From Lupicia

COOKIE is a sweet-scented black tea inspired by caramel cookies hot out of the oven. Finely-chopped almonds are blended to add extra flavor. It may sound sweet, but the flavor is delightfully light. Its natural sweetness becomes more prominent with added milk.

How to brew this tea
One 150ml (5.0 fl oz) cup
Infusion: 1-2 cups

Amount of tea leaves: 2.5 – 3g (0.10oz)
Water temperature: Boiling water
Brewing time: 2 – 2.5 minutes

This tea came from the GCTT and it’s in sachet form.

I took of sip of this plain and even with the short steeping time I still found it too strong with a vague burnt caramel flavour. But then I added some skim milk to my mug and that smoothed out the bitterness and gave the tea a biscuity undertone. Then, even though I don’t often sweeten my teas, I added about half a tsp of brown sugar (I was cooking at the time – Thai food, yum). That’s the ticket as it turns out, and the flavour turned into something that reminded me of those cookies that have bits of toffee baked into them. So ultimately quite tasty but the trick is apparently the additives.

Ah, yeah, I almost never add sugar to my tea so it’s kind of too bad that you sometimes have to do that in order to optimize the tea.

I think I was expecting something more light and sugar cookie-like, but this is deep, dark and incredibly rich. Notes of almond, hazelnut, coffee, cake and molasses make me feel like I’m drinking a rich, heavy dessert.

I’m not super fond of the coffee note, but over all this is an impressive dessert tea. Not something I could drink often, but very good.

The tea budget is limited right now, but Lupicia was having a free-shipping-on-any-order-sale, and I couldn’t resist the chance to try something by them.

The dry mix looks like a combination of long whole leaf, CTC, and little bits of nut. It smells like amaretto with a hint of biscotti. Given the sweet aroma, I was surprised, when I first sipped it, at how bitter it was. A roasted chicory kind of bitterness. It should be noted that Lupicia recommends adding milk to this, as it does have all the heft of an Irish breakfast. I can’t stand milk in tea, but I did add a spoonful of sugar, and that smoothed everything out beautifully. Suddenly it tasted like almonds and sugar cookies.

I’m really pleased with this one because it seems like when it comes to most flavored tea, either the base is weak or the flavoring is. This one has both a punchy base and strong flavoring notes. A great tea to wake up with. Definitely looking forward to trying more Lupicia teas. Does anyone have any favorites?

Fed ex came at 10 am, which is possibly a record. Usually they bring our packages around 4 pm. Both of us were excited to see them today. Me since I had Lupicia coming, and my husband because he ordered a bunch of new board games.

It’s yucky and cold today, one of the first days that absolutely feels like fall. So I tore right into that package and pulled out Cookie. For some reason I had it in my head that this would be similar to Brioche, but I was really wrong.

The leaf smelled a lot like coffee. Uh oh. Wasn’t expecting that. Brewed, still coffee, and a very dark caramel. This is definitely roasty. At first I wasn’t in love with it at all, but I like it more as the cup progresses, and as it cools more. It’s actually not too bad. Next time I think I will try it with some milk though.

Sil

YAY board games!

Marzipan

The conversation went like this.
Him: I have $178 of board games I’m going to order.
Me: OK.
But what I was thinking is, “Since you don’t tell me not to order tea, order what you want!”

Sil

yeah..thankfully we have a great game store with good pricing down the street from us, so i just walk down when the mood strikes lol

Marzipan

He gets his from Coolstuff, they have some sort of deal with a progressive discount and he says they are cheaper there.

Tealizzy

This one is definitely yummy with milk. :)

I’ve been so curious about this one! Thank you Ost for letting me try it!

So, let me start by saying I’m drinking this straight, no milk or sugar here. It is VERY roasty. Almost to the point that it reminds me of coffee. There is some subtle caramel or burnt sugar flavor, too. I actually like this quite a bit, but I’m not sure if I’ll choose to order any if I ever make a Lupicia order. There seem to be other teas that fit this category for me. (American Tea Room’s Brioche, I’m looking at you.)

boychik

Agree w/coffee notes. I added tiny bit of MS and I think I prefer it unsweetened .

One of the samples I took out of the GCTTB when I had it. The tea, both dry and brewed, actually smells like cookies! This is a rich black tea with hints of sweetness like molasses, and a nutty kind of flavor, and it even looks like there’s bits of nuts in them.

Finishing this one off as a milk tea!

This is a well-loved tea from Lupicia, but it’s just never been one of my favorites for some reason. But when I was thinking of which flavored teas to try for milk tea, CTC came to mind, and then this tea. I used about 4 teaspoons of tea in 4 ounces of hot water and then added 8 ounces of milk and some sweetener.

Glorious nutty cookie milk tea! The cookie flavor totally comes through, along with the chestnut-like nuts and a bit of caramel. Yum! What a lovely way to send off a rather old tea.

I always feel like I’m going to love this one more than I do!

Cameron B.

I’m with you, I think this one really needs milk to shine, which they do recommend in the description.

Lexie Aleah

Ooh I should try this one as a milk tea I didn’t love it either.

Sil

i only ever drink this one as a latte. Otherwise no thanks.

Kittenna

Yum yum. I’m not sure I’ve ever had this with milk, hmm. But this reminds me that I should try it!

Personally I feel like White Christmas is sort of a better version of this tea. And I had it last night as a milk tea, also scrumptious!

This tea smells caramel-like when dry, and there is a somewhat caramel flavour there steeped too. Caramel, yet cookie. I’ve had to finangle with all the steeping parameters to finally get a cup I’m nearly fully enjoying though.

This cup had 2.8g of dry tea/14 oz. of just under boiling water. Not actually 205 degrees, I only waited a few moments until the majority of steam was gone from the open kettle. Then a quick steep of 2.5 minutes.

I’m finding I want just a little bit more of something. Maybe adding milk would bring something out, though I’m not one for adding milk. Maybe my next cup I’ll be brave enough.

The nice people at Lupicia gave me this sample to try when I visited last week. It smells really nice, kinda like a snickerdoodle. There is a flavour of cookie as well- sweet, buttery, and a bit of spice. This tea makes want to bake and/or get more.

Flavors: Butter, Cookie, Spices, Sweet

Dustin

I love this tea!

Lariel of Lórien

It’s good, but might be even better in a different season.
