this is delicious. this tea is my first time ever having mate, but after sipping it on my commute to school, it certainly won’t be the last. I am convinced to buy more after this sample runs out!

So Adagio suggested 150F but that seemed a bit low, plus the zojirushi has 140 and 175, so I just went with 175. ANYWAY.

I’ve been avoiding this sampler but I think it’s time to give it a try again and play with the brewing. This one is pretty good, nice toasty flavor. Not a whole lot of the chocolate that the description says should be there. Some sort of nut flavor is there, not sure which though! I really do need to try teas straight before I try the flavors. Oh well, tasty in any case. :)

This is totally growing on me. It’s now on the shopping list.

Mmmm toasty. One of my favorite flavored mates I’ve had (granted, it’s only a few). I don’t know, something about this just hits the spot. It’s warm and nutty and just makes me feel good. Glad I finally ordered more of this, definitely need the energy boost today.

I ordered this because… well, because it sounded yummy. It also sounded a lot like a tisane I developed a few years ago (my Almond Mocha Mate) and I miss it, so rather than blend a batch of my recipe (which I really didn’t want to do), I wanted to see if I could find something that is an adequate substitute.

This is really good. It is similar to my Almond Mocha Mate but where there was almond flavor there, there is a hazelnut flavor here, which is actually kind of nice. It’d be better with a little more chocolate-y flavor though. But then… everything is better with a little more chocolate.

Thanks again to MadelineAlyce for swapping with me!

Wow this one is brisk. I’ve been using that work a lot lately, but I keep picking strong morning teas I guess haha. I made this this morning on my LASTDAYOFWORK, ahhh. It was an awesome way to get through the day!

The mate bits are a lot smaller than I expected! So after a messy time with my strainer thing, I just used a tea-sac for the rest of it. Problem solved. :)

It brew up a little murky, but it was just the mate getting naughty with the water. Delicious chocolate flavour, and the SMELL – ahh I would choose this over coffee any day, but to be honest even the taste reminded me of a flavoured coffee! Not a bad thing at all.

The chicory proved a little too strong for me to try this one again, but I greatly enjoyed the 3 cups+resteeps I had with this tea. Thanks!!

150 degrees? Oops. I didn’t realize that it was supposed to be steeped at such a low temperature until I came here to review and read the other reviews.

Picked this up at Adagio’s birthday celebration because it smelled so wonderful in the jar. Mate has been wonderful for me in preventing my migraines so I drink it when I know I might be prone to one but so far I’ve only found one that I liked enough to be my go-to mate. I brewed this the same way I brew that one and it didn’t turn out any worse for the wear. This is certainly nutty and toasty but I’m missing the chocolate notes. I don’t mind the missing chocolate but I certainly wouldn’t mind if it was there either.

This tea is yummy, chocolate or not.

“Mmmm, chocolate…” is my first thought when I opened the package. It’s not just chocolate though, there’s a richer, nutty scent as well. I’m glad that there was no actual coffee involved in the making of this tea because my stomach is quite sensitive to it. It doesn’t quite taste like mocha either, more like Nutella in diluted liquid form or something. I’m also not getting that distinct herbal flavour that I get with green mate so i think going with the roasted version for this blend was a good move.

This tea could easily become addictive, I fear. ;)

The yerba mate leaves are quite fine, the sort of caliber you’d usually kind in your generic teabags. Interestingly the smaller leave sizes doesn’t seem to increase the drink’s bitterness as is often the case with actual tea. The leaves do have nice staying power though, keeping their flavour through several steeps.

I don’t normally add anything to yerba mate, but I was feeling adventurous today, plus this seemed like it would be a good tea for it. I found that it brings out the mocha flavours more and gives the drink a slightly more pronounced coffee taste rather than the chocolatey flavour I get when I drink this tea without milk. There’s not so much of a nutty flavour either, I’m noticing.

So…
150 degrees!?! 3-5 minutes?!? What?!? it’s an herbal!?! surely… adagio you jest and have lost your mind! This is going to be like how I hate your black tea steeping suggestions isn’t it…
Nope… it’s really good! I was expecting it to be weak. It’s not… It has chocolate and hazelnut and both flavors are strong.
Oddly for me no complaints so far… When I have one I’ll post.

YUM

I take it all back… many many cups later I think I’ve either grown apart from this one or the freshness of the batch does not last long but now I despise everything about this tea and would like to stab all of the flecks with many small knives.

It now reminds me of drinking a nickle. Like a five cent nickle.

This is a fairly good tea. It is a mild tea with a nice cocoa flavor to it. It doesn’t need any milk or sugar, though I will try it next time I make this. Great breakfast tea! I wish it had more caffeine in it to keep me going :)

This is a backlog of when I finished this tea up. This was a nice tisane with milk and sugar. This is an okay mate, and it definitely wasn’t the best I’ve tried.

Thanks LiberTEAs!
Nutty – yes!
Mocha – Yes!
Chocolate – not so much, but I can taste slight hints, I suppose…it’s more in the aroma tho
fairly smooth aftertaste.
Not bad but not overly flavorful. It’s more nutty than chocolately or your stereotypical Mate.

Nice bold, nutty flavor. Chocolate taste is subtle. With a bit of sweet cream, it’s absolutely delightful.

Wow, this smells delicious! So nutty and smooth.
The scent brewed is very chocolaty with hazelnut also being a very strong scent – it actually kind of reminds me of nutella.
The yerba mate keeps it from tasting heavy – it still has the grassy hay like flavours. The flavours that I had scented are more in the background, they just make it very smooth. It actually overall has a very light nearly mineral flavour.

