Jasmine Pearls

Green Herbal White Blend by Canton Tea Co

Our handmade Jasmine Pearls won the top three star gold award at the most recent Guild of Fine Food Awards. Only 83 products out of 5,000 entries in all food and drink categories achieved three stars.
This is one of the few authentic Jasmine teas available in the UK and was made by our own supplier. It was independently blind-tasted and judged to be the better than any other Jasmine Pearls at the Great Taste Awards. The long silvery tea buds are hand-picked from the white tea varietal used for Silver Needle, but the leaves are processed as a green tea. Once picked, the buds are carefully stored for a few weeks until the Jasmine flowers blossom. They are very skilfully hand rolled into perfect spheres and layered over several nights with fresh Jasmine. Just a few pearls yield a highly fragrant liquor, bright with refreshing jasmine and sweet with the soft creamy undertones of the tea buds.

Many so-called Jasmine teas are artificially scented with oils and flavourings etc. Ours are completely natural and capture the delicacy of the Jasmine flower without overwhelming the sweet, creamy softness of the tea.

I took about 10 “balls” or “pearls” and infused for about 6 minutes…I had an emergency and ended up drinking it iced instead. The COLD version of this – that I’m drinking right now – is LOVELY! It’s gently scented and flavored with the Jasmine and it’s ‘just right’ for my liking. It’s NOT Bitter…it’s sweeter instead. NICE.

Before Brewing:
These pearls are different from my other collection of jasmine pearls. They are a bit smaller and whiter with more “hair” on them. I like that! That’s like three indication of a good tea. And the smell of jasmine! Oh god, it’s so powerful.

After steeping:
It’s so relaxing to watch the pearls unfurl… Not to mention fun. I just love to see the balls that float at the top fall down to the bottom. Just call me evil, but I really like gravity (and water) drag them down. The brew is very light in color – to be honest it looks exactly like water. First sip reveals a gentle jasmine flavor. Some jasmine tea are too perfumed and too strong. Simply put : to damn overpowering. This has a perfect balance. Like other jasmine tea it has a lingering aftertaste, but it’s very discrete and quickly gone.

I resteeped the leafs, only to find the tea become even better!
It becomes so gentle and juicy at the back of the throat.

I am really pleased with these pearls. They deserve every star they got.

I love jasmine tea and especially jasmine pearls, so it’s always fun for me to try a new variety in this family. The scent which emanated from the packet when I opened it was heavenly – sweet and juicy without being cloying. I took what seemed to me the right amount of tea (counted later and found it was 19 pearls), and gave them 8 ounces of 185 degree water to bathe in. I ended up with a light yellow-green liquor that gave off a fantastic scent. The flavor here is also exactly what I’m looking for in jasmine pearls: authentic, naturally sweet, floral, and not at all bitter or astringent. Seems able to withstand multiple infusions too, prolonging the enjoyment. This is good stuff!

It’s a good afternoon for the gentle enjoyment of jasmine pearls, and these are the real deal. Fragrant, juicy, naturally sweet, and lingering aftertaste without any astringency or bitterness. For me, these are the tea equivalent of a relaxing soak in a hot spring. Ahhh….

This is such a nice, well-rounded tea. The pearls are a delight to watch as they unroll in the water, the liquor is a light golden hue, the aroma is redolent of jasmine without being cloying, and the taste is smooth, sweet, and just the right amount of floral.

Had a couple really nice infusions of this today – still fragrant, floral, naturally sweet, and delicate. I went with water a little cooler than I normally use, and found that this brought out the sweetness more and toned down the intense floral scent and flavor. I like it when a tea can really change character like that when the parameters are even slightly varied.

This is my first try of a Canton Tea Co product and it’s also my first time using a gaiwan. (I already love the thing. How much easier is that?!)

This tea is comprised of tiny pearls. Obviously the fragrance is floral, but this tea goes one step beyond. I would say it’s more of a sugary perfume. It’s quite exotic, but still not quite the level of fragrance that would make this my “perfect” jasmine.

The prepared tea has a pale honey color and has an incredibly delicate flavor. It’s faintly sweet but the floral taste just very slightly overpowers the complexity of the tea base. I get a slight bitter tingle on the edge of my tongue that lingers. I guess I want the best of both worlds; more jasmine fragrance but less flowery flavor.

Overall, this is really good but not perfect. It’s a pleasant tea but, especially given the shipping costs from the UK, I’ll continue to look for that “perfect” jasmine.

The smell and taste of the Jasmine was authentic, and not artificial. The aroma of the tea was of Jasmine flowers, sweet and soft, calming me down and reminding me of a sleepy time tea. The color of the liquor was very light, as expected from the white tea leaves. The white tea is tasty, I could taste the creaminess and sweetness from the Silver Needle tea. I steeped this tea 4 times, and by the 4th steep, the Jasmine had slowly gone away, but the Silver Needle was still as tasty as the first steep. In addition to the Silver Needle flavors, the taste has sweet finish, leaving the Jasmine flower smell in the aroma and the sweetness from the Jasmine in the cup. I really enjoy this tea, and imagine that it would be amazing iced!

