Raspberry Cream

Black Tea by 52teas

I was thinking, you always see teas fashioned after strawberries & cream, peaches & cream, even blueberries & cream, but why not raspberries & cream? So, of course, I had to make one. Here’s our premium black teas with real freeze-dried raspberries and organic flavors. And yes, it’s as delicious as it sounds. Hot or iced, it’s just nice.

Surprised this one doesn’t have any notes yet! I mean raspberry & cream, what is not to love. Dry the leaves remind me a lot of another tea, the smell is so familiar but I can’t place it. How bothersome! I think it might actually be Adagio’s Ripe for Romance, which is strange because that is raspberry and chocolate.

Anyway, this tea is scrumptious. I made it iced with some cream just to bump up the creamy notes, though I tried it first sans-cream and, yes, it’s very creamy! Not like vanilla, but a smoother and less sweet cream element. The raspberry is bright and fruity, one of the best raspberry flavored blends I’ve tried. That seems to be a finnicky flavor, but it’s perfect here!

On a side note, I totally spazzed and missed my 400th tasting note (which funnily enough was another 52teas blend, Genmaichai). The same thing happened to me with #300, I am terrible at keeping track of this stuff.. So I dub this my honorary 400th!

The powder room renos are coming along slowly but surely. I put the last coat of paint on the ceiling yesterday, and I was looking forward to getting that first coat onto the walls this morning (That first coat of color is always exciting to me), when I realized that my painting clothes were in the wash. I debated ruining another set of clothes (I inevitably get paint on myself) but I decided to wash my laundry and check out steepster in the meantime. :D

I could have sworn that I already posted a tealog for this? Hmmm….must have dreamt it. It’s just as well because it tastes even better now that I’ve left it to cure for a little longer. The raspberry flavor reminds me of a raspberry ice cream rather than a straight up raspberry. It’s smooth without any tartness, nor any of those annoying seeds that somehow lodge between my front teeth without my knowledge for like half a day…then I finally look in the mirror and do a double-take…and try to remember all the people who I’ve talked to since I ate raspberries…

Sorry…back to the tea! When I made this, I didn’t let the water hit the boiling point and I steeped it according to color (rather than time) as I find sometimes 52teas steep a little stronger and therefore require much less steep time. This is perfect in my books as it means more subsequent steeps. I have a feeling this will also make a lovely full-bodied iced tea…mmmm…it’s really delicious hot though.

Well, this is certainly successfully as a raspberry tea. The flavour in here is unmistakably raspberry – strong raspberry, at that. Almost candied raspberry or something, because it’s certainly not as tart as actual raspberries (I am thankful for this, however.) Sadly, I’m really not tasting any cream. Perhaps there’s a bit of softness to the raspberry flavour that wouldn’t be there otherwise, but I guess I was hoping for a more noticeable creaminess. I suppose I could achieve that myself with milk or something?

A 2-minute infusion kept the black base in check here, so it works fairly well. I think I prefer this with a black base over generic green sencha base, as well. Overall, I don’t really see the hype around this one, as to me it isn’t anything overly special, but it’s certainly not bad! Better than a few other blends I’ve tried recently.

Received my monthly tea package from Frank a few days ago and decided to try some out this morning. I think I’ll be mailing 3 of the 4 out without even tasting them first, but for one I don’t like any of the ingredients, for another I am pretty sure I won’t like it either, and the 3rd I’m allergic to. So there’s that. But then there is this tea.

The smell when you open the package is amazing. It smells so good! I need a candle with this smell so I can scent my whole room with it. I could sit here huffing this tea for a long time, but I won’t because that would be weird looking.

The smell dies down as it is brewed and the liquid tea has some smell, but the black tea in the smell is more prominent than the raspberry or cream now. And the taste, divine! Ah, this is raspberry and cream…or anything and cream really, done right. The raspberry flavour is definitely the ‘natural’ flavour it says on the package because it seriously does taste like an actual raspberry! A raspberry candy in my drink because I added sugar to bring out the taste and boy it did! The cream is creamy and I made it even more creamy by adding milk and I think this tea is really good with milk and sugar. It would probably be good iced as well, for those who like iced tea. I have never met an iced tea that I have liked so I tend to stay out of that. But anyway, this tea is really really good and I’m now off to Frank’s website to see if there are any left.

I know I just had this last week, but with a not-great tea tasting day so far (out of four, drank 2, liked 1) I wanted something that would actually bring a smile to my face and that I knew would taste good. Out of my teas at work, this one was right in front so in the pot it goes.

I think I underleafed this a bit. It’s definitely weaker than last time. Possibly also due to the fact that I dropped the temperature a bit to see what would happen. Definitely keeping it at boiling next time. And at least 4 tsp for 750 ml. 3 just didn’t do it for me. I think I used 4 last time.

Other than being pretty weak, this is still a good tea. Nicely flavoured and makes me happy-wiggle in my seat. I’m glad I have a few extra packs of this coming to me in the mail.

backlog from this morning

I had this as a tasty tasty cup to occupy my morning of craziness, though less crazy than the previous 4 days. :) I’m pretty good with the taste of this one – it’s not overly creamy but it does have a nice raspberry taste that fits in with the black base

Man! I haven’t had this one in ages! I pulled it out this morning because i didn’t have time to go through my swap box to find an “almost sipdown” tea. I have to say this is one of the few blends frank’s come out with recently that i really like. There’s enough of a raspberry cream like flavour here and none of that bitterness from the black base that some have found with other blends. This one’s a win in my books still!

