La La Lemon (organic)

Black Tea by DAVIDsTEA

David was in L.A. when he had his lemon-black-tea revelation. It was early in the morning, the sun was bright, the joggers beautiful. He took a sip of a citrusy black tea and dreamed of starting a tea shop all his own. A place where you could find the smoothest, most citrusy organic black tea on earth – with lemon oil, orange oil and real bits of zest. (Truly, La La Lemon makes anything seem possible).

I brewed up a bunch of this one to chill in the fridge, and did a second infusion with the leftover leaves to drink now. This is a surprisingly tasty tea – the lemon flavour is very lemon candy, not lemon peel or lemon verbena or lemongrass, and the black base is fairly typical of DT, decent and not particularly astringent. Quite refreshing! I’m excited to try it iced.

ETA: Yum!!! This one is super delicious iced and sweetened. It tastes very much to me like Nestea lemon iced tea. I sweetened it with maple syrup as that’s all that I had at the time, and the boy thought it tasted funny and didn’t like it (I’m trying to find something that he will like… sigh). I think I’ll ice the rest as well and sweeten it with sugar instead… see if he’ll drink that!

ETA: This tea has some serious longevity! Second re-steep, in about 4 oz. water (so 1/4 strength) was quite delicious. I think I’ll try for a fourth infusion. Really hoping I remember to make some up this up (with sugar) for the boy tomorrow…

I wanted to try this, so I asked for a sample. I didn’t see the reviews beforehand, but figured I’d cold brew it only. I wanted to try it out solely for iced tea anyway. I was going with the quick iced tea room temp brewing method here since the leaves are so chopped up I figured it wouldn’t take too long. Instead, I took a 2 1/2 hour nap, so it turned out very well.

To me, it tastes like something I expect to get out of a soda machine, like in a can. The lemon is just a bit strong so it seems like that Lipton stuff. That’s not really a bad thing, because it’s not sweetened to death so it’s actually enjoyable. But I’d think if you don’t like lemon, this is not a tea for you…well, clearly.

I’m going to have to actually cold brew it overnight to see if that might help pull more of the base tea’s flavor out, if it has any more in it.

So on a DavidsTea run today to pick up some of the new tins, I asked for a cup of something lemony to cut through the mucus from the bronchitis my mother in law so generously shared with me. I had a cut of Bravissimo going, but while that was tasty and soothing indeed, it was kind of adding to the problem. When I got there, I asked for something lemony, and I was offered this and three lemon green. I went for this, as I kinda needed a caffeine boost too. It was a really, really shitty morning. Almost a “walk out on my job and tell them to stuff it” morning.

Anyway. I let it steep too long (boo) and I had honey instead of my usual sugar. Still, it was soothing and helped restore my voice, so yay for that. Still, I don’t think it’s one I’d reach for again.

Dear La La Lemon,
Why do I always overlook you? Your lovely rich black base, and vibrant citrus punch is SO refreshing, even hot on a cold day, and was just what the doctor ordered to end and awful week! Even the vaulting pony wanted to share you with me (but since you were merely a cup to go, I didn’t feel like sharing).
Please jump off the wall at me more often, so I remember to add you to my continuously growing collection!

The boyfriend and I each got a travel glass of this in store yesterday for their Earth Day promotion. I was excited that one of the options was a tea I hadn’t tried.

I wasn’t a fan, but it seemed like this was substantially over-steeped. It was incredibly dark and tasted very bitter. The boyfriend quickly noted like others here that this tastes more of lemon peel than lemon fruit. For me it was more like a really bitter cup of black tea that had a lemon candy dropped into it.

So, while this was probably the fault of the brewing conditions, I’m not sure if I’ll try it again. It would probably be perfect for iced tea, but I might prefer just to add my own lemon.

This is a fantastic lemon tea. The lemon is definitely present but not overpowering, and almost tastes like lemonade (but not quite). I might try it iced as well. I would recommend on steeping the full six minutes, the shorter side tends to make this tea a little bland.

I steeped the tea towards the lower end of the recommended steeping range but four minutes is still a bit too much as the base is pretty astringent and bitter. I think with a bit of tweaking this could be a good tea though. I like the bright lemony notes and I bet this would make a good iced tea as well – a good change from the sugary Lipton bottled lemon iced tea. We’ll see, I guess.

I’ve had repeated failiures at getting a good iced tea out of this blend. Finally with the last little bit I had left I think I’ve suceeded in making it somewhat decent.

The recipe I used was 8 tsp of tea in two cups boiling water, steeped for 5 minutes. Then I strained it and poured it over some ice in a 2L jug to quickly halt the steeping process, and topped up the jug with cold tap water. I sweetened it with about 1.5 tblsp of agave nectar.

