From DAVIDsTEA

There’s nothing more nostalgic than a coconut macaroon. We’re not talking about the super-trendy French cookies here…for us, it’s all about the bake sale classic: chewy, golden coconut cookies dipped in rich dark chocolate. And with black tea, toasted coconut, cacao nibs, pecans and rock sugar, this rich, nutty blend is just as good as the real thing. The only difference? You don’t have to wait for a bake sale to get a taste.

Ingredients: Black tea, toasted coconut, coconut, pecans, cacao nibs, rock cane sugar, natural flavouring.
Contains pecans and coconut.

Had this iced in-store today, and was surprised at how sweet it was with zero additions. Yep, there’s way too much (and I had it unsweetened — there’s a LOT of sugar in there).

So, with that in mind? It’s a decent tea. Reminded me a lot of Chocolate Orange (a puerh blend from DAVIDs), but with coconut for added creaminess instead of orange. I liked it. Not enough to buy it.

You were smart, trying it in the store first

Wow, this is sweet, REAL sweet, and I like sweet, but this may be way too sweet for even me! As warned by another reviewer and the fact that the ingredients list includes rock sugar, I didn’t sweeten, but added a splash of almond milk, and it’s really freaking sweet! Usually that’s a good thing, but I think I would have preferred to be able to sweeten it to my liking. The sweetness kind of takes away the flavors that you expect from the delicious smell, which is a tragedy.

I think DavidsTea needs to stay away from the rock sugar. Glad I only bought an ounce of this one. It could have been so much better! So bummed!

ohfancythat

Soooooo sweet. :/
I can only imagine how delicious it could have been if they’d let us decide for ourselves how much sugar it needed (if any)

Tealizzy

Ya, no kidding! My coworker said hers wasn’t too sweet, so maybe the portion of leaf she used had less sugar in it? IDK.

ohfancythat

Or maybe she has more of a sweet tooth?

Tealizzy

Maybe, but it’s hard to beat my sweet tooth! Ha!

On my first try of this tea, I was REALLY unsure. I mean, it smelt delicious, but in a way I thought it was too sweet. After steeping it at home and adjusting amounts, however, I find that this tea is pretty much as magical as Cookie Dough (which I’m still mourning).
Like other reviewers have mentioned, the base on this one is very light. In a way this makes sense – it allows that chocolate/coconut-y/nuttiness to come through very strongly. There is rock sugar in the blend, so I recommend not sweetening it (DT lists the calorie content at 10kcal per cup, so it’s not loaded and certainly no worse than my other chocolatey favourites, Red Velvet Cake and Read my Lips). For some of you, this will be a fantastic replacement for Stormy Night.
When I’m really feeling like a sweet treat, this one makes a fantastic latte as well.

This is a perfectly acceptable chocolate and coconut tea. A bit thin, although I think that can be remedied with a bit more cream. The addition of rock sugar makes this fairly sweet, although you know I couldn’t resist adding a touch more “just in case”. You can still taste the black tea base underneath the nutty chocolate and coconut, although I wonder what would happen if I brewed this for slightly longer (I’d say this steeped for about four and a half minutes in total).

Overall, a good cup. I can especially envision enjoying it in the winter.

Got this as a TTG after work today, as I popped in to se the new collection. I opted to try this and got 12g of the starfruit one…the name escapes me. Shooting Star? Is that it?

Anyway, with this one, I definitely get chocolate and nut, mainly coconut. This is pretty tasty. There is a slightly weird aftertaste though, and I’m not sure if it is the milk or the tea. It is something I might pick 15-20g of up to play with some more.

I’m not usually a chocolate tea drinker but I actually greatly enjoy this tea. It tastes almost like hazelnut chocolate with hints of coconut after it has been steeped. Overall I’m impressed with how good it is and how much I like it!

Sipdown!

Finished the last bit of this this morning. I didn’t like it at first, because I thought it was bland and boring, and then I added milk. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! It is truly like drinking a liquid macaroon. For those who thought this was too sweet, I can see where you are coming from, but I think it needs it. Kind of want to buy more, but I have to control myself. Just ordered 50$ worth of tea yesterday, am going to DT this weekend to buy more (probably another 30$) and then I have two swaps to ship out next week, so another 20-30$.

