150 Tasting Notes

This is the second Chai I splurged on. I prefer this one to the Black Chai right now. It’s like a combination of Davids Tea Pure Chai and TAZO chai lattes. What would take it to the next level is if it had more spice to it. I find the chai I’ve tried so far by TWG have been slightly unbalanced. They have been spiced, but not spicey. I like a little bite in my chai. I’m not sure how to accomplish this in the tea but, it is a good candidate. One thing I need to do is brew these teas for less time. I will evaluate it next time I have it.

drank Chai Tea by Tetley

Sipdown!

Well I finally finished this tin of tea. I did like this chai and it’s a good option for the economical brand. I would probably buy this again if I was out and about and needed a chai or for the office.

For now though, so long Tetley Chai!

Sipdown!

This is a decent black tea blend. I had it straight today and brewed up the last of the sample I had from the advent calendar. While it does taste like blueberries, I don’t think I will be purchasing it. As I move away from Davids Tea teas and more towards better quality, higher end blends and straight teas.

drank Milk Oolong by TWG Tea Company
150 tasting notes

I had this tea upon visiting Urban Tea Merchant. I’d never had a milk oolong before, but I’ve seen enough tasting notes on various other bands to see that there is something special about it.

I only had the first steeping, but it was smooth. So smooth! I got the creamy taste as well. It goes down easily and isn’t overly powerful or fragrant. When you smell the dried version, it smells of kind of a sweet and sour milk, not buttermilk necessarily, but maybe something you might smell while enjoying bubble tea? Maybe condensed milk?

I enjoyed it and it’s going on my wishlist. If anyone has any brands of milk tea they would recommend please let me know.

drank Vanilla Orchid by DAVIDsTEA
150 tasting notes

Another tea that I was introduced to as part of the Davids Tea advent calendar. I must not have added it to the cupboard though. Or reviewed it.

I steeped this tea twice, didn’t get to the 3rd one. I’m pretty new to the whole oolong thing. but I did enjoy the tea. Sort of a cross between green and black.

I smell and taste vanilla and that’s about all, I don’t get the creamy flavour people are describing. I had a taste of a milk oolong yesterday and that was more smooth and creamy.

drank Black Chai by TWG Tea Company
150 tasting notes

The quest for Black Chai tea continues.

Bought this along with two other TWG teas yesterday when I was downtown. I steeped this too long and it was bitter and astringent. The ginger really comes through though. This is definitely a tea that is better with milk and sugar to enhance the spices that are in the blend. Right now it’s not on their website because it’s a new tea so I can’t even get the info on it. I will give a better review of this tea when I steep it properly.

At first sniff it smells like ginger, with spices in the background. I am not getting that sweet, spicy smell that I usually like in a chai. I’m not going to lie, I didn’t buy this based on smell when I was in the store. They made me a sample of it and I didn’t mind the taste of it (it was served straight, so not my usual preference for black tea.)

It has promise!

drank Earl Grey by English Tea Shop

Had another cup of this this morning. This is a very good EG. I might go buy another tin of it because I think I might go through this 85g quickly.

Recommended. If you see it, buy it!

drank Coco Chai Rooibos by DAVIDsTEA
150 tasting notes

Now that some rainy weather has set in, I’m pretty much in fall mode and gearing for the nice cold nights by the fire… (did I mention I am a fall girl??)

Cozied up with a pot of this. This was graciously donated to me from someone else. They were mislead by the name and thought coco meant chocolate, but really it’s coconut. I wish it was a bit more spicy.

When you smell this, you get the sweet coconut smell right off the hop. It then blends with the other spices like the cardamom. Nothing else really sticks out right away.

When it’s brewed, it’s a light rooibus, even when brewed for a longer period of time. Immediately you smell the coconut (like the candied coconut you can buy at Costco.) Again, you don’t really smell the other notes, they kind of blend in.

I do like the taste of it, but I wish it was more spicy. I like spicy chai. I will echo that it is a good herbal chai blend though, for those days or nights where you don’t feel like a black tea pick me up. It’s still pretty cozy none the less. I probably won’t re-order it when this little bag runs out. I don’t like that it has artificial flavouring… trying to stick with teas that are naturally flavoured.

Second attempt with this tea. This time steeped for much shorter time and also under leafed. It was much nicer. A very classy English Breakfast. I didn’t have it with milk and sugar, but did have it with coconut coffee creamer.

I enjoyed my cups :)

Trying to finish up some of the samples I received from Davids Tea avec the 24 days of tea calendar.

This was one I had been rationing. A very good cinnamon tea. Cinnamon is the prominent flavour, but I can pick up on the cloves as well. Most of the other smells and ingredients blend into the background.

I rated this tea quite low last time, but I think that’s because it is kind of one dimensional. It tastes like a Valentines Cinnamon heart candy. I like it, but I don’t know if I would keep it in my stash.

It was lovely to drink last night when I didn’t want caffeine though. I am bumping up the rating a few notches from 67 to 70.

My passion for tea started at a very young age, thanks to my grandmothers beautiful china tea cup collection. I use to brew Tetley’s or whatever version of Orange Pekoe she had in the cupboard and pick out my favourite tea cup to use. It wasn’t until I was in my late teens that I really started to develop a passion for it. My town had the Urban Tea Merchant and it was there I was exposed to high tea and the very fancy Mariage Freres brand. When they switched over to The O Dor, my girlfriend and I found salvation in going for a lovely cup of tea and decompress with some tea scones.

It has since become an obsession. I have a tea cupboard, filled with a very large variety of teas. I also use the Breville Tea Maker to make my tea. I favour black teas, with a close second being North African Mint Green Tea. Because I have the luxury of working from home, I get to enjoy a wonderful cup of tea every morning, and the journey resets daily.
