Toasty, nutty, sweet but not cloying.
A nice white toffee flavored tea.
I have found I am not IN LOVE with the white teas lately … I don’t dislike them but I’m not craving them.
With that said … this one is quite enjoyable!
The flavors are not artificial tasting and there is no cloying sweet or artificial yuck flavor left behind.
Definitely getting the nutty toasty flavor from the toffee.
I like the look of the leaves – some large ones, some rolled like ones, its pretty to look at.
Good job Zen Tea so far I like everything I have tired!

Thanks to Zen Tea for a sample.

Toffee tastes great, but isn’t so great for my teeth. Plus all those nasty bits get left in your mouth and just.. ick. So I mostly stick to toffee flavored things, if I can help it.

When I saw this white tea I was very intrigued. You really don’t see too many candy flavored whites. I’ve seen berries and fruit flavors for whites, but this is definitely the first toffee I’ve seen. I was curious how it would go.

And you know what? It works. The white base really gives a nice smoothness to the toffee flavoring. It’s delicious without sweetener, although I bet the flavors would pop even more if I added some sweetener or milk (which I didn’t). I drank this hot, but as it cools off, it’s nice as a cool tea too. Overall it’s a nice solid white tea that’s good for anyone, as long as they like toffee flavoring. It also makes a great desert tea, especially for people who are not fond of black base.

It’s like early Christmas! I feel like I’ve been on a sorta-tea-buying-hiatus for a while, and suddenly I’m getting samples and expecting packages and creating orders…. so exciting! Anyhow, my samples from Zen Tea arrived today, thank you! Although I wanted to try them all, I’m exhausted from a long day of work and only allowed myself to brew up one new tea requiring a review.

The dry leaves instantly reminded me of DavidsTea’s Checkmate, which I thought was quite interesting. Perhaps it’s something to do with the base tea? Either way, it would be awesome if it was that tasty!

Unfortunately, I oversteeped this one quite severely. However, I don’t think it really suffered, as astringency is still quite low. That said, something in this tea is tasting plasticky too me. Like, artificial flavouring. I can kind of taste a bit of toffee sweetness and nuttiness, but it’s overshadowed by this strange flavour. While it’s possible that it’s an artifact of my extended infusion, I suspect it’s more likely a flavouring issue. I have lots of tea left in the packet to sample, so I’ll give this another shot somewhere down the road!

Although I appreciate the chance to try this tea, I unfortunately don’t particularly care for it as I’m quite sensitive to artificial-tasting flavours :(

ETA: Damn, I am the only person to have a negative review here. I’ll definitely have to see if a shorter infusion as recommended makes a difference. For now, removing rating.

My Zen Tea order came in like, what, a week ago or something? But I kept putting off trying anything.

Dry, this smells like a pleasantly mild toffee. It has a drier scent to it in the background too.

First steep is pretty good. Like a watery toffee, quite inoffensive. It’s the second steep that’s really meh though, almost like cardboard. I think most of the flavouring was leached out the first time around and now I’m left with that dry tone I can smell in the background in the dry leaf.

It had a good start. I appreciate that it’s not overwhelmingly sweet, no crazy oil scum ring like you can get with some flavoured teas out there. Just wish the base was better, I think. I’m sure that’s the main problem here.

Finally getting around to trying this sample from Zen Tea. I am sorry it took me so long to try it! But I’m really thrilled to be trying it now.

This is really tasty. The white tea is soft and vegetative, reminding me a bit of the taste of the air around the hay and alfalfa fields after they’ve been cut. Sweet and green with notes of hay. The warmth of the hay really complements the flavor of the sweet toffee flavor in a very pleasant way.

A really lovely cup. My full-length review will be published on SororiTea Sisters on the 12th of November: http://sororiteasisters.com

So I’m thankful to zen tea for letting me try this one out. It’s got a nutty, creamy toffee flavour and I can see why people enjoy this. It’s just not for me. :) I really appreciate the sample and I’m glad I got the chance to try it, but its just not a tea flavour that appeals me even though its a nice tea. Leaving a rating off since I think this is more of a personal I don’t like the flavour than a “this is a bad tea” :)

Woot! all the family is gone! Life is mostly back to normal post wedding, I just have lots of cleaning and laundry to do! Oddly, the wedding gift I’m most excited for is the new vacuum and steam cleaner from my dad – he said for the vacuum the commercials showed it can suck itself onto the roof, Swwweeeet! I can retire the Roomba that gets stupider each time I use it.

Before that, I need to try a new tea to feel like things are normal. .

DRY: melty butter toffee smell, delicious! The toffee chunks are little cubes that seemed to of moved to the bottom of the bag – make sure you mix the bag before making a cup! Beautiful looking tea too! I love the blue flowers!

STEEPED: Slightly buttery sweet smell over gold coloured tea. Annoyingly my 2 toffee bits did not melt that much in my steeper. I cheated and after my steeper strained to my tea pot, I dug out the toffee and tossed it in. Sadly, at the end of my pot, they still aren’t fully dissolved.

TASTE: Nutty, smooth, creamy mouth up front, taste of crisp toffee, then delicious white tea. Slightly sweet as well. The nuttyness is great and natural tasting.. reminds me of walnuts I think. The toffee and nuttyness reminds me of those honeycomb kind of toffee, but very light and less artificial.

WHO SHOULD TRY THIS TEA: someone looking for a nice light dessert tea – especially if you like creamy/ nutty or tired of fruity white dessert teas.

COMMENTS: This is the last of the Zen Tea samples I have at the moment, and I gotta say this one is the best. The combination of flavors is nice, the nuttyness was very good – and I wasn’t excepting nutty as I thought it would just be basic sweet/cream over white tea. Very tasty Zen Tea!

