Banana Dream Pie (organic)

Black Tea by DAVIDsTEA

Pie in the sky

When it comes to dreaming up new teas, sometimes inspiration just randomly strikes. It usually happens in the middle of a really great dessert. So you can probably imagine how this decadent flavour came to be. We’ll give you a hint: it involved a chocolate banana cream pie. We tried out dozens of blends before we found the perfect one – a rich, chocolatey black tea blend with pieces of ripe banana and creamy white chocolate. It tastes like a dream come true.

Ingredients: Black tea, cocoa nibs, banana pieces, white chocolate, cocoa powder.

I am sooo happy I splurged on a bunch of David’s Tea while in New York!!! I feel like the last time I placed an order I missed the ones that I would really love and got some that didn’t quite work for me. So this time, after making the vendor kindly make me sniff at every single tea and spending over $100 later… I have a collection of deliciousness to enjoy!!! Thanks David’s Tea!!! I am thrilled! Now if only I could get them to ship to Ecuador, I would be the happiest girl ever!

This tea was available to taste the day I went to purchase my teas. Of course, one taste was enough to get me hooked on it! The dry leaf looked delicious with the banana pieces and strong black tea scent… Oh dear… Must have 4 ounces (and a free tin…). And so 4 ounces were added to my long list of teas that I would be purchasing that day.

Now, at home, I brewed 2 teaspoons to 500ml of water in my fabulous new Breville. This is one of those teas that will make an entire room smell delicious. Everyone in the kitchen asked if banana bread was in the oven. Smiling, I said, “Nope! It is my delicous banana pie tea that I bought from David’s Tea!”. So of course, everyone, including my tea clinical brother, tried it. For the first time ever, everyone liked it! They all agreed that it tasted exactly like banana bread!!!

I love it. You can clearly taste the black tea base, which is pleasantly astringent without being bitter. The banana flavor is incredibly natural tasting. It tasted, in all honesty, like fresh baked home made banana bread! The texture was creamy and rich, almost as if milk had been added. I didn’t taste chocolate, but really, it was perfect without out it.

This is really, a tea worth travelling to another continent to get. Trust me, if you like tea and banana bread or muffins, you will love this tea!!!

Got a latte from my coworker with the tiniest bit of agave.

mmmmmmm SO good! Banana! Creeeeamy and sweet with a hint of chocolate. But oh the banana! Apparently it makes a kick butt iced latte too. I won’t be buying any for myself, too close to Christmas, but it’s on my list!

This one smells unmistakeably like chocolate banana. Yum! And the flavour is pretty much what I’d expect an unsweetened chocolate banana tea to taste like. It makes me wonder what this would be like sweetened… or as a latte! I’m willing to bet it would be fabulous! The black tea base is pretty good here, only a touch of astringency at the recommended 5 minutes, and it really grounds the flavourings.

Again, another tea that’s unlikely to be a staple in my collection, but it’s enjoyable nonetheless. I really need to use the rest of my sample as a sweetened latte….

ETA: Second infusion reminds me of chocolate banana rooibos’ I’ve tried… and not in a great way. It’s not bad, but it’s certainly nothing like the first infusion.

To be fair, I’m only drinking this because I wanted to have a sipdown. However, it’s actually pretty tasty, so I’m certainly not regretting finishing off the last of it! It smells deliciously sweet and almost raisiny, and tastes chocolatey and banana-y and pretty good. A teensy bit astringent, but considering that I’m comparing it to the remarkably smooth Premium Taiwanese Assam from Butiki… that’s not surprising.

Definitely not a bad choice for tonight! Although I think I’m going to have to stop with the caffeine after three 12+ oz. mugs of black teas…

I’ve been wanting to try this tea since forever, so a big thanks to whatshesaid for sending it to me, and in a festively decorated envelope no less! The dry leaves are covered in a fine, powdery cocoa and smell like rich chocolate. The banana is noticeable in the tea’s aroma. The flavor is of heavy milk chocolate with a sweet banana finish. The tea really fills your mouth, and it is a robust flavored blend. The chocolate flavor is definitely more noticeable, with just a little banana mixed in. I added a little sweetener and just the smallest amount of milk to made it nice and creamy. This tea makes me want to crawl back into bed with a big book instead of going to class!

