(DavidsTea 2022: 5)
We are back in “self-isolation” after a sudden fever in my toddler on Saturday night. He was fine the next morning, but the lovely new rules and lack of testing availability in Ontario mean we have to assume it was covid. Really cramping my plans of easing into one-parent mat leave (husband went back to work last week) when we can’t access my planned outside help (grandparent, daycare). Frustrating! Been starting my 2-kid days of isolation with matcha “lattes” (just made with half water/half milk, no fancy frothing) in an attempt to have enough energy. I’m not sure it’s working, but that could be related to lack of sleep and recovering from sickness. Also, my toddler is obsessed with colour-changing mugs, so this kills two birds with one stone as I get a hit of caffeine + entertain him for a few minutes!
Anyhow, this was one matcha latte in a long line to come, most of which haven’t been quite as satisfying as I want but were fine. I want this to be more BERRIES, especially since I’m kind of taking care of the cream aspect with the milk. It’s fine, but I just want more.

Oh, I hadn’t reviewed this yet? Oops. It’s definitely a yummy matcha – had it as a latte (ok, more like half water/half milk, no foam because that’s too much work) and it’s creamy, sweet, and berry-flavoured; pretty much what you’d expect. Glad I pulled it out!
Despite my complaints about DT’s generous and frequent use of stevia and so on, one thing that I really like is that I am able to buy 10 grams of any tea. Another thing that worked for me is that there was a DT’s shop in every single direction, in each regular stomping ground, from where I live.
COVId changed that. All DT’s shops closed and the one that remains is in a large shopping mall that I avoid like the plague. So my casual drop-ins for tastings and random small and big purchases have ended, at least for now. Who knows what the future holds for DT’s reopenings?
I still have a number of these 10 gram bags hanging around from various splurges. Given that often DT’s uses massive amounts of fruit and such additives with little leaf, 10 grams is a good amount to try something out.
So I used the full 10 grams in this cup. The leaf was full of fruit and spice, not much tea.
But wow! Really nice! Exactly like gluhwein—is that the spelling?
Tons of fruit spice and the flavour of a rich full-bodied red. I was pleasantly surprised. This one absolutely is a winner. Resteeps were good too.
Two things though. 10 grams is a lot for a decent cup of tea. Am I really going to buy 50 (expensive) grams when it only makes five cups? Madness.
And my pattern of picking up small amounts and leaving them hanging around means that, by the time I try it and like it, the tea has long ago been taken off DT’s wall board and been retired. I don’t know whether this one is still available. If so, I might pick up a bit from time to time.
It is delicious even though it confuses the taste buds, switching my tea to spiced wine. The execution of this one was excellent.
It really was. Every time a new set of teas would come out, I’d pass by and pick up some of the more tempting ones. And some extra something or other because there I was.
I envision the 10gram samples hanging off spinning racks in every Davids store…. but probably not. haha (never had a Davids around here…)
They do/did have premeasured packaged teas for sale in maybe 25 gram and larger sizes, but they have a wall with all their tins with a part that you could sniff the leaf. They also have/had three premade teas daily that you could sample. But you can/could buy any amount of leaf by weight. 10 grams minimum.
I put off ordering this one for a long time because it didn’t sound like my sort of thing, but it was super cheap, so I threw a bag in my most recent order. I’m glad I did! The flavor is mostly a refreshing coconut and pineapple. It’s pretty pleasant cold. It’s light and tasty, and the cold resteep is flavorful too. It’s simple, but good.
I don’t know what possessed me to buy this tea; obviously I was in an experimental mood when I bought it a few months ago. I tried it before and didn’t like it. I still don’t.
I did not see in the small print on the website that this tea contains Stevia. Stevia gives food a sharp metallic taste for me and makes my tongue burn. I also note (like other reviewers) that this tea is very sweet. Sweet in a chemical way.
I tried to drink the whole cup as I had put oat milk and collagen powder in it (a neutral), but I couldn’t stand it. The package goes into the garbage.
Don’t buy.

Iced Tea!
I usually drink this one hot because I find it’s a subtle and gentle enough blend to strike a really perfect balance of being flavourful but still soothing. So, I was marginally taken aback when I found this iced tea so particularly saturated tasting. I mean, not the level of some other DT blends like say Strawberry Rhubarb Parfait – but just much more than I’m personally used to with this tea. More distinctly orange tasting too. I mean, it always tastes like orange to me but I thought this infusion in particular was orange first and then everything else. Still liked it, though!
Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. New(ish) tea!
This one has technically been out for a little while now as its in some of the Winter subscription boxes – I’m just slow to taking the time to write about it.
Personally I really enjoy this tea, and have since my first time tasting it. There’s a fair amount going on in terms of ingredients – sea buckthorn, lingonberry, and a medley of other fruits as well. However, despite that I find the taste quite simple and calm. It’s majority generic red fruit but with a slight citrusy edge to it – but I think what, at least for me, sets it apart from most red fruit teas and tisanes is that it’s pretty gentle/soft in terms of flavour and there’s no hibiscus either.
I think DT has a lot of really nice “red fruit” herbal blends. Certainly some favourites of my own include Hibiscus Splash and Frozen Raspberry. However, despite liking these teas a lot I often find them very intense or rich/heavy handed and they aren’t something I would personally reach for on consecutive days or back to back; it’s just a bit much. However, this tea manages to capture those fruity flavours I love while because gentle and unsweet enough to not give me flavour fatigue. For that reason, it’s become something I enjoy a lot late at night after a day of heavy flavoured tea drinking because I still get my flavour fix but it’s not super intense.
The name of the blend mostly comes from being a nod to the lingonberry used, but I also like to think of it as a cheeky nod to Swedish Berry candies because I do find it to be like a more natural and soothing less “candy sweet” version of a Swedish Berry in taste. I guess it works on multiple levels, because lingonberries are Swedish as well!

