Butter Pecan Black Tea

Black Tea by 52teas

The ice cream shop was out of my favorite butter pecan ice cream a while back, so I decided we should create a butter pecan ice cream tea!

Here it is: our premium black tea blended with organic vanilla bean bits, pecan pieces and natural vanilla, pecan and (just a touch) butter flavors. I made a big iced cup of this to take home today. I was going to save a little for my wife to try, but (sorry Sheri) it didn’t last that long. I know most people enjoy these nutty kinds of tea hot, but it was a delicious iced tea, let me tell you–a nice bold black iced tea with just a solid hint of vanilla-y, buttery pecan goodness. Yum. I hit the bottom of my cup way sooner than I anticipated.

Yay! I got my order today!

YUMMMMMMMM! Nutty, smooth, buttery, creamy – DELICIOUS! I like this one A LOT. I am almost (almost) liking it as much as the chocolate banana.

Come to think of it, Frank… bananas would be very good in this blend too. As would a little (little = a lot in LiberTEAS language) chocolate. :)

I am up way too early for a Saturday. My youngest daughter had a friend spend the night and they’re up, so… guess what? I’m up too.

The one redeeming element in me being up so early is that I can start drinking tea. And I’m starting my day with some Butter Pecan!

I tried it today as a latte, thinking that this might bring out some of the creamier qualities. After having tried it as a latte, I think it’s better without the milk. It’s still good with it, but, better without. The milk mutes some of the strong nutty flavors that I found so enchanting.

But, as I say, it’s still good. Very creamy. Delicious. Definitely one of 52Teas best, in my opinion.

Waking up with a cup of this yummy tea today.

It is so good. Smooth – but brisk enough to wake me up.

I may just have to buy more of this to try it iced (as Frank suggests) – but it is so good as a hot tea. This tea disappears from my cup so fast!

Yay! My order from Ms. Rachel at IHeartTeas arrived today!!!! I had a very late night last night and this delicious Butter Pecan black tea is the perfect afternoon pick-me-up.

Butter Pecan is one of my all time favorite ice cream flavors. One whiff of this tea straight out if the bag makes me weak in the knees! At first sip the black tea was a little overpowering, but after I let the tea cool a bit the butter pecan flavor really developed. I added a little raw sugar and a splash of almond milk and WOW what a treat.

I’m so glad that I had a chance to try this delectable tea! Thank you Rachel for brining this one back :)

Sweet and nutty, this tea fulfills its promise. It is very good but does not pop quite as much as other 52teas have done. I want to go and eat the tea leaves, however. This impulse is unusual and indicates the nutty goodness of the tea.

I’m officially out of this now…it was good while it lasted. Today – since my taste buds are still off – all I can tell you is that it tasted like a VERY strong Black Tea. I know it’s flavored but because I’m sick I can’t really pick up on the actual flavor.

This time around this smelled intensely like Butter Pecan AND Vanilla. Still reminds me of my Grandfather and his LOVE for Butter Pecan ICE CREAM!

Pecans and Black Tea sums it up this morning…see my previous review on this…
In the meantime…I am drinking this today because Friday’s are NUTTY and I decided to go with the theme…

LOL

I’m not sure if this tastes like the ice cream flavor BUT…it’s really good for a flavored black! YAY!

Vanilla = Creamy! Buttery! Pecans!!!!!!!!! Black Tea! A great blend of flavors! Thanks so much to LiberTEAs for sharing some of her stash!!!!

Very mild tasting tea. Well so is butter pecan ice cream. The vanilla is very subtle. Pecan flavor is not bitter. W/sugar and milk., just some comforting goodness.

Yum! First couple of times I did not get the steeping right but on the third time, with a little bit of sugar and milk, it really did taste like butter pecan ….In fact, as the nuttiness is quite subtle (and so is butter pecan ice cream), I have been having this as my morning brew for the past couple of days…

Tonight I tried this with a touch of creamer and a dab or Almond Milk and a pinch of sweetener and I let it all steep together for a very long time. What I tasted was closer to maple syrup but still yummy! I was supposed to have Organic Honeybush Apple Tea by Leaf Spa but I decided on this. Honesty, I made it earlier today but I am certain I made it wrong so I I’ll try again tomorrow before reviewing.

Alright my first 52Teas order has arrived and I jumped at the opportunity to try this one right away. I find this to be a bold sophisticated tea with warm sweet undetones and a touch of maple. It does remind you of Butter Pecan Ice Cream, so it does deliver. So far so good and the cooler it becomes the more the pecan flavor grows more pronouced. Delicious!