This is a little lighter in flavor that I’m used to for jasmine pearls so I’m going to need to toy around with how I steep it to find the right balance, so I’m not going to rate it just yet.

These are really REALLY really good jasmine pearls when steeped just so. Still soft … but oh so creamy and delicious, with a really nice jasmine note. Not at all perfume-y or chemical-y tasting. Sweet and smooth and really very nice.

I’m loving this.

My favorite jasmine pearls. Light, subtle, delicious. Don’t use too many!

I can’t believe that I have not written any tasting notes about this tea. It has been in my cupboard for ages and I drink it regularly. I really must get better at recording all my teas! Anyhoo, I put half a dozen pearls in my infuser mug, wait a bit and drink. Resteep, drink again, etc. I can get half a dozen mugs of good tea out of that lot. This is the tea I go to when I want something sweet and easy to make. The balance of jasmine flavour to tea is just right. It is smooth and velvety, and is just what I want when I want something that does not require me to pay very close attention to it. Is that a bad thing? I don’t think so. There is more there if you do pay close attention to the tea, but you can get plenty from it without that. This is a staple tea for my cupboard.

I received this lovely tea from TeaEqualsBliss; I was really excited to try it since I am a jasmine pearl lover. I used 1 tsp of pearls per 8oz of water and steeped for about 3mins and then let cool for about 15mins before I enjoyed my cup. The jasmine flavoring was authentic tasting and sweet, the silver needles made for a very clean, yet very slightly grassy tasting tea. Very well done and I can’t wait to try a second cup blended with a peach white tea, I have a feeling that with be DELISH with these pearls!

I brewed three small pots of this between last night and this morning. The two pots I had last night were perfect. The flavor was light, and the grassiness had a sweet touch to it. The floral flavor was just right too, just enough to add to the overall flavor, but the tea didn’t taste overwhelmingly like flowers. This morning, all floral notes are gone, and the flavor of the tea is very flat. It’s more vegetal than sweet and grassy. I think this is mostly because of how I steeped the leaves. I put the leaves directly into the pot, so they probably steeped out sooner. I like watching the leaves unfold, so I really don’t want to use a filter basket, but maybe next time I’ll use a couple cups and pour out all the liquid between steepings. Overall, this was a huge improvement to steeping in my cast iron pot, which I think adds a bit of an edge to the lighter teas.

For this review I decided to brew this tea using a two-cup glass teapot. Canton Tea Co’s website suggests using 1 tsp of pearls per cup, which is difficult to estimate using pearls, so I believe I added about 35-40 of the small pearls to the teapot. Continuing to follow the directions, I steeped the pearls about three minutes, stopping to taste the tea after two minutes (the website had recommended 2-3 minutes). At two minutes, the taste really wasn’t very far developed, but I could already tell that this was one very sweet tea.
With the dry pearls, one could very much smell the jasmine, yet the scent was not overpowering, nor was it almost sickly-sweet, as some teas are that contain jasmine. The aroma of the brewed tea was even less bold and had an even softer nose, with only faint hints of jasmine.
Upon taking the first big sip, the tea flow smooth and thick across the tongue, and the fruity sweet taste of jasmine infiltrated my entire mouth. If a flower could be described as being delicious, this would be the epitome of such a description. The amount of jasmine is enough to lend great character to the tea, while not completely dominating it.
The website recommends steeping this for at least three separate infusions. I most certainly shall.
On my personal enjoyment scale, I rate this tea an 85/100.

Its All About The Leaf

Review by Jamie: “My favorite type of tea (thus far) is white tea, more specifically, silver needle, so I was crazy excited to try this one. The only thing that made me hesitate was the fact that it was jasmine flavored. I like the smell of Jasmine but I don’t like teas that taste like perfume…”

Love the scent of this tea, so deep and intoxicating yet “natural”, not overpowering, differently from other jasmine teas I’ve tried (maybe they were artificially scented, with hindsight). The aroma is “sparkling” in the nose like a cup of champagne!

The flavour is more delicate yet lively: sweet and floral, with soft spring honey notes, like fresh dew that has dripped onto jasmine petals.
The gentle vegetal note of the tea buds is still present in the background: jasmine scent doesn’t outclass it.
Then I found a surprisingly wild fennel note around the third infusion: so fresh, almost balsamic in the mouth.

I used a level teaspoon of pearls for about 150ml of water.

Definitely a tea to try :-)

If you want to bring to life a warm spring day and a walk through the orchard blossoms start brewing. The smell and the taste are the same for this sexy Jasmine tea. I brewed a tea spoon of pearls in 8 oz at 165 F for 3 minutes…again and again. It’s mild and looks mostly clear with a hint of green, but carries a raw floral naturalistic note to it. The taste summed up, your mouth settles in a warm bed of blossoms. I could dare say it may have been kissed by the fairies. I’m new to the world of tea but by far this is one of my favorites and is worthy enough to be in your collection and served to any princesses that cross your path.