2022 Sipdowns 170&171/365!
Sipped down two packets of this. Turns out I’m really liking eggnog matcha this year, wish I’d picked up more when it was on clearance in the spring. It’s lightly spiced, kind of custardy, and really great as a latte. Sugar Cookie isn’t as good.

I had a most delicious latte of this the other day while on a walk. It was fairly strong, and the “eggnog” flavouring really popped (not tasting like classic eggnog of course, but that eggy/creamy flavouring they decided to call eggnog). Really tasty, do not regret the amount of this matcha I have purchased, heh.

2022 Sipdown 74/365!
E is for… Eggnog Matcha!
Drank this both on “D” day and today, which did not end up being “E” day after all as I just didn’t have the time to make tea today (and bonus, I have a (small but painful) canker sore on the tip of my tongue somehow, and it seriously diminishes my desire to drink/eat/speak).
I definitely enjoy this more when just thinking of it as a bit of a spiced custard tea. The spicing just does not scream eggnog to me, but the custardy flavour is good.
(DavidsTea 2022: already recorded)
Used two heaping teaspoons (like, regular usage teaspoons not the actual measuring device) in a large travel mug and it was quite a nice treat today. Very creamy and I do like the flavour, I just object to it being labelled eggnog. Hahaha.
(DavidsTea 187)
Went a little crazy and bought a lot of this expecting to love it – it’s not quite what I was expecting (it doesn’t quite ring true to eggnog for me for some reason) but I do like it. I just sniffed the packet again, and I’m almost thinking that it smells like… cheesecake matcha?? With some clovey spicing? I’ll have to think more on that.
The first time I had ever tried an aloe tea was another one of the David’s Tea blends and I was surprised at how much I loved it. So when I saw this tea I just had to try it and I am so glad i did. With the refreshing Aloe and the tartness of the dragonfruit make this an absolute joy to drink and I cannot wait to make this an iced tea in the summer
Sipdown!
This tea was included in a Tea for Everyone sampler I was gifted a few years ago; I’m trying to finish up some teas to justify a few online orders for the holidays, so I used the last of this one this morning.
Dry, this tea does smell pleasant (if generically) fruity — I’m not sure I’d identify the fruitiness as passionfruit; I might guess peach? Steeped, the fruitiness isn’t terribly strong, but nor is the green tea — the whole cup is a bit weak and underwhelming, and I don’t get the passionfruit at all. I wouldn’t really mind, but there’s an odd aftertaste that shows up after each swallow, something plasticky and unpleasant. On the plus side, I don’t taste the stevia, which I typically notice and dislike in blends like this!
Anyway… not a big fan; won’t restock.
I haven’t had this one in a long while, but one of my friends came through town and spent a couple days before visiting her parents (the first big drive I had in my NEW CAR (actually my first car)) in the Okanagan. She got me this tea and a hedgehog mug.
The mug is cute, but in true DT fashion the print is already peeling. I only hand wash, so that’s still a disappointing quality issue.
This tea is so so so sweet. Lol. Not surprising. Sweet candy mango melon taste, with some woodiness from the rooibos. Not bad, and something I’ll enjoy finishing, but not something I’d go out of my way to get.
Hope everyone is doing well. I logged in again as my random password had a security issue and I had to change it. So if you haven’t changed your password you might want to…
Good to see you!
I keep getting bumped out of the site, both here and on fb. Who knows what’s going on.
Well, I’m back for some definition of back. I’ll probably pop on here every once in a while, especially as I prepare for my comps and try to finish my final project. Procrastination is the key to good work, right? ;)
Procrastination can be mulling over time, consolidating necessary information. Break a leg on your work!
Hope your toddler feels better soon! Being sick or having sick family members is never fun and the self-isolation is an extra blow.
Thanks! He seems to be ok although his appetite is kind of small (sore throat??) but the isolation reaaalllly sucks. I have more empathy for people who’ve had to do it in the past, for sure.
Hope all this gets a bit lighter for you soon, Kittena.
Thank heavens for tea.
We are doing something similar. The 9yr old was exposed in class and sniffly 2 days later, so the school presumes a positive and with 3 positives the class goes into remote learning for a week. The district has no guidance on what they want done with siblings of presumed positive kids, so the 12yr old is home this week too with nothing to do. Pandemic parenting is the best! :/
Hang in there! My friend’s husband traveled to another state on a fishing trip with his dad for two weeks. I was supposed to stay with her and help watch her kids. Unfortunately, they got Covid from some other kids at school right when it opened again around November. She was on her own with both kids while also working which wasn’t easy but she was vaccinated.
