The smell of the dry leaf is divine. Unfortunately the brewed tea doesn’t quite live up to its smell.
The first steep I had was a bit disappointing. Very bland. I didn’t give up, though, as I know some oolongs are better with the second or third infusion. I could detect more of a creamy vanilla taste in the second cup, which made it much more enjoyable.
Not my favourite, but definitely drinkable. I think I may try it again with a lower water temp and see how that goes.
Preparation
I was in my local David’s Tea a couple of days ago (I walk past it twice a day on my way to work – talk about temptation)and picked up a few of the new spring teas. I passed on this one that day as the hibiscus and fruit scared me off. It smelled really good, though, so I ended up going in yesterday and buying some anyway. I’m so weak.
I steeped it for about 20 min(I got in the shower and forgot about it), but it didn’t hurt it at all. I actually really enjoyed the taste, both warm and later when it cooled. I can really detect the melon in with the mate. I’m surprised how well they work together. The hibiscus is really subtle, too, not overly tart the way it can be sometimes. I also liked the fact that it doesn’t need any sweetener added.
Overall, a surprisingly good blend.
Preparation
Funny story. The other night, my neighbour went streaking down the sidewalk, and out of nowhere, a cop showed up and stopped him. Impeccable timing.
I’ve prepared this tea two ways: hot and cold-brewed. Both are keeping me company while I try to get yet another paper out of the way.
The dry leaf is fruity to the tenth power, sweet, and tart. An in-your-face mango paired with a much more subtle pomegranate. If anyone here is into BPAL, it’s like Io in tea form.
This is better hot than what I originally anticipated. The mango and pomegranate are quite balanced here. The tea base is noticeable too but not overly so. No bitterness. I also appreciate that this doesn’t taste like five pounds of sugar has been infused into the tea. It has the same level of sweetness that dried fruit has.
Heavens to Murgatroyd, this is fantastic iced. Exquisite even! The mango overpowers the pomegranate here, but I don’t care. It works for me. I actually absentmindedly under-leafed (well, actually, overwatered?) since I didn’t have that much left, but filled up my jug all the way. I was worried it was going to be bland and overly diluted, but it’s awesome. A light honey liquor but still full of flavour. I’ll have to pick up more for iced tea purposes.
Ha, those damn cops! But we still need them…
Usually don’t care much for DT’s spring and summer collection but this one sounds great!
I’m quite sure he and his friends were drunk, and he looks to be in his early- to mid-20’s. Surprisingly not scarred for life!
My issue is most of the teas I have wouldn’t be that great iced, and the ones that are, I hoard because I can’t get them anymore haha.
Scent: mmmm… chocolate! Unlike other chocolate teas I’ve tried the scent doesn’t remind me of liquid candy. It does smell pretty sweet though… the best way I can describe it is thin mint girl scout cookies with a dash of maple syrup.
Flavour: wow… this is incredible! They managed to balance the chocolate and peppermint perfectly so neither would be overwhelming. The chocolate flavour is dark rather than sweet (yum!), and the mint complements it with a fresh, cool aftertaste. One of my problems with chocolate teas is that they tend to be sickeningly sweet but Read My Lips is an exception, props to whoever came up with this concoction!
I can see myself drinking this black tea year round, especially when I get a craving for sweets. Looks like my tea cupboard has a new long term resident… I’m stocking up on this one!
Preparation
I made this cold brewed…yummmmmmmm. This is such an excellent tea both hot AND cold. It’s super refreshing and coconutty. I want to drink this all summer. So. Good. See previous notes about it hot!
Oh, and I splurged a bit on tea today…I couldn’t resist, I’ve been eyeing them forever, so I got a 4 pack of the Sloane teas!! EG Classic, Heavenly Cream, Peaches and Cream and Rouge Provence. So excited!
Backlog – this was the cup I had with dinner, a new recipe the boyfriend found, shrimp with a tequila and sour cream sauce. I was a bit sceptical of the tequila in the sauce, but it was delicious! I wanted a tropical tea to go with dinner, and this one fit the bill, although I steeped it 5 minutes instead of the usual 4 so it was a bit strong. Still yum though, I love this tea. See previous notes :)
Preparation
Have I mentioned how delicious this tea is?? If not, well, it is really delicious!! The tart lemon, mild ginger spice, and creamy coconut aftertaste are just superb in this tea. I hope this sticks around for a while. I have been drinking from my 50 g bag, but I will eventually need a tin of this I think. In my opinion, this far outdoes the whole Spring collection of DavidsTea. So far this year, there’s been 2 ginger teas of the month, and I have loved both of them. I hope this is a continuing trend, maybe not with ginger, but with loving the teas! See previous notes :)
ETA – So this is the first time I’ve done this haha, but I actually ate something out of the infuser. This giant piece of coconut was just sitting there, calling out to me…munch. It was infused with lemon and sooo yummmy. I need to eat out of the infuser more often!
Preparation
Yes indeed! And some white tea somewhere but to me it’s mostly creamy lemony yum! The ginger is not overly strong, but it’s still good, might also all be at the bottom of my bag haha
MissLena we are totally on the same page! I think this one is better than anything in the spring collection as well. I know I am getting some gift cards for my BDay so I want to get a full tin. I’m out at the moment and patiently waiting.