-Dry blend has small black tea leaves, cocoa nibs and pieces of dried banana all covered in a fine cocoa powder.
-Dry leaves smell like rich chocolate. Tea liquor aroma is of chocolate and bananas.
-Tea liquor is a cloudy medium orange brown color with an oily sheen on top.
-Heavy milk chocolate and black tea flavor with a sweet banana finish.
-Best with sweetener and the smallest amount of milk.
-Very good tea. Mainly chocolate flavor with just a hint of banana.

I felt so groggy this morning. I don’t think I really woke up until the middle of my workout; Which likely means I was doing completely ineffective zombie movements during the first half of my exercises like I belonged in Michael Jackson’s Thriller music video. Greaaat! It’s better than nothing I suppose, but it’s certainly not the butt-kicking cardio I intended.

As for this tea, the smell and taste of bananas are plainly recognizable. I’m not sure about the dream or cream part of the description though, but I’m drinking it plain. Perhaps the creaminess might ring a little more true with the addition of milk and/or sugar? I enjoy bananas occasionally, but I have to be in the mood for it, and I’m thinking the same might go for this tea. It’s quite good especially in the way that it captures the taste of bananas, but it’s not a “gotta have it now” kind of tea for me.

I finished this sample today. I was drinking this black and it was alright so I decided to try it with a touch of milk and a teaspoon of brown sugar. The milk made the creaminess shine through a bit more. As for the addition of brown sugar it tasted like it could have used either more or none at all. I usually drink my tea black, but don’t get me wrong, I do occasionally enjoy those super sweet drinks like hot chocolate, or other sweet beverages prepared for me by someone else (the occasional ignorance of sugar content is bliss).

After I drank my first cup I had the rest of the pot black, and it somehow tasted better than that initial sip. Perhaps I let it steep a tad longer? Oh! and I used much more tea leaves than I did the last time I logged this, and there is a definite improvement in the taste.

I could taste the banana both ways (black or with milk & sugar), and it was a real banana taste, rather than a candy/imitation runt flavor. The banana taste was a tad subdued, which might be a good thing, as banana is a flavor that can get to be a bit much for me.

Overall this tea is decent. It’s not something I’ll need to keep in my pantry year round, but it’s certainly one I’d try again in a sample size.

I am on a banana kick now, although I’m not sure if I like this one or not.

On one hand, it was absolutely astringent with a 5 minute steep, which is what they recommend. I can’t imagine getting the chocolate and banana flavors with any less time. But on the other, it does taste good with milk and sugar. So maybe this would be better as a latte like Pumpkin Chai.

The banana flavor is so good, but the chocolate is somewhat lacking, and I’m not getting any creaminess really, even with the added milk.

I’m thinking when I make a latte, I’ll use a little chocolate syrup instead of another sweetener.

So good! I had to go DT today and I’m so glad I did, I scored the tree bubble tea pot with it’s matching cups all for 19.50! Plus I got 25 grams of all the new teas. I got this as a tea to go and sipped it while I perused the mall. Today was a day of deals for me.
This tea is sweet and creamy. Like chocolate, banana and whip cream!

thank you Crow Kettle for sending me some of this one! I always have such an appreciation for all the generous Steepsters who send me teas! I love this one. It’s a malty chocolate with a black tea base that really blends nicely with the chocolate. It has a darker flavor to it that I love. And banana! Just a hint of banana, but it’s there. So very good! I don’t understand where the “pie” in the name comes from, but I love this just as a “chocolate banana” tea. I don’t think I’ve tried many from Davids but I think this is my favorite so far. I’m trying to sip slowly but it ain’t happenin! (Also, if I didn’t sip slowly I’d probably be drinking about 20 cups of tea a day.)