I really have to stop spending so much money on tea. It’s a bit embarassing, and I feel so guilty! Why do I feel guilty?? It’s my money, and all my bills are payed on time, so it’s not like I’m in trouble or anything. Gawh, I hate this feeling.

Uh?

Well, i haven’t purchased any tea from Davidstea in FOREVER, because I’m trying to sipdown what I have and make room for new and exciting teas, like more Butiki, and possibly some Dammann Freres at some point, and definitely a big ass, expensive Mariage Freres order that I am saving up for.

But, when I heard about this one I knew I’d seek it out next time I hit the mall. Which was immediately after it was released, conveniently enough.

So I asked to sniff it, and based on the delicious smell, I bought the 50gr bag.

Perhaps I should have had a cup made to go before purchasing, because I think 25 gr would have sufficed.

It is very dessert like. I don’t mind DT’s chocolate flavoring so that’s all good….I can taste the coconuts and pecans, so that’s great….but I’m wondering if maybe I’m not interested in having rock sugar in my tea??

After a few sips I had to go look at the ingredients listed on the bag because I was getting a really odd fake sort of sweetness, so I wondered if there was stevia or something in it. I know stevia is natural but it’s not sugar, so it has a taste.

But this is apparently just sweetened with rock sugar. Although the ingredients also list “natural flavoring”, whatever that means.

It’s possible that I simply find this too sweet because I no longer sweeten 99% of my teas! or my coffee for that matter, so I guess it wouldn’t be odd if I really noticed the addition of sugar. But I swear there was something else going on!

I guess I will stick to dreaming about the delicious MF chocolate teas I will one day possess, because everything else seems to be lacking something in comparison.

Greaaaaaat news for my wallet!

Since when did I become a tea-litist anyway?! Man!

(Tea elitist…just made that up)

Kaylee

Tealitist! I love it. We really need to start a discussion thread for Steepsterite-invented words.

ohfancythat

Yeah! The other one I came up with was “teaxpertise” or “teaxperience”

Pronunciation is “tea-spertise” and “tea-sperience”

Hehe

Roswell Strange

I’m on the fence about wheth

Roswell Strange

**whether I want to try this one out for the same reason you seem to not like it; I don’t sweeten my tea so the added sweetener seems weird.

caile

I feel the same about the sweetener. This is the first new davidstea I’ve wanted to try in awhile but am hoping there isn’t too much of the rock sugar in it.

ohfancythat

Yeah. I’d rather it be unsweetened so I could add sugar if I chose to!

Being a fan of Macaroons and French Macarons it really made me curious to see how this tea would compare. The combination of pecans, cacao and coconut really worked well in the black tea. It was rich yet had a lightness to it like the cookies that the tea is named for. It was a great addition to the Easter sample collection and whet the appetite for the official launch on the Thursday.

It also provided a nice reminder of an old favorite “Toasted Walnut”. So if you like that blend you’ll be happy to try this one. For iced tea fans, I think you’d be able to drink this cold but this really is one meant for the more hotter side of the spectrum. Cheers!

Sipdown

Made the last perfect spoon into a latte, but I think it needed a bit more tea. However, now that it has cooled a touch, it’s so good! I love this tea. It’s chocolate and coconut and a bit of a nuttiness to it. This will have to come back into my cupboard soon. But until then, goodbye friend and I’ll enjoy you again soon.

Fjellrev

Mmm, I’ve ripped through like 75g of this and will definitely be coming back for more too.

TheKesser

I totally caved and got more today. I ordered online ‘cause a tea for one (the one that’s the teapot on top and the cup fits underneath it) was on sale in the web special section and I was watching for it to come back on sale. I didn’t want to pay for shipping for just that, so I got the tea too… hahaha

Fjellrev

Good job! I’ve been tempted to get Salted Caramel bars online since I can’t find them in store, but similar problem, don’t want to have to pay for shipping.