Sipdown! I’m totally on a roll here for sipping down and finishing off teas!
Muhahahahaaaaaa!

This was a good cup, after I drank it my husband asked why I smelled like caramel and if he could have some. It was the tea! (he didn’t want any once he found out it was tea)

I think this is my first white tea ever! I liked this tea quite a bit, I love the creaminess it has. Its sweet but not overly sweet. Very nice :)

The dry blend smells of caramel and the liquor smells of my roommate’s Indonesian coffee candies (they taste vaguely like a TH double double). The taste is a combination of a watered down version of those coffee candies, nuts, and dry grass- like the grass that has gone golden and brittle after a long hot summer. Not that much toffee.

Edit- after trying to drink a pot of this tea, with the result of me dumping most of it, I guess I’m going to have to come to terms with the fact that I don’t like this one in the slightest. I feel awful about it. :(

I guess that flavour has it’s own appeal and place, but I don’t feel particularly won over by it. Thanks, Cavocorax, for the chance to try this!

Toffee. White tea. What could go wrong? not much! I’m liking this sample. Thanks to Kittenna/Sil for sharing!
Very smooth and intense on the caramel. I love that it’s so well balanced.
The second infusion wasn’t quite as tasty, a hair plasticky. Making me hesitant to try a third. But… I will gladly finish off the rest of the sample!

1.5 tablespoons for 375ml of water

Hazelnut aroma from brewed tea.

Coconut/nutty-like flavour on the sip. Mild nutty sweetness. Crisp celery flavour note which seems to come out of the nutty-ness. White tea taste compliments the flavour profile very well.

Thank you Indigobloom and Sil for sharing this with me!

got that one during the 50% off from Zen tea and finally received it today after thinking it was lost in the mail ( won’t let that change my note Zen tea can’t control the postal service after all and they where nice when answering my numerous email )

I don’t really like being with lot of people so holiday like Christmas are not really for me during this one i mostly stay in my cave with a thermos of hot water and some tea listening to ac/dc and playing online game my thermos get only 2 cup of water in it but well it’s better than nothing.

My first steep of that one was a failure not enough leaf probably the smell was really nice but the taste was not there so i won’t give my note from that one.

My second steep on the other hand was awesome i didn’t want to toss the tea without at least another steep but having spill some water not enough was left for a full cup the missing water was replace by some Southern comfort ( i think it’s some kind of spiced rhum with peach taste in it ) the peach from it as make all the flavor from my weak tea appear it’s not something i would do normally but meh it is the holiday after all it was a winning choice since it’s saved my tea so my note come from this steep for now till a try another normal steep

I’m with Sil on this one. I am incredibly grateful to Zen Tea for sending out such generous samples, but there is something about this tea that is just not jiving with me. I’m not sure why, as I normally enjoy dessert-y flavors. But right from the get go the smell was incredibly off putting to me, almost to the point of making me a little sick. I hoped it would brew into something I liked, but that wasn’t the case. I can’t drink it. Sorry :c If anyone would like the rest of my sample, I’d be happy to mail it to you.

Dry leaf
Lovely toffee scent, beautiful leaves, seems to be a good quality white peony. Lots of big whole leafs and buds. The blue cornflowers add a pretty touch.

Liquor
Lovely clear straw color, smells of toffee, no smell of white tea

Really nice toffee taste, sweet, nutty and rich. I regret drinking this for breakfast, I should have saved it for dessert! As I sip the white base comes through, which is nice I was worried the toffee was going to be overpowering based on the scent. Very very good! I’m a big fan of white tea and I can definitely see having this around. Now I just need to get my stash down a bit so I can justify buying it!

My thanks to Zen Tea for the sample.

Dry, this smells sweet, very toffee-y. Steeped it smells very similar, just less sweet.
This is lovely, but I am partial to white teas it seems. Tastes exactly as it’s described with a sweet toffee and nutty toasty flavor.

I had a few cups of this earlier, but no time to review. I just wanted to note that my cooled cup tasted good, so I should try this as an iced tea!

Drank a whole pot. Still a tired frazzled mess with a grumpy sick baby, but I’m a happy frazzled mess. :)

This has a light toffee taste and it’s super nutty. Good, but not essential.

My allergies are in full swing right now, so it will definitely be a stay in and enjoy the sunshine from the air conditioning kind of day. Sigh.

That being said, I hope to make the day better by sampling a bunch of tea!

So, thank you for letting me sample this one Shelley_Lorraine!

This is the first toffee flavored tea I’ve tried that actually captures toffee flavor to me. I get nutty toasted caramel on a slightly vegetal white base. I think the white base gives it a smoothness and sweetness that the black tea blends I’ve been trying seem to be lacking.

I enjoy the less full-bodiedness of this more than I thought I would for a dessert flavor. On the flip side, I think this is kind of an as-is blend, because I feel like milk and sugar might ruin the layers of flavor and make a giant cup of blech.

Thank you JennyFur for this sample!

I brewed a couple of cups of this tea for my husband and I during lunch. The dry leaves and brewed tea both smell delightfully of toffee. The taste, however, does not. I suppose it could be described as nutty, but a very flat flavorless nutty. I was really hoping for better with this one. I love both white tea and toffee. If only this blend tasted as good as it smells. Oh well. Glad I got to try it out though.

This is a really nice light and mellow tea, lil bit sweetish, and the 2nd steep is lovely, too. Thanks @cavocorax! K & I gobbled this up.

(*But I really don’t taste any toffee! Mostly kinda sweet grassy.)