Finishing the last of this delicious tea, for dessert.
This last bit tastes like pure pecan pralines.
Buttery, caramelized brown sugar, pecans and brisk, malty black tea—such a yummy combo.
Oh Butter Pecan Tea Black Tea—you will be missed! :)

Yep, this is very satisfyingly Butter Pecan-like! …and there’s also a hint of something vaguely like brandy? Like flambe’d sugared pecans. It’s a good, warming and comforting flavor.

Basically (and obviously), this is butter pecan ice cream re-invented as hot tea! The black tea base is strong too—has a good “kick”. Kind of malty, kind of toasty. Complements the sweet, nutty, vanilla flavors.

I love butter pecan ice cream and this is a good homage to it.

Thank you Meghann for giving me a sample of this tea to try.

I went for a rather light steep this first time and had it without milk. That seems to have become “standard operating procedure” for tasting a new black tea – having it steeped lightly and plain first and the next time steeping it stronger and adding some milk.

This tea came out nutty-tasting, intermingled with the smooth sweetness of vanilla which becomes more prominent as the tea get cooler. The flavour is a little faint, but that’s likely due to the steeping time, but what I can taste I’m liking.

I just got in some tea samples from MeghannM (Thanks Meghann!) and so I thought I would start my day off with some black tea. I selected this one and boy am I glad that I did it is buttery and nutty a very nice blend from 52Teas.

I was a little worried about what the black tea in the background would taste like but I was pleasantly surprised when I tasted it to find that it is a very smooth cup and I don’t have to add sugar or milk. It is nice all on it’s own! Thanks again Meghann!!

Caved and got this tea a while back (before it showed up on the Select obviously, d’oh!) because I was seduced by the idea of a tea that tasted like a) ice cream, and b) a type of ice cream I love. Mmmm creamy and sweet and nutty oh my!! ::happy dance!:: Ahem, okay back to the tea…

I steeped according to the package directions, but I was a little worried I might end up with something ickily bitter because I wasn’t able to control the time as much as usual (moving (the bane of my existance), has necessitated me packing up all my beloved tea stuff, and the only strainer I have on hand is incredibly leaky resulting in a lot of the tea actually ending up in the bottom of the cup, and hence oversteeped). But no need to fret, the cup has no trace of bitterness, even from the little bits still swimming around happily in there (thankfully they settle well). The dry tea smelled lovely (say it with me: creamy and sweet and nutty oh my!) and there were big chunks of pecan amongst the leaves. The taste seems a bit muted compared to the smell. It definitely has a faint sort of maple-y sweetness, and a creamy sort of note when I swallow but the nutty pecan goodness is hiding from me.

The black tea flavour is definitely present and pleasant with decent strength but little bitterness. This could be a cup I could drink sans milk or sweetner, but in the name of experimentation I added some to see if it’d round out the tea and maybe bring out those elusive nuts? A spash of milk and half a sweetner packet did make this taste creamier and sweeter, helping the ice cream comparison, but unfortunately didn’t do anything to make it taste more pecan-y.

Overall from my first cup of this I say that it is a yummy, fairly mild and easy to drink black tea with a natural sweetness, creamy notes, no bitterness, and good with or without additives. Unfortunately it seems closer to a “Vanilla ice cream” or “Maple ice cream” tea then a Butter Pecan one because I just can’t find the nuts! I’m hoping playing around with the steeping might bring it out a bit more? Does anyone have any suggestions?

UPDATE: Okay, when I stick my nose into my cup and inhale I can definitely smell pecans and when I exhale after taking a sip I can sort of smell them for a moment. Are all my ten thousand or so taste buds just broken? o_O

Another fun tea! This one comes to me courtesy of Jenn.

Steeped according to my usual parameters and lightly sweetened. The tea base is good, I do get the butter pecan flavor. It is close to maple and cream, but really still tastes like butter pecan. Yum!

Thank you, Jenn!

Butter Pecan + Ice Cream = Very Bad
Butter Pecan + Tea = Very, Very Good

I’m not a fan of butter pecan, but apparently that’s because I haven’t had it in tea before. This is a great dessert tea and not nearly as heavy and syrupy tasting as I would have expected. The tea has a fair amount of astringency, but I think that helps keep it from being overly sweet tasting. The butter pecan flavor is fairly strong, but it doesn’t taste artificial. This would probably make a really great breakfast tea as well. Prepared with almond milk and stevia.
