2291 Tasting Notes
I made my unknown matcha blend as a latte this morning. I added some hot water to the matcha powder and whisked it rather poorly. Then I added cold almond milk, a little sugar syrup, and ice. Yum. I really like matcha this way, especially the ones of unknown quality I pick up randomly at Asian supermarkets. :)
Oh, and weirdly my “Likes” are disappearing. :( I can’t keep track of the ones I’ve read and haven’t read. So sorry to the people who might be getting multiple notifications that I’ve liked their tealogs!
Preparation
I’ve been moving from my phone to my computer and back to my phone. No spinning thing, just hearts disappearing. Oh well.
It’s green, it’s a little tiny wee bit smoky, and… I don’t think I really like darjeelings.
I can’t deny that it smells good in the package. It’s like an expensive tea perfume, one that doesn’t have perfumy alcohol notes or added fragrances. Green fields, a campfire off in the distance, the smell of deciduous forest. There are some flowers and fruit in there, but the green fields are prominent.
The taste, however? Not for me. (This time I’m having it in a tea cup. I think I had it in a travel mug last time.)
Preparation
No! :( I had preloaded my card but had to order some hiking stuff. Still waitin for the family to pay me back.
I’ve only had one pure darjeeling and I felt the same way about it. And I can’t wait for the sale!!!
Now I have 4 really nice darjeelings that just aren’t for me to drink up. Heh. Or maybe I’ll try an alcohol extraction and an oil extraction to see about making a perfume type thing…
Yeah, that was me too. I was super excited to try out darjeelings, but just found they’re totally not for me either. I can appreciate that the ones I tried were good teas, just not my taste is all.
I can’t justify more tea right now, especially from Butiki, but that probably won’t matter tomorrow. The only thing that will protect my bank account now is a severe power outage.
What I really really really want is Birthday Cake. And that strawberry-toffee dragonwell, whatever it’s called. Om nom nom.
I’ve noticed that Darjeelings are really not for everyone.
OMGsrsly-The Birthday Cake would be purchasable tomorrow, just purchase something of equal value and let me know to swap it out. Here are the prices: 10 grams (19 servings) $3.50
20 grams (38 servings) $6.50
40 grams (76 servings) $12.00
80 grams (152 servings) $19.75
I don’t know why this one wasn’t in my cupboard, but it was, and I drank it.
I went hiking this weekend. 7+k in, 10:30pm-1:00am via headlamps. A cold sleep, woken by lots of mosquitoes biting my face (OMG! I need a tent, not just a tarp!). A long walk up to a lake (5k there, 500+m elevation gain), and back. I slept in the cabin that night. Then I lazed around the campsite while some others bushwhacked up a ridge, then back down. One guy ran the ridge and came down the trail from the lakes. Amazingly fast.
Then the ~7.5k down to the car, dinner in town, then a long drive home.
Ultimately, it was successful. I found out where the holes are in my gear, and what I desperately need to remember next time (antihistamines! bug spray!). The bug netting for over my hat was the BEST thing I’ve purchased all year.
I drank this tea with honey in the mornings. It was delicious, even though it was hard to drink through the bug net. Next time I’ll get brave and actually take loose leaf tea and a strainer. :D
Yeah, my parents have decided we’re doing (as a family!) a 60k, 6 day hike this fall. I’m trying to train up for it. Trail ‘running’ (aka jogging slower than some of the little old ladies I see, with walking breaks), day hiking with a full pack, trying to get out almost every weekend… So far it’s going well.
Robust, from CrowKettle I.. think this is what I had this morning. Shaken with almond milk, ice, and a little sugar syrup. It was sweet and delicious. The flavour isn’t a strong one, but I like it. I’d probably go for a lighter flavour level, just because I prefer to put a lot of matcha into my drinks, but I don’t want any metallic “flavouring” taste.
This morning I had coffee, and there’s not really any place to brew tea in the area I work (no really, it’s a 5 minute walk to the filtered water and nice kettle), so I went for bubble tea.
Lemon “red” tea with lemon jelly.
Yummers. I usually get stuff 1/2 sweet when I get jelly or tapioca, as the additives tend to be rather sweet. I didn’t, but it’s still good. Super strong tea, fresh lemon juice, chewy lemon jelly, yay!
I need to find a recipe for the flavoured jellies so I can make them and add them to my iced teas at home. So good.
i LOVE bubble tea…. tapioca balls included. everybody thinks i’m nuts. who doesn’t like a beverage that’s also a meal???
Thanks to Cavocorax and, I think, Sil for this sample.
This tea is definitely a puerh. As soon as the hot water hits the leaves, there’s this delightful bready scent.
(Blah blah blah…)
I really like this one. It’s not bread as the texture is liquid, but the flavour is delicious. The rest of the sample is going to Heather, but I kinda wish I could keep it. Anyone with a Tea Mule planning on doing a sTEAp order? :)
(Edit: I’m drinking steep 2 today in my travel mug, and it’s delightful.)
Omg I don’t need to place an order anytime soon but I will try and keep you in mind when I do refill mine :)
Yay! That’d be awesome, Sil. I seem to love cinnamon and puerh together – my other favourite is Silk Road’s Golden Phoenix.
This one seems intriguing (especially since everyone seems to like it so much) but I’m scared of it since it’s pu-erh. xD
This tea! This tea keeps popping up everywhere – and with such high reviews, too! I suppose I should cave and just place an order now… :)
It’s a bready/yeasty Puerh with cinnamon, though! Really a good combination. :) the shop has been on my radar for a few months, but I have to order through someone in the states, due to shipping. I’m so glad I got to try this one!
if you’re thinking about ordering other teas from the steap shoppe at the same time as the cinnamon swirl bread i’d read the reviews for the others just to get a sense of whether you’ll like them or not. some of them are very similar from one to the next.
My browser crashed, and I lost my note. :(
Suffice to say, I wish I was rich and could get 4oz of this tea. It’s SO good. Honey, delicious, amazing goodness.
If it’s still around when I make my next order, I’m getting another sample pack. Because OMG. This is srsly tasty. ;)
Preparation
Hmmm, I have 44 Harney teas on shelf right now. Can I justify making it 45? This is one if the few I have not tried!
Boo…. Why do the really delicious plain teas always have to be so expensive? Now, granted, that’s maybe 2 weeks of my former coffee budget…