What a yummy tea. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about a mocha flavored tea. It came in my Adagio Mate Sample pack, so I gave it a try. I really enjoy it. It stands in for coffee. I’ve never been a black coffee drinker (unfortunately I go for the calorie-laden Starbucks drinks). I’m not going to pretend it’s anything like that. But it’s doesn’t purport to be. It’s good of it’s own accord! A mellow twist on a morning cup of joe.

I’ve been trying (successfully!) to cut back on (Starbucks) coffee for all the obvious reasons. I’ll never say I won’t have a cup from time to time, but this will make my quest to cut it from my daily routine quite a lot easier.

I think this may be a regular morning cup of tea for me. It’s so mild that it still has the relaxing “feel” of tea. But the coffee-esque notes and the brisk mate quality give you that pep in your step feeling. I quite like it.

The leaves are certainly nothing of beauty to the eye, like so many teas (imo) but I’m perfectly OK with that!

AND yesterday my teen daughter (coffee hater) said “Mom, what is in the tea basket?” I apologized for failing to warn her, but as it turns out, she liked it too. I’ll have to get more scoop to see how well, as we did give it much discussion from there, but I was suprised.

As a side note, we tend to rebrew our tea baskets. I’ve found with our Teavana teas, we get a good 4-6 brews (for a mug, so 4-6 mugs) for a single basket (prepared per the package directives). We do tend to steep a little longer on those last couple of cups, but manage to get quite a lot from each serving.

I’m not yet sure if this particular tea will last that long. I’m on cup three now and we’re still going strong, so I suspect it will. My other Adagio teas are hit or miss in this regard. Some getting as few as 2-3 cups (e.g., chamomile)(the greens seem to keep on giving).

Happy Saturday TeaMates. So long!

Magnificent! I am thoroughly impressed by this tea. It is a delicious blend of hazelnut with chocolate undertones that complement versus overpower the taste. PLUS, it’s got this great toasted flavor. I love my genmaichas so any tea with the toasted flavor I am a huge fan of. I may have to get some more of this one since my precious sample is quickly running out!

I like my mates a bit strong so I used 1.5 tsp/8oz. I was surprised that it turned out as good as it did given that the temperature is suggested to be 150F, whereas other mates have called for boiling water.

This tea is very elusive for me. The first two steeps were a mess of epic proportions. This did not do well (at all!) in my tea ball. Mostly because it did not seem to let the chocolate bits melt well and this tisane is incredibly fine, so tea ball or not this was determined to fly around my glass. The temperature also has to be closely watched. I steeped this at too high of a temperature and really kills the flavor.
On to my first “successful” cup, it was just ok. I think what this lacks is a notable chocolate flavor. It smells of chocolate, but the flavor is just not there. I’m half tempted to throw chocolate in there, just to see if it’d help! It’s pretty much one dimensional in the flavor department. It’s very roasted tasting and the nut flavor is really there. I can’t tell if I could drink this on a daily basis, but the smell keeps calling me back. Overall, I’d say I would stick to the sample size. I’m starting to think that mate tisanes are just not my thing.

This is yet another Adagio tea that I have been neglecting to drink. I got a sample of this tea last year. I always disliked steeping it because the leaf is so so small! My solution to the steep problem has been to use Teavana tea bags. They solved the mess quickly and I will have to remember it for future steeps. This tea has a great price tag ($6/3oz).
I’m actually really anticipating upping the rating on this because I think that as I have tried more tea that the nuances of this will be more appreciated.
mmmm I think this is much better than other times I have brewed it. Why have I been neglecting this tea?! Very tasty with lots of different nut notes. The chocolate is there, but in the form I like it most: not overly chocolate oil. I steeped for 5min and I think that this was the perfect timing for my taste buds.

Nice full-bodied coffee/mocha analogue. The hazelnut is most prominent in the fragrance and in the aftertaste. Added almond milk. I imagine it’d be great extracted a bit stronger and with fresh whipped cream. For those looking for comparisons with similar mate’s, this is more coffee/mocha-like than Teavana’s Morning Mate or Matevana, but less so than Guayaki’s Vanilla Nut Mate and Mocha Macha. To me, those Teavana blends don’t have as satisfying or well-rounded a flavor profile.

The first time I tried this tea, I didn’t much care for it. I’m not usually a fan of sweeter teas and the aroma was a bit too much for me at first. However, the more I try it, the more I enjoy it. It’s really grown on me, as it has a nice roasted flavor that does a good job of mimicking coffee notes, and the sweetness is actually quite mild. I like to steep it a little on the hotter side, as I like a hint of bitterness to complement the sweeter mocha flavor.

nice surprise with my first try of this roasted mate blend, although the chocolate/nutty smell is much more stronger than the actual flavor

It’s actually kind of strange: this tea tastes like coffee! If you like coffee, give it a try. It’s naturally bitter (not just from the steeping process), so be warned.

This tea tastes like coffee! Peculiar. I actually kind of like it. Very naturally bitter, and so it does not need to steep too long.

I’ve had this many times, but I’m going to be more controlled about it this time. Still though, it seems to be a similar taste no matter how I brew it: nutty, with a mild chocolately taste. It’s become my standby morning drink, but sometimes I wish the chocolate shone through more.

I have to admit that I am a big Starbucks fan. I love my lattes! I was shocked how similar it tasted to a latte after a splash of almond milk and sugar. I think this is perfect for someone transitioning from coffee to teas/tisanes. This is a definite repeat purchase!
