From DAVIDsTEA

We take French toast very seriously around here. Which is why we created this sweet and buttery cardamom-spiced black tea with a dusting of cinnamon and cane sugar. It’s rich. It’s spicy. And it tastes just like the decadent breakfast of our dreams. Only this is one brunch tea you’ll be craving all day long.

Black tea, cinnamon, lemon peel, coriander seeds, cardamom, coconut sugar, cane sugar, natural and artificial flavouring

If garam masala ingredients got together and decided to compose a dessert-like tea symphony, this would be it.

The flavors here, unlike in so many flavored teas, don’t compete with the black base whose presence here is that of the main player: moderately bodied with very little acridity, especially for having been steeped on the longer side. The aroma is decadent—a bakery full of cinnamon buns: rich, spicy, and buttery notes which fully translate into the flavor.

Cardamom, coriander, and cinnamon in a very balanced ratio. A treat.

Also: Leigh, you are now a goddess in my book. I found out just after receiving your package last night that this was a limited edition tea and that DAVIDs is no longer carrying it. There’s got to be more than 50 g here. Sending serious tea hugs to Georgia. <3

It is pretty good, you can taste the spices and it is a little sweet. Does not really remind me of french toast though. It tastes nothing like apple cider, but it kind of reminds me of the relaxing feeling of drinking apple cider. (If that makes any sense, probably the spices are similar.)

Overall: Smells really good and is a nice, spicey/sweet black tea.

This tea smells heavenly. When I got the winter collection, I knew my coworker and I would be fighting over it! It just smells like a cozy, delicious dessert enjoyed surrounded by family. A great balance of the spices with a bit of the black tea flavor sneaking in.

Are you kidding me, one of the best black teas by DT! And here I was looking for an “afternoon tea”, ideally something light like green tea or white tea. But there was one tea left from DT that I hadn’t tried (which my bf bought for me last Christmas). I think I put this off for a while because I thought the spice scent was way too strong and I wasn’t sure how it would taste like in a tea. Brewed for a little longer than 7 mins – I could smell the spices from my teapot already! Still, I was hesitant about the tea, not expecting much…but wait for it..had my FIRST sip and boy it was AWESOME!
First note – I could taste and smell the spices
Middle – Black tea
And lastly – the tea leaves a sugary, creamy almost mild spice and a very bold aftertaste flavour.
(Although I don’t really get the reference to ’french toast)
But anyway, I totally underestimated this tea. It just feels like Christmas again!

I really, really enjoy this tea!! However I do find it to be a bit weak in strength. I have a tendency to steep black teas for a loooong time, so that has definitely affected how I will percieve a tea’s strength. I’ve steeped it for longer periods with more tea than recommended and at a different temperature, and it still isn’t as strong as I may have preferred, but regardless of that it is a really lovely tea.

Definite eggy taste which is a pleasant surprise (it isn’t surprising in the sense that it’s supposed to be flavoured as french toast, but it’s surprising to me how well they pull it off!). Sweet enough for me from the coconut and cane sugars to not add any extra sugar or sweetener. I prefer drinking black teas with milk and sweetener/sugar and so my review is from this tea with milk added.

Lovely french toast flavour and a very relaxing tea to enjoy. I would like to get this again!

Sipdown!

This has been keeping me company through a week of training. And it’s true to its name. I made French toast from scratch last weekend and this tea tastes like the egg/cinnamon/nutmeg mixture I soaked the bread in. It’s warm and comforting, especially with some sugar and a little bit of milk.

I stopped into DT yesterday and found that this tea is now gone, at least from that location. Maybe others still have it.

The DT near me said they were getting more in … but we’ll see. :-/

This one was a pleasant surprise.

I’ve had it in my cupboard for a while, waiting on the right time to try it. When I saw the name I assumed it would be one of the super sugary herbal blends that I usually can’t stand, but then I saw that it was a black tea. Guess I should maybe look up what I’m drinking before I hopelessly oversteep.

I don’t know if it’s the intense craving for baked goods that I’ve had lately or what my deal is, but this really hit the spot. I enjoy sweeter elements like nuts and cinnamon/sugar so much more in black teas than herbal teas. I feel like the slightly bitter base balances them quite well. This may not be a tea I would drink every day or at just any time of day, but it was just what I needed this afternoon. I’m drinking my third cup as we speak.

This is a very delicious tea. I have found myself craving it and only it from time to time. But like you, I would not drink it daily. Once every two weeks or so does the trick. And it resteeps nicely too.

M

It does resteep very nicely. I only have a bit, so I mainly drink it on days when I’ll be around to have multiple cups.

This is one of those teas that is getting quite a lot of positive reviews, so despite my dislike for cardamom (generally speaking), I did want to give this one a go. I have a feeling that the cardamom will be tolerable in this blend because it’s mixed with something sweet. The scent of this tea is delicious! Bready, sweet and a tiny bit of that playful cardamom in the background. I have high hopes!

Sipping… oh this is very nice. This tea has such a great combination of cinnamon, cardamom and sugar. I also taste a little bit of the lemon peel which adds just the lightest tang. The black tea doesn’t really shine at all, though, and prefers to stay hidden behind everything else. I really like this tea and believe it’s the closest I’ve been to tasting french toast in a tea. The aftertaste is a bit weird… I am thinking it might have to do with the lemon and the spices mixing. It’s not really artificial, but is just an odd flavor combination. I would have liked for there to be a stronger custardy, eggy flavor to further enhance the french toast, but it’s pretty darn good without.

If you’re interested in a sugary sweet and lightly spiced holiday tea, I would pop this into your shopping cart. It’s very unique, drinkable and delicious! Yum!

Yay! Glad it won you over despite the cardamom.

I agree with the comment regarding the artificial sweet after-taste. It isn’t pleasant… I cannot bring myself to drink the rest of my tin.