I love pie.

I love bananas.

I was meant to love this tea.

It tastes like Murchie’s Coconut Cream Banana. (which, coincidently, tastes like banana pie). There are around two types of “sweetness” present: the creamy banana flavour followed by a smooth dessert-sweet cocoa finish. The black base is subtle and melds with the chocolate vibe, which comes out more on second steep. No bitterness, minimal astringency, lots of happy.

I was hoping to like Cookie Dough as much as I did this one but, alas… I think I’ve enjoyed near all the banana flavoured blends David’s Tea has put out, despite the “banana” having very different “textures” in all of them. Ok, maybe the Banana Nut Bread wasn’t a huge win but I did enjoy eating it as a trail mix.

Bananas: a sure way to make me very, very happy.

After curiously looking up myfitnesspal (mentioned on Shmiracles’ post) and logging all of my meals, I quickly jumped to the conclusion that I don’t get enough protein in a day. what, how is that possible?!

While doing some late night emergency shopping with my roommate (her toothbrush died) I impulsively picked up some expensive soy protein powder. Maybe that wasn’t the smartest thing to buy on the fly; there were many brands and types of protein powder and surely there are better ways to incorporate protein into one’s diet.. Oh, well. I thought I could make some cool smoothies..

Or throw it into some tea. This tea. Why did I chose this tea? It tastes beyond funky. I think the powder might go better with the cup of sparrows tongue I have beside me or, perhaps, a fruit tea. I don’t know. A great experimental journey awaits me. Tomorrow.

Oh, no! I started steeping this around 15 minutes ago and totally forgot about it! I’m so angry with myself- I only have a 8 gram sample of this so I’m going to be drinking this cup even if it’s horrible.

Surprisingly, it’s not too bad. It’s not bitter in the traditional sense and astringency remains minimal. The flavour becomes more akin to banana flavoured dark chocolate than banana pie. Steeped this long, the malty smooth black tea is actually noticeable and I think it pairs well with the dairy notes. I ran out of milk but otherwise I think it would make a nice hot chocolate tea. All in all, not a complete mess up.

Long time no see Fellow Tea drinker ! Been a busy month looking for a new job not lot of tea drinking as been made now that the job is found stress level get lower and tea come back in mind.

I was happy to see that one not enough banana thing are made but the more flavoured tea i drink the more i hate them there always seem to have weird taste in them when it’s a ingredient i know i don’t like in tea (apple or hibiscus) well that a chance i take but there is other like this one all ingredient i love but still a weird taste i can’t identify like a spice making it barely able to finish the cup.

It does taste banana but nothing near banana pie ( or chocolat or any of the other ingredient for that matter) and that weird taste i get in the background with each sip they smell so good i just want to love them but it don’t happen ! Straight tea it’s gonna be for me they rarely disappoint me.

like with the other i’m gonna finish my sample in hope my note will change but it’s never do maybe i’m just not made for flavored tea

DAVIDsTEA

Dry Leaf Nose: Sweet notes of banana and chocolate.

Liquor: Brown liquor with a sweet and a ripe banana-chocolate nose.

Flavour: Amazing banana cream pie flavour – the chocolate is rich and appealing, while the banana has the ripe taste of those used to sweeten pies and confections. There’s even a hint of that rum-like character you’ll find in ripe banana.

So, this is one that I had to had to try, because I love chocolate teas, and I do like bananas. I liked Banana Nut Bread, but not Dulce and Banana so much, and I think that the Banana Oolong had stevia, so I shied away from that one. But anyways, this one is d say that it is somewhere between Checkmate and Love Tea #7.

I have to say that I think the 10g bag I got is gonna go pretty fast, and I will need to get a bigger bag soon.

So, this was meant to be a comfort tea. I had a less than stellar visit with my local LUSH shop this evening, ended up with a headache despite saying multiple times, no…I don’t want to try that product, especially if it has that scent which is known to be a headache trigger…but, I got duped into trying a tiny bit and within 30 minutes…BOOM…headache.

