From DAVIDsTEA

Relax, help is here
5000-year-old Ayurvedic medicine says that we all consist of three doshas in differing proportions. Vata is the most delicate one, and an imbalance can cause anxiety or nervousness. Regain your equilibrium with this soothing blend of organic chamomile, saffron, licorice, ginger, fennel seeds, rose buds, spearmint, organic rosehips, lemongrass, organic holy basil and orange.

2 tablespoons for 375 ml of water

Primary mint flavour with spices in background. Licorice sweetness in aftertaste. I am not detecting any floral or orange flavour in this blend. Only minimal lemongrass flavour but it seems to be well-blended and not overwhelming with a 6 minute infusion.

I saw that this was one of the blends that Davids Tea was discontinuing so I decided to snag it while I had the chance. I don’t generally have much faith in Ayurvedic medicine but the ingredients all sounded interesting so what the heck. Mint comes across as the dominant flavour in this blend, but there are layers of other flavours as well – a bit of spicy basil, a touch a licorice, a hint of rose. It’s quite nice.

The Vata Ayurvedic tea was one of my first DavidsTea purchases and I think it will remain one of my regulars for a long time. This tea is perfect for sipping before bedtime and it helps me to decompress, relax, and drift off to sleep. The spearmint and chamomile come to the flavour foreground without being overwhelming and join with the other ingredients to make a mild and soothing blend. This tea is also wonderful with a dash of honey. A highly recommended purchase!

From the Caffeine Free sampler set.

If you are like me and don’t like licorice flavors, you probably won’t like this tea. At first look, this seems like any other minty citrus nighttime blend. Lemongrass, spearmint, rosehips, no big deal. I am good with all these things. It even smells like a typical sleepytime tea. Nope.

I’m not saying the fennel and licorice is loud or overwhelming, it does mix quite well with the other flavors, but I just am not fond of that flavor at all, so I would not try this again. If you do like licorice, go for it! This is the relaxing herbal for you.

Well, this one was… a story.

I had bought a bunch of DAVIDsTEA samplers from their website and this one came with.. I believe Caffeine-Free teas. I naturally was finding a lot of teas through these tiny, cute tins and after deliberating for a while, I picked this tea to try when I went up to see my crew. It smelled heavenly. Alas, it decieved me as so many do.

I could not stomach it. When it went down my throat, it felt as if it left and egg at the back of it and left my mouth feeling like I had just thrown up! I was horrified! The second sip proved to be the same! The heavenly smell was gone and now it just had the aroma of dead grass clippings from a swampy golf course. I couldn’t stand it, dumped it, and proceeded to complain to deaf ears.

I stand by my dislike. This tea was the worst I have had as of recent and I will not rebuy such a thing in the future. I’m glad it came in a tiny tasting tin instead of 50g!

This is a great bedtime tea, it’s a really nice blend of flavours and the chamomile isn’t too overwhelming. I find I DO sleep better with this tea as opposed to other “relaxing” teas, a very good purchase!

Case of the Missing Tealog opened, as I know I’ve logged this on more than one occasion. Regardless, I had a huge cup of this tonight/today, and it’s weird stuff. As long as I remove the rosebuds, I find this palatable… and relaxing. I think once this bag is done however, I too will be done. Looking forward to a sipdown with another… three? massive mugs of this. Sigh.

This is a really interesting tea, and it’s very calming. I was looking for a tea containing ginger because I get nauseous quite often, and this certainly does the trick. I can really taste the ginger and spices, which some people may not like. The loose tea itself is beautiful, I love the roses :)

DavidsTea used to have a tea called “Vata Ayurvedic” that was phenomenal but it was discontinued for about a year and this current one was introduced. I don’t like it – it’s too spicy (from the ginger) and citrusy and I don’t find it calming at all.