There’s still a tannic astringency that I can’t get rid of no matter how I steep this tea. I think it might be a character of the tea base itself rather than the steeping process. I wish that they’d chosen to use a different black tea because the lemon flavour seems to only exacerbate the astringency.

So in summary, this works in a pince for iced tea, but I’ve had better and I didn’t care for it hot either. I don’t think I would buy this tea again.

pretty good
im not a massive fan of black teas but this one was fairly good
it had a little bit of agave in it and that really helped bring out the lemony notes
in all a good tea

yet another tea I’m glad to have tried, but will never purchase again. It was oddly enchanting yet dissatisfying all at once. Some sips were overbearing in bitterness and lemon, whereas others were lemony perfection. The difference, I think, was that at times it was rind-like, and others, lemon-juice like… with my preference for the latter.
Moreover, I would have surely enjoyed this more with a dash of sugar, but it was far too hot for a sample sip before leaving the store.
Oh and this doesn’t go well with milk, right? well, I enjoy my tea with milk! points taken off for that…
bah! This was followed up with a Ten Rens tea so it was not a total tea failure!

Ha!! So I have tried this before. Too funny. This was a to go cup in the store.
I quite enjoyed my it this time, was very lemony and smooth, in a good way. Not sure I’d want some for the house as I’d only ever want a cup every few months or so but it’d certainly be interesting to try iced, as was recommended to me in my last note, and by the girl at the cash.

I met up with Raritea today, and we attended the grand opening of Cha, they had treats and tea cocktails, and of course… free tea! It was alot of fun, I wish it was an annual event :)
So Cha is a monthly subscription where you take a quiz and based on the results you get a monthly tea set. Great for people who are just starting out and have no idea what they like. I’d recommend it. AND they are affiliated with a clean water charity.

This is my second try at La La Lemon. The first time my boyfriend got it as a to go, I couldn’t taste any lemon at all and thought it was a dud tea.

I finally picked it up again because a friend of mine bought some for herself and her mom and they both loved it. I figured maybe I just didn’t have enough citrus pieces the first time. Anyway, I decided to give it another go and wow! The lemon is picked up a lot better this time and this is probably one of the first black teas that I really enjoy.

Because the black tea leaves are Black Yunnan, it’s lighter in taste and I don’t get a huge bitter taste like I do with most teas because they use regular China black tea.

I might go back to pick up a tin!

Tina S.

The package instructions say steep this for 4-6 minutes. Well I went with four, and I think that was still too long. There were hints of lemon here, but it was overpowered by the astringency of the black tea. It wasn’t a horrid cup, but it definitely wasn’t the lemon black I expected. Before I rate this one I’m going to try it again with a shorter steep time. There is still hope for this one.

The first time I drank was a couple of weeks ago and I way over steeped it. It tasted good just too strong. The second time I steeped it just right and it was delicious! I took this one to work for my lemon tea and everytime I make it at work it is too bitter. The first time was almost undrinkable, the second time slightly less bitter and the third time just alittle bitter. I think my work kettle makes the water hotter than my home kettle because I stop them at what seems to be the same time frame but my work one makes it bitter. I just keep stopping the kettle earlier and earlier until I get it just right.

Honestly I can not wait for summer to come so I can ice it, I am told it taste just like Lipton Ice Tea which I love!

This was a new buy today (one of 6, gah!). We accidentally over-steeped it so for now it’s just okay, but I think it has great potential. Definitely lemon (of the tart kind! More like lemon rinds..) but there is tea underneath it.

I know I just logged this a week ago but I wanted to share with the tea drinking world in case any packrats have some of this bad boy left. Steep it in a T-Sac. I realized today that there is just too much broken “leaf” in this one to do well in my infuser and prepared it in a T-Sac instead. If only I had thought of this a year ago..

I will be honest though and warn you that using the T Sac really mutes the lemon flavour. I’m okay with that though, as the bitterness from the black tea and the lemon rind aspect were just too much for me. This way I get a lightly sweet lightly lemon flavoured black tea. Kind of blah but much better than bitter! I’m adjusting the rating back up a bit because it is redeemable but a lot of work.

I’ve been trying to make this tasting note since yesterday (and this tea for a year!) – the Steepster Gods have not been kind to me. Anyway, I have some of this still from a year ago, though I wish I didn’t. I sent the beau off with the tin to drink at work and I am trying to use what’s left in the bag at mine. This was purchased before I realized that you could buy less than 100 grams of something, so I’ve got an awful lot of it.

Remembering that this is a bitter tea, I steeped it for only a minute in less than boiling water and even threw in a bit of sugar (maybe 1/8 teaspoon) in advance because I am at switchboard and away from the kitchens. Under these conditions, it was tolerable but too sweet so I put the leaves back in for 30 seconds or so. Unfortunately, a tonne of loose “leaves” (aka powder) fell into the tea from my fine infuser while I was doing that, even though I shook out the infuser vigorously – I forgot to mention but this is one seriously broken up tea. I assume that is what contributes to it’s bitterness.