Awesome! I love this stuff, it is a bit more expensive but I will finish off this bag and then probably get a tin :D my bday already passed so I will just have to get it lol
Yay! Picked up the spring collection except for copabanana and daydreamer, and i got a few other teas as well, such as this one. The smell was soooo good i splurged on 50 g without even trying the tea lol. It smells like lemon meringue pie and coconut cream pie combined to me :D
I’m trying to go easy on caffeine as it’s the day before my midterm (again) so I decided to try this one. The steeped smell is very good, I get a bit of the ginger with the lemony coconut. I steeped for 4 mins at 185 degrees.
Now this is a coconut tea i quite like. Cocomint cream was too heavy and sugared for me, but this is awesome! The citrus and ginger balance the coconut perfectly with tangy and sweet. The blend is not as strong in ginger, but that could be because there weren’t many pieces in the spoonful. I’m not sure where the white tea flavor is, but I think it’s providing a nice base for these flavors. I might try steeping the full 5 minutes next time to bring out the ginger a bit more. This is sweet yet refreshing. I also can’t eat much thai food due to the prevalence of peanuts in it, so this is a nice flavor and it seems like I’m having something thai – related! Yay I like this tea :)
ETA – this tea is a bit heavy once it cools, i think it’s more that I find coconut so sweet and rich that I can’t have it too often. This is still delicious, but I will drink in moderation. Oh, and i bet this is unreal iced. Will definitely have to try it hehe.
Preparation
I love this one too! I like all the new flavors, but this and coconut oolong are my favs I think. Honeydew Mate is amazing iced as well.
I’m so excited to try them! Haha I quite enjoy coconut as long as it’s fairly light :) I want it to be summer so it is actually warm enough to make iced tea and not be too cold drinking it lol :D
this is the only spring tea i’ve bought and i did it cuz i KNEW i’d love it. and i do. love love love. that’s all i can say. love.
Haha awesome. Yeah I saw the ingredients and kind of just swooned. Smelled it and was like yep, i’m getting this, lots of this. And now I want another cup haha will have to have one :)
Agreed! I’m making a second cup right now, but with new leaves, i had a boring cup in between haha oh dear I will probably have to spring for a tin of this..
Yum! Although there is nothing AmAZiNg!!! about this tea, I really liked it. It smelled delicious when I was lucky enough to a Davids store in Calgary yesterday, the sales gal said people even put this in their granola and I can see it.
It smells like oatmeal cookies, you can tell even from the smell that it will be sweet. The smell is relaxing and comforting. I let it steep over 8 mins and it just kept tasting better. It will probably be one we keep around although like I said there isn’t a huge wow factor – just a really good tisane.
I would recommend this tea to anyone who likes mild herbal teas or cinnamon baked goods. Or anyone who forgets and leaves their teas steeping a longer time than they intended – with this one it wouldn’t matter!
Preparation
If I had smelled this tea in the store, I never would have bought it. As it is, after ordering it online it has sat in my cupboard for well over a month (an extreme rarity) due to smelling more like oregano than kiwi. Maybe I do not have such a refined nose or tea smelling palate but I know what I like. I must have felt “adventuresome” this morning and made a mug. It smelled great steeping and I knew I would like it right away (and silently kicked myself for not trying it earlier :)
There definitely isn’t a strong green taste but that isn’t a bad thing, just a taste preference. Since I steeped/drank it from my french press style mug I expected it to get bitter in the last little bit but it didn’t. A very surprising cup of tea but I enjoyed it throughly. I am not sure I will buy it regularly but maybe in the summer time I would get some to make ice teas with (even though I found it tasty hot). I may brew it longer next time for a stronger taste, there is room for experimenting. I don’t know if I tasted it without knowing the name that I would think “oh, that’s kiwi tea” but I do see how the flavours work together kind of like the sweet/tartness of a kiwi.
I’d recommend it to anyone who likes fruity teas, lighter green teas or if you were looking to try something different. And will tell my sister about it later, I am sure she would enjoy.
I am pretty excited to have found steepster. Its funny this tea, one I have put off for so long, would be my first taste note or posting at all on this site. Thanks for reading! :)
Preparation
Pu’erh teas don’t really do it for me, but I also don’t dislike them. I’m quite indifferent, I think. I’ll drink it, especially when it is citrus-y and flavorful like this one. I love how the citrus works with the earthiness of the tea, probably from the licorice root? I don’t know. It’s a very nice blend.
The second steep is considerably better than the first, as well. Much tastier.
Preparation
Wow, interesting. I knew this was better cold than hot. I’ve hot brewed and then tossed in the fridge before. Last night I put 3 tsp of this tea and 3 tsp of cherry tisane (Wild Cherry – Teaopia) and 4 cups of water in the fridge to steep. I left it there for about 18 hours, and what I got is something between cream soda and cherry Kool-Aid. I think I overdid the cherry it’s almost drowned out the “cola” but I still get the “chemical” taste that makes it seem like soda. I can drink this, it’s not GREAT, but getting close to good.
I changed my rating from 1 to 36. I still think this is really nasty on it’s own, but I’m going to keep tweeking the cold brewing and see if I can find the right ratio.
I bought this tea when it came out and I loved it at first! Then I wanted more and they were always out of stock. Fortunately, I found some at a David’s shop near my house. Now, everytime I’ having this tea, I’m wondering why I wanted it so badly. It’s good, I still drink it, but honestly, I’m still searching for the orange and chocolate tastes. It doesn’t taste what it smells. But you can also don’t care about this fact and just enjoy the tea as it is.