Backlog from this afternoon. Trying to relax tonight a bit before my calls with China tonight. It’s been a busy week that is soooo nearly over. Still enjoying this one even without much “cream” in it.

Also mixed the last little bit of this with the last little bit of the other tea i’m about to log for some chocolate raspberry goodness!

Yum my 52 teas order arrived yesterday, so I am having this one as a latte this morning. It is quite delicious. Raspberry is one of my favorite flavours, and the creamy background that comes out when you steep it works really well. I wish this one wasn’t sold out :(

Considering how Frank is my go to online tea source, and my go to source for unique black teas that make amazing lattes, I don’t give him enough credit on steepster by providing amazing reviews of his products which I consume many times each week.

This morning I was looking for something to make an amazing latte out of to accompany my scone. I decided to reach for this tea because it is creamy, fruity, and I figured I’d go double raspberry because I always have raspberry jam. It did not disappoint! The thing I love about 52 Teas blends is that the fruit flavor is always so authentic and not artificial tasting. This one tastes like a sweet, crisp raspberry, with a touch of creaminess added. Like raspberries with a bit of ice cream on top. And who doesn’t love raspberries and ice cream? Definitely one of the best fruit blends I’ve encountered.

Another sample from Alphakitty!
Going to brew the rest of this one soon and write up proper notes. As of now I’d just be going off of memory (I was busy and didn’t write down any notes). For now, I will just say that I really enjoyed this one. May be my favorite 52teas so far. Sweet (just a tad of that raspberry tartness), creamy, and nicely balanced. The raspberry really stood out (and in a non artificial way, too!), which I was hoping for!

Finishing up this sample from Alphakitty. Yay for sipdowns!

The raspberry is nice and sweet/slightly tart (not artificial tasting – yay!), and the mouthfeel is creamy! The black base shines through in a subtle, smooth way and is slightly earthy. A nice dessert tea after lunch (cinnamon pancakes…my sister was nice and made some for me).

Enjoyed this – thanks again for sending this my way, Alphakitty!

This is the nicest flavoured black I’ve tried in a good long while. I wanted something different but still reassuring last night, and this is what I plumped for. The dry leaves smell wonderfully sweet, with hints of fresh raspberry and cream. I’ve been disappointed so many times by flavoured teas that smell amazing dry, and then don’t live up to the expectations they’ve raised when they’re brewed. Not so with this one. I will admit being a little concerned, because the scent brewed is predominantly of black tea, and not of raspberry. Oh man, though, the taste! The black base is detectable, of course, but it supports and rounds out the flavouring really well. Mostly, though, this tastes just like fresh raspberries and cream. There’s nothing artificial about it at all, and it somehow tastes really clear, not muted or overpowered or simply like muddied tea. Every sip is fruity, creamy deliciousness. Deciding to buy this was a close thing for me, because I find it hard to abide any kind of artificial cream taste (cf. my review of Adagio Cream). I’m glad I decided to pick up a bag of this one, though. Now I’ve tried it, it’s going to be hard to live without!

Sipdown! This had really been one of the best 52teas blends I’ve tried so far. It’s just divinely creamy, fruity deliciousness. I’m seriously regretting only getting one bag of this, because I know I’m really going to miss it now it’s gone. Great work, Frank!

1.5 tbsp for 375 ml

Mild raspberry flavour. Slight tartness makes the raspberry flavour more authentic. Little to no creaminess. Raspberry flavour balanced with black tea taste.

Thanks Scheherazade for sending this lovely tea :)

I’m a little wary of 52Teas black teas considering I haven’t been amazed by them, but this tea is quite delicious. The raspberry flavour is clear and the tartness is almost an afterthought. There’s also a definite creaminess to it. The raspberry flavour becomes even more evident as the tea cools.

Yum!

This is another 52teas blend that took me by surprise. When I first received this blend I was hesitant as I was expecting the typical artificial raspberry flavoring you often get with tea blends – but I should have known Frank has higher standards than most. The dry leaves have a delicate creamy scent which simply brings out the nice fresh raspberry in this blend. The raspberry is a nice tart natural flavor which is supported nicely by both the black tea base and cream-like notes in the background. I am a straight tea drinker and was surprised how lovely this tea was hot but even more impressed with the flavor profile when it was at room temperature/cold. I am not typically one to try black teas cold or cool but due to a combined hectic day at the office and a desperate end of day caffeine fix I decided to down the half cup of cold tea on my desk – and I have to admit this is one tea best enjoyed cold.

I love raspberries, and this is a really nice raspberry black tea. The taste in the cup isn’t as strong or punchy as the smell of raspberry in the dry leaves, but it’s still a nice gentle raspberry against the black tea background. I would have liked the raspberry to be stronger, which seems strange to me, since other folks here seem to be tasting it more than I can. Sigh. :-\

The black tea base was pleasantly not-bitter. I have trouble detecting “cream” flavouring in anything, it seems, so I’m not sure about how people taste that – maybe it comes across as a sort of mellowness. Anyway, overall it was a good mug of tea. Thanks to Starfevre for this!
I added sugar and skim milk.