Anyway, after the extra steeping it was bitter. Too bitter to drink. I threw out yet another mug of this blasted tea which I have never managed to make well. Even low temps, less leaf, adding sugar, shaking the powder out and short steeping times aren’t enough to redeem this bad boy. Rating seriously decreased because I know better now!

Mehhh. I think 3 minutes might have been a bit too long of a steep for this one. I don’t get very much lemon from this, it’s mostly the black tea. It’s actually alllllmost like an earl grey. I think it has potential. I’m gonna try a short steep next time and maybe a tiny bit of honey or agave.

sometimes i want something fruity, but not too light, yet something cozy and warming, but not too heavy.
black tea with lemon! this is the perfect balance for me. plus, i am a fanatic of anything citrus flavoured/scented, so it was an instant winner.
one of my absolute favourites.

Had this tea iced last night. My husband is not a tea fan. He will tolerate it but mostly because he is too lazy to make himself coffee and I am making tea at night. (he will make his coffee in the morning) He does however love Nestea Iced Tea. It is what he drinks all summer (except beer after ball of course)

I used twice the amount of tea as per David’s directions and poured the tea over ice. Then once it had cooled a little I added 1/3 lemonade to 2/3 tea. I also added some simple syrup to hubbies. When he drank it he said it was better than the Nestea he loves and he looks forward to drinking it all summer. i also really enjoyed it.

Now I just need an iced tea pitcher so I can make it without using so many tea leaves.

Just had to add that tonight I am really enjoying this iced with a shot of Raspberry Lemonade. Soooooo good.

Picked up some of this last night due to how much I have been enjoying other lemon themed teas from Davids. I tried it first with my dinner as a flash iced tea, I used 5 tsp of tea in about 8oz of water and it was honestly some of the weakest tasting iced tea I have had, especially for how lemony this tea smells. Being the optimist I am I tried it again later in the night as a warm cup of tea, and while I could taste the lemon in it better then I could with it iced. It was similar to what other people have said, its almost like cough drop lemon. Not sure if this is one that I will be grabbing again it wasn’t horrible but not really what I was expecting either.

First let me start with this disclaimer: (1) I am new to the world of loose teas (thank you DAVIDsTEA in Quebec City!) and (2) I like black tea and lemon together.

With that said, of the handful of different teas I have tried thus far, this is definitely my favorite. No sweetener required (though a bit of honey or agave is great too). Perhaps this isn’t the most “exciting” tea ever, but I think I’ll always have some around at my house.

Today after breaking up fights with the kids, cleaning up the dumped plate the cat knocked of the counter and making sure all the pets where fed, I sat down with my first cup of tea. Today I decided that first cup was going to be La La Lemon black tea by David’sTea.

The first thing you will notice when you drink this tea is there is a very good punch of lemon, which should not surprise you, after all it is called La La Lemon for a reason. With my usual milk and sugar it seems to give it almost a dessert like taste with out being over sweet. Keep in mind that I use 2 tsp of sugar in about 500 (ish) ml of tea.

The black tea is some what over powered by the lemon and surprisingly with the amount of orange in this tea you hardly taste any of it at all. Some would say that since it is a black tea you would think you’d get a strong black tea taste but in my opinion I think it works perfectly as it is.

The only down side I have found is that 1.25 tsp is enough for a small cup of tea, for my travel which holds 8 fl oz needs about 2 tsp worth the tea to get the same flavour, but really that calling it a down side is a bit of an over statement.

The feelings I get drinking this tea on our cold winter months is one of summer, sitting with family enjoying a cup of lemonade while the kids and family play in the sprinklers while the sun beats down on me. A rather nice feeling when the weather is so cold.

I would highly suggest this tea if you are a lemon fan. I do caution that if you add to much sugar you will get a sweet lemon candy effect, so limit the amount of sugar or sweetener of your choice when drinking this. Further more I will be trying this later with honey, I think the two flavours would worth very well together.

I walked into David’s Tea and just decided to go with it, mostly to compare it to the beloved Earl of Lemon. The tastes are both similar with lemon, but they both take on different aspects of lemon flavour. While Earl of Lemon is more sweet and tasting like a pie, La La Lemon gives me a soothing and more rustic taste. It’s really nice to drink on a cold day such as today.

La la lemon, I’m noticing today has a nice strength about it tea-wise. I don’t know how to put it, but this tea is just strong and soothing all at the same time. I love the aroma of this tea. There’s something about a good smelling black tea with a hint of lemon that just says yummm.
