Oh man what did I do wrong?
This tastes like…like…bread???
There’s a yeasty or malty note that reminds me of beer. Am I crazy? (Maybe.) I can taste a bit of the coconut, too, towards the end, but it’s this other bread-flavor that dominates.

It’s gross, to be honest. I’m disappointed. I followed Adagio’s instructions, so what happened? Le sigh. I don’t know whether I’ll give this another chance. I mean, it could be awesome, but is it worth mucking around to find out?

A lot of people really disliked this tea so when it showed up in the Travelling Teabox I decided to give it a try out of morbid curiosity.

The smell wasn’t too promising – it was an oddly yeasty, almost spoiled sort of scent with a bit of fruitiness mixed in. I reduced the steeping time dramatically from what Adagio recommended to see if that helped.

It wasn’t too bad at first – it tastes a bit dusty, and a bit fruity. But the aftertaste – dear god it’s horrible! It tastes similar to how it smells – strongly yeasty, like the tea has gone off. And it lingers. A lot – I can taste it on each breath. Bleh, this has to be the first time I’ve dumped a cup of tea after just one sip, but this aftertaste is making me gag.

You’d think that something with the word ‘tropics’ in the title couldn’t go wrong, but somehow Adagio still managed to create massive Tea Fail out of it. This doesn’t even taste remotely like anything I’d associate with the tropics. I mean yeast? Come on!

There’s always the chance that the tea really is spoiled, so I’m debating chucking this in the garbage rather than back in the TTB. Thoughts?

I got this tea at a wedding I attended! It was the favor and our place cards were attached to it. Nice idea :)

This is my first experience with a white tea. The tea leaves almost looked like bay leaves. Interesting!!!

The tea liquor is a pretty golden color. First sip – I taste a sort of tea taste with an overlay of the flavoring. I really don’t like the flavor – I think it’s supposed to be coconut and pineapple, but I think it tastes like the fake butter people put on popcorn with a dash of suntan lotion!!!! Bleah!!!

I am going to finish this cup, but I’m not resteeping and this tin is going into the traveling teabox!!

EDIT: Cofftea suggesting trying it at a 3 minute steep time. I did a cup at 3 minutes/180F and the tea tastes good, but that fakebuttersuntanlotion is faint but there, and it’s just too artificial for my liking. Again, I’ll finish the cup, but out into the world it goes! If one of you happen to choose it from the TTB, lessening the suggested steep time is a great suggestions and improves it ALOT :)

EDIT2: This tea is growing on me as it cools. I think I’m going to keep it for an afternoon cuppa, but I wouldn’t buy it. I would up the rating to oooooh, a 51 at a 3 min steep time. Cofftea – you’re a tea saver :)

EDIT3: and now I have a stomachache!!!!! I never get stomachaches! It’s going in the box again!!

So I drank some loose leaf yesterday (backlogging again) just because I hadn’t in a while, and this was one from Azzrian I hadn’t tried.

This was…okay, I guess. It wasn’t what I was expecting.

Smell: The coconut is definitely there. No Pineapple, and the coconut almost smells burnt and a little weird. But I like coconut, so I figured I’d try it.

Taste: The coconut is there, but it isn’t a strong, sweet taste like I was expecting, and the pineapple was kind of in the mix but to me it mixed wrong. So it was a weird sweet/burnt/kind of tasteless at times tea.

I finished it, but it wasn’t that great.

A pretty tea, the leaves are greyish-green. It smells like a liqueur, though. Kind of different.

165/2 min. The scent is somewhat tropical. There’s the very sweet pineapple candy taste and perhaps an essence of coconut, but it’s not very clear. Overall, it’s an okay tea, but nothing really stands out. Into the compost after just one steep.

Oh no. No. This tea smells like a week old pina colada gone bad. Gave it a shot anyway. Boy was that a mistake. It tastes the way it smells. Horrible. Could not finish the cup. Now I have an oily funk in my mouth. If anyone wants what is left of this sample, I would be glad to send it out the door. Really.

Interesting…It smells of alcohol before and after the steep. I was not sure about this but it tasted nothing like it smelled…“Thank God!” However, it was still okay. I didn’t feel like it had a strong enough of a tropical taste. All around okay and I will finish off the sample but have no plans to purchase more.

This was much milder than Adagio’s Pina Colada – and that’s a good thing. Not my favorite tea, but not obnoxious like that colada.

When I first brewed a cup, I legitimately thought something was wrong with my mug, like it wasn’t washed or something. It just smelled terrible. Since it had only been in the cup for maybe 15 seconds, I brewed it again and realized no, that’s the tea.

