If that makes sense.

Made it into a tea latte (god I’m on a roll with them) and find that the taste is really amazing in the latte. But I want to hold off on a true taste decision till I’ve had some plain (right now its about a 75?). I definitely get a light berry flavor that is enjoyable, and not much of the chocolate…

Edit: Did a resteep of this tea and drank it plain. Actually found the taste to be quite subtle, and I did enjoy it though I’m not sure it’s one I would add to my tin collection – I do have a slightly digger sample (from the “Sweet Indulgence” sampler) that i will try another day.

I Decided that since today is Valentine’s Day It would be the perfect opportunity to crack open this tea for the first time, In the bag the tea smells amazing, Reminds me of that first whiff you get when you open a box of flavored chocolates. Smells more and more like strawberries as it steeps, I’m actually really enjoying the smell of this. the color is pretty too a sort of orangy red, very appropriate, this tea is really putting me in the valentine’s day spirit! The taste is nice, very strawberry, you get the chocolate more as an afterthought, not too sweet a little bitter from the chocolate, don’t really get the rose petals but they do look pretty in my glass tea bottle. All In all this tea will get you into the spirit of Valentine’s day, I’ll find out tonight about the getting lucky part….

Backlog: It’s good, but not amazing. The dry leaves are certainly very pretty to look at, but as far as taste goes, I could do with more strawberries and less rose petals.

The smell of this is overwhelmingly chocolate (like, coworkers-stopping-at-your-desk-to-remark-on-the-chocolate, chocolate), but the flavor is not as intense as the smell. I’ll certainly enjoy finishing what I have of it, but probably won’t order it again, as I think there’s better chocolate teas out there.

I’ve very much fallen out of “love” with this tea. It’s a bit too sweet & floral for my preferences. But, I’ve only enough left for 2 cups, so I shall diligently drink it up to achieve another sipdown today. (Need to make room on my shelf for the Summer Collection!)

Added a bit of milk to the cup to try and mellow out the floweriness a bit, and I have to say I’m liking it a little better this way. I won’t change my rating, because there was time when I liked this better than I do now.

Broke my rule about having caffeinated tea after lunch on this one. I had to get the taste of a failed tisane experiment out of my mouth, and I knew that the heavier, malty taste of Love Tea #7 would do the trick.

When I first tasted this tea, I was in the midst of a chocolate tea phase. In comparison to some of the others I was enjoying at the time (Chocolate Orange, Red Velvet Cake, Read my Lips…) this one didn’t really stand out as super desserty. But now that I seem to be on a bit more of a light, fruity flavored kick, I can appreciate the richness that this blend has to offer.

Still think that a stronger strawberry flavor would be an improvement, though, so I’m leaving my rating as is. It’s just interesting how you notice different flavors at different times.

Well hello there. This might just be the best smelling tea in the world. Smells exactly like you’d think it would – loads of natural strawberry with hints of roses and chocolate. I spy a couple of chocolate chips and rose petals in the mix, but it looks like a pretty standard black tea at first glance.

Steeped, this tea smells the way the ideal Valentine’s day should smell: heavy on chocolate and roses. A lighter scent than the dry tea, but still spectacular. I’m considering hanging tea bags full of this stuff in my room, seriously. But I digress, my first sip is earthy and a little bitter (maybe I oversteeped?). The aftertaste is subtly sweet and chocolaty. I’ve become a sucker for milk in my blacks, so let’s try that out… I think this is the first time milk didn’t do too well in a black – I don’t suggest it with this one. Once I added the milk, the tea seemed to lose its sweetness and I was just left with a woody taste. But a bit of sugar seems to bring the strawberry back to the forefront, so not all is lost.

This tea smells incredible. Like I mentioned, maybe the best smelling tea I’ve ever tried. It tastes pretty lovely straight, but seems to lose its appeal with milk. It’s a little sweet naturally so I’d suggest you be careful when adding sweetener to it! Overall, a pretty good tea. Just maybe don’t steep it for the full five minutes.

Well I didn’t get lucky after consuming that tea does that qualify as false advertising?! What I did get though was a nice cup of floral chocolatey tea.

Dry you have you typical black tea leaves, contrasting the darkness of the tea leaves are rose petals and dried strawberry pieces. It has a fragrant rose and chocolate aroma that is quite pleasing. Steeping the tea gives off the same chocolatey floral aroma.

The final brew is a dark rose amber color, it has the distinct smell of roses with a subtle hint of chocolate. One sip and the flavor explodes on your tongue first is a sweet chocolate taste, the following after tasting is a slightly tart floral taste that lingers for a while.

I wasn’t sure about this tea at first, not only the name but having rose petals in the tea was something I have not had before. I am glad I went out on a whim with this one because frankly its delicious. It has both the perfect combination of sweet and tart to keep you wanting more, they did a great job on this tea.

this tea tastes like incredibly juicy chocolate covered strawberries. There is a delicious black tea taste underneath though that makes this amazing all the way down. I generally can’t handle rose petals in tea but this one I don’t even taste them. I suspect they might come out more when it’s iced. A great late morning, early afternoon pick me up!