But then I was distracted by a shiny thing (the Let The Good Times Roll that I got tonight), and I oversteeped the tea. It isn’t horrible, just a bit stronger than usual. I do like this tea, but there are others I like so much better that I don’t think that I will repurchase when it is done. I might get more later, but not right now.

Thanks to Stephanie for sending me a sample!

The leaves (dry and wet) smelled of banana and a bit of chocolate – like banana dipped in melted chocolate. Surprisingly, the flavor of the liquor was bitter, and the banana was weaker than I anticipated. Even when I brewed another first infusion with a lower steeping time (about a minute less) the tea was still bitter. The second infusion tasted better: I let the leaves steep for a bit longer than the recommended alloted time for the first infusion (for compensation), and the flavor was less bitter and the banana and chocolate stood out more. Even then it was only alright at best.

I had high expectations because I love banana/chocolate teas, but this one isn’t for me unfortunately.

Another sample from ozli, who has done a great job doubling my tea collection with all the samples she has sent me!

I used the entire package to make a 12oz cup but I wish I had held a little back to experiment with. I love the banana chocolate aroma. I really like how it tastes too, but it’s just slightly astringent and I’m not sure if a shorter steep time or a splash of cream is all I need to make this 90+.

Maybe I’ll try it again if they bring it back next winter!

This was one of the free samples from my David’s tea order.

Steep notes: 2 tsp. leaf, 1 cup water, no additives, below parameters.

I definitely get chocolate- maybe banana if I look really hard, but it is not as strong as the chocolate in the scent. The taste is the same – all I get is a chocolate tea, maybe some creaminess from the banana.

Eh – not enough complexity, or enough banana, for me.

Not a bad tea, but why did they have to add the chocolate? My dream pie definitely is more whipped cream and less chocolate based. The banana notes are lovely and as a latte it blends up well, but I’m not going to be restocking. I’m kind of getting tired of most chocolate teas, especially those from Davids, and this one isn’t anywhere near as good as Read My Lips or Cookie Dough. So farewell, my dream pie. I hope to meet you in earnest one day.

Sipdown 3!

After drinking this, I really want to try more banana teas. I’m not a huge chocolate tea fan, but the combination of banana and chocolate definitely works for me. The scent of the dry leaves reminded me of dessert. It smelled like the overripe bananas I use for banana bread with a hint of chocolate.

The banana flavor did not disappoint and the chocolate was subtle enough for me to still enjoy it. I wasn’t so crazy about the base, and I thought it lacked the creaminess of banana cream pie. I think dairy would pair really well with this blend,. I’d love to try it as a latte, especially with a touch of cinnamon.

Thanks to Marcel Duchamp for sharing!

This is one of the teas I had my cousin pick up for me. I didn’t think I let it steep more than 3 mins, but there is quite a bit of astringency.
Just behind that astringency is a delicious ripe banana taste, with a touch of chocolate & creamyness.
This is really good, I added a touch of rock sugar to kill the astringency & it did without sweetening the tea.
Another one to add to my purchase list.

I really like this. I find it’s sometimes easy for me to dismiss these serious dessert teas upon first taste, but once I sit down and really pay attention to the flavors, I realize how well done some of them are.

I find this is one of those. It really tastes like a chocolatey banana dessert. I might say this is on par with the Red Velvet Cake as my favorites from DavidsTea’s dessert blends.

I just had a second steep of this and it was still so rich and flavorful!

(Incidentally, am I the only one with sachets and bags and strainers with leaves of “steeped one time” tea in them all over my counter? I like to at least do two steeps of everything but I don’t always want it immediately, and I have so many different teas to choose from I end up with soggy tea leaves in various containers all over my counter waiting to be drank a second time… :/)

I’m glad I stocked up a bit before the winter teas are gone, but wondering if I should go back for even MORE! Maybe I will do that on payday, because what if they never bring it back?!
