Black Cherry Berry

Fruit Herbal Blend by Celestial Seasonings

Hibiscus, rosehips, roasted chicory, blackberry leaves, hawthorn, natural black cherry flavor with other natural flavors (contains soy lecithin), chamomile and sweet cherries.

“This tea’s luscious flavor is reminiscent of the red fruit punch we drank as children – of course, our version is 100% natural. A burst of American cherries is made even livelier by the sweetness of Oriental blackberry leaves. Delicious hot or iced, this blend takes you back to orchards of ripe, juicy cherries waiting to be made into succulent pies.” — Charlie Baden, Celestial Seasonings Blendmaster Since 1975

There was a box of this on clearance at Target, so instead of buying what I actually needed, I bought it. I steeped two bags in a glass of water for about 2 hours, and I’ve got a pretty potent little drink.

This is the first time though I’ve ever been able to actually taste paper from the sachets in a tea. Thankfully the cherry flavor is pretty strong and covers it rather quickly. It’s definitely a lot like koolaid, but hey, there’s nothing wrong with a natural, not filled with cups of sugar koolaid now is there?

The cherry isn’t medicinal, though it’s a bit tart, which I think we can easily blame on the first ingredient, hibiscus.

Not bad, but definitely something I’ll only be drinking iced like this.

A yummy lazy leave the bag in the cup tisane! Taken with a little honey. I am finding the black cherry to be the predominant flavor. It’s really flavorful, and I enjoyed it so much that I boiled some more water for a resteep of the bag. It’s milder, but still quite enjoyable!

I was a little suspicious since the hibiscus was the first on the ingredient list, but lazy and in a hurry (are those terms contradictory?) so I just dumped the bag in the cup and stuck it in the work microwave.

Nice surprise. No tartness! Just good and fruity. Kudos to CS for a fruit tea that doesn’t break you out in a sour sweat.

My second one. It’s tart. But it still has a nice flavor. It reminds me of hot koolaid.

True story — I’ve gotten most of the people who work at my branch hooked on teas. Or rather, re-interested in them. Today a coworker brought in some tea that her hubby had bought for her for us to try. It was CT’s Black Cherry and when I sniffed it smelled exactly like those sore throat/cough teas I drink when I’m under the weather. It smelled comforting and familiar, and when I tasted it, I loved the tartness and the berry added as well. And no medicinal aftertaste, hahaha!

Me, yesterday to the girls on the member services side: “First I got you all hooked on Doctor Who, now I’m getting you all hooked on tea. Basically, I’m turning you British.”

I’ve traditionally been drinking green and white teas, but this morning I found a treasure trove of forgotten teas in my cabinets. This was one of them. Because I really want to catch up on my rest I felt that an herbal before bed was best. Even though the teas were older they were brewing just fine.
I was pleased with my drink and enjoyed the fruity flavor. I also like that there was chamomile in the blend as It will help me sleep. I was tempted to pour it over ice but still enjoyed it hot. I think I might buy a new box after I use this up. :)

Backlog, from yesterday: (Mis-posted as Wildberry…makes me laugh now that I know the truth).

The smell of the teabag while dry reminds me of licorice candies my grandfather likes. Luckily, licorice is not on the list of ingredients. Nonetheless, this is an off-putting smell for me. While steeping, the liquor is the sort of berry juice purple I’ve come to expect from Celestial Seasonings.

Finally, the smell comes in as promised – berries! And a lot of them. The steeped smell is similar to childhood fruit punch, though the taste is not nearly as strong or sickly sweet. What I am left with if I can ignore the (still strong) sugar smell is really a nice berry flavoured tea. I can’t pick out specific notes and it is a bit of a ‘busy’ tea, but quite tasty. I think I’ll stick with True Blueberry in future, but this is the beauty of the sample packs – I find out what I like for cheap! : )

Well, this is the first time I have drank this tea knowing what it is going in. I tried my best to keep an open mind, but I still don’t like it. It has that Kool-Aid flavour that I find typical of Celestial Seasonings’ berry teas, and it might just be my least favourite of the sample pack. So far my only success with CS is in the True Blueberry, and I think i like the Peach one. Only one bag left of this, and I won’t miss it.

If I think long enough and know that it’s supposed to be black cherry, I can taste it, but it’s hidden under the Kool-Aid. I also think it’s only because I know that black cherry is theoretically the flavour.

Normally I shy away from the black cherry flavor, but this smelled so great when it steeped that I couldn’t stop sipping.

Strongly reminiscent of Kool aid. I did however, really like the smell of both the dry and the brewed tea. I think I like it better than some of the other Celestial Seasonings berry teas. I got it from a friend—its not bad for a freebie, but I’m not sure I’d buy it.

I kind of adore the sweet fruity teas from CS, even though I feel like they’re almost the “kool aid” of teas. This one is thick and dense, and I’m able to keep adding water to the same bag a couple of times (though generally I avoid this with most other teas). It’s dark and rich, not quite perfect for everyday, but once in a while, it’s a delight.

It has a very, very strong aroma and flavor. However, a small bit of milk in the cup makes it taste close to cherry ice cream. The strength may take some getting used to, but it’s not bad.

I’ve been trying to dilute one cup of this down with milk all day. The natural cherry flavor is really strong and it’s difficult to taste much else except a very flat blackberry leaf note. I would have personally been happier without the cherry flavor — it’s a bit like medicine. Sugar does make it better, though.

The first time I drank this tea I wasn’t too sure about it BUT after a few tries I have decided I like it. The aroma is AWESOME. I’m usually not big on intense fruity teas but this one is nice. It has a strange after taste but I can live with that because it’s usually not my last cup of the day and if it is I just pop a mint or gum or something.

Very sweet and tart, almost cloying. Nice as a treat, but a little harsh on the throat and leaves a strong dry feeling in my mouth.

This one tastes like the mortal human drink Aide of Cool but, it’s tea and that makes it very Adult and a Grown Up Thing To Sip Mockingly While Twirling My Mustache. It’s entirely different and I wouldn’t understand younger readers to understand the experience. LOL. (P.S. Drink with sugar and don’t steep too long, otherwise delicious.)

The smell reminds me of cough syrup too much for the tea to be enjoyable.

I’ve now tried this one twice with no additives and I’m not loving it. It smells wonderful and the black cherry comes through strongly, but it’s weirdly bland otherwise. I do want to try it with some almond milk and sweetener and see how that goes.

It actually seems a little like juice due to the fruity sweetness. It’s a nice, basic cherry flavor so it does the trick.