I didn’t even finish it. It wasn’t bad but it just wasn’t worth braving the odd scent for a sip.

I got this tea because it sounded like it would taste like a pina colada tea. Meh! Anything but. Glad I only bought a sample.

This tea is not quite what I’m expecting when I see that something has pineapple and coconut flavoring. Neither of those flavors were particularly apparent in the brewed tea, and while I definitely liked this better than Adagio’s White Pear, it’s not something I would order. It’s a generic white tea with a pineapple-ish flavor and coconut aftertaste.

After reading the reviews on here, I’m wondering if Adagio has changed something. The dry leaves smell overwhelmingly of coconut. I was worried about that since coconut is far from my favorite fruit. Once brewed, you can taste the floral fruitness and yes, lots of coconut. I don’t mind it, it definitely reminds me of a tropical vacation.

I bought a sample of this a few months ago. I tried it once when it arrived and didn’t finish the cup. I tried to drink it, but I just couldn’t get used to the taste – kind of harsh and chemical-ish. I want to try it again before I throw it out – to experiment with steeping time – but I haven’t gotten around to it yet.

The last of the new teas I’m going to try today.
The smell of the tea in the canister is fruity yet dark. Inviting but a little mysterious. Which is pretty impressive for a 2 inch sample tin of little green leaves.
Once brewed, the scent diminishes a little and almost acquired a very mild soapy overtone. (But in a good way, honest.) The flavor is definitely complex, and I’ll have to try this a few times before I can really describe it with justice. I tend to sweeten my tea, but I wanted to try the first sip of this unsweetened. It tasted almost woody. But I liked it. I then added a packet of splenda (as is my want with most tea). On second taste, it’s definitely over sweetened. So only half a packet next time. It’s got a bit of a creamy mouth-feel to it. As I am working through this cup, I find I’m liking it more and more.

I’ll try a second steeping tomorrow and see what I think then…

I picked this up in my first ever Adagio store outing after a friend I was with picked up the jar, smelled it, made a face and told me to not do it. I, being the contrary person I am, of course picked up the canister and took a whiff. I didn’t think it was that bad and I ended up picking up a bag. Unfortunately this is the tea whose memory will forever remind me to buy samples first.
The coconut was a bit stronger in the bag when I first opened it, but I could smell the pineapple as well, so I brewed up a batch.
Not what I was expecting, but certainly not as bad as I was thinking it would be after reading some of the reviews here. But within 5-10 min of first drinking this, I got the most godawful headache and proceeded to be ill for the rest of the night. And I’m positive it was the tea since I hadn’t eaten/drank anything I hadn’t had before.
I’m not sure if it was a bad batch, or just whatever they used for the flavoring reacted badly with me, but it was one of the worst experiences I’ve had with a tea since I started drinking it.

This has been one of my favorites since I got a sample last Christmas (09) and its been my daily tea off and on between some other greens and whites that I have. I got hooked drinking it lightly sweetened with turbinado sugar and now prefer it unsweetened. I’ve been brewing 2 batches every morning from my Zarafina and chilling it in the morning before drinking it since its too hot out here in Arizona to take it hot. With this being my first white tea that I have taken a big liking to, its hard to compare it to other whites. I love the light and fruity flavor that go along with earthy flavor of the tea.

I’ve gotten 7 or 8 cups out of the sample I purchased but I’m still undecided about this tea. The dry leaves smell like pineapples and sunscreen. There’s definitely coconut here too.

It’s decent brewed. Unsweetened, it has a nice flowery quality but lacking in overall flavor. On the other hand, too much sugar ruins it. Just a touch of sugar will do.

I’ve also been mixing it with some Vanilla Rooibos tea, which has been my favorite way to drink it.

When I opened the tin to this tea I couldn’t quite place what it was I was smelling but it definitely was the most powerful, in aroma, white tea I’ve come across so far. I’ve recently received my Perfect Steeper from EightCranes.com and my electric teapot from Adagio, so I was eager to try it. I was surprised how the aroma subdued only a little and the taste had what one drinker described as buttery. The first three sips I wasn’t sure but once I added a little of Splenda, I can say I like it. No it’s not at the top but it’s a little bit above average.

I’d decided to use the Perfect Steeper’s steeping time where white teas are steeped for 1-2 mins and it came out great. This will definitely be a regular :)

When I gave this a smell from the tin I jumped back; it smells horrible. But as soon as it hit some hot water, man did it taste great. A nice, light tropical flavor.

It makes no sense, but it is a bit creamy tasting; perhaps it is the coconut!

It creamy and smooth, very pleasant!
